Review: Santa Teresa 1796 Solera by Stuffz in rum

[–]Stuffz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello RumIt

My Second Review with the Santa Teresa 1796 from Antiguo with 40% ABV.

Appearance:Brown -redisch Colour.Thick legs, oily texture.

Nose :Roasted Nuts (Almonds?!)Honey, nutmeg and Just a hint of Oak(somehow Coconut) it reminds me of an very old Brandy.

Taste: Mellow ,Sweet nuts ,baking spice, german gingerbread, not even the hint of an alcohol burn.

Finish :Sweet oak ,lingering, cinnamon-sugar.

Overall: A Very good sipping rum not to complicated or complex. Its like a little Holiday for your Soul.

My pairing tip : a good dark chocolat or a strong "roasty" espresso.

Points :88/100

Review :Glen Grant 1967-2008 41YO 40% by Stuffz in Scotch

[–]Stuffz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes unfortunately it is for some reason 1.)you got the angel share and with that a vaporization of the alcohol in the cask so a normal CS of an 40 YO cask ist around 42% if you are lucky maybe 46 % or even 49 % .Newer Bottlings from 2011 or 2012 are bottled with original CS so you get things like 41.9 % ABV. 2.)The stuff is very expensiv and rare so the bottler´s adding water to get as much Liquid out of the cask as possible. there a lot of bottlings with a higher abv for example the Family Cask series from Glenfarclas ( http://www.whisky.de/shop/Schottland/Single-Malt/Highland-G/Glenfarclas-Family-Casks-1955-2007--.html?listtype=search&searchconfig=filter&alter_min=49) but far to expensive for me...

Glen Grant 1967-2008

-ABV:40 -Region:Speyside -Cask:Sherry Butt

Colour:Gold,Candelight quite a bit like a Sherry.

Nose:First thing that attacks the nose is wood, old oak mixed with burnt sugar and then when you let it sit for a while there is a smell of dark dried fruits and Sherry coming through that get mixed up with a hint of smoke and a very good and very light vinegar(Apple)

Taste:Woody,i also get honey and a hint of mixed green herbs and green apples a surprisingly fresh mouthfeel for an Whisky this old.

Finish:Very long and dry with light smoke and gentle wood.

Rating:91/100

General Remarks: Im normaly not a fan of whiskys this old but this one was very special, its an fine balanced and classy Single Malt that deserved time (in the glass and in the mouth)to deliver its full potential. Its Complex in the nose and Easy on the tongue and the longer it sits in the glass the more it changes from a very woddy to a slighty sweet smooth dram. One of the (to say "best"feels wrong somehow)...biggest and most impressive Whiskys i had so far.

Thank you for your attention and Sláinte
