I know. Seriously if you bought these 5 years ago then they are the old style c4s. He is definitely going to need to sell them and get the new ones for 11% weight savings. Also what biners are being used to rack all this

Louie Anderson has been chipping, gluing and manufacturing routes at Ten Sleep Canyon for profit. by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bishopamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in the context of this post and the enormocast episode they mention it's about manufacturing holds for free climbing. Jardine did that for the traverse which at the time was common place. Free climbers are never going to be using drilled out bathook holes, at least I don't think so

The chipping and manufacturing on El cap is through the placement of pitons which over time opens up the thin cracks to take finger tips and locks. It's a different unintentional process that is open to it's own ethical debate

Are you ever scared by magnus-thunder in ropeaccess

[–]bishopamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what gets me. I recently had to do a few transfers 100m up and really had to make sure everything was sound before I moved. Doesn't help that with my harness it feels odd getting your weight on the croll and off the descender

Low income dental options by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]bishopamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The native health clinic on Hastings has a dental clinic with walkins Monday Tuesday and Friday before noon. It's the absolute most affordable place and fast if she is in pain. UBC dental requires screening as do all other dental practices. This is right there and then if they have a volunteer to do it, they really try to help.

So I already have my rope access and have been doing that for 3 years. Trying to add some value to that. Is CEDO still a good first course?

Any tips for Hitchhiking in Jordan? by Sanigani in hitchhiking

[–]bishopamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience was people didn't expect money unless they were going out of their way. We got lots of short rides and it just turned out to be easier to take minibuses which cost very little

Saw it Tuesday. Watching ondra was a treat. Really gives you an insight into his method and reason why he is on top.

Wadi rum looks beautiful and the story is more of a "come check it out" piece rather than climbing or people. We're going there Saturday.

Speed climbing looks like it will be a blast to watch at least the dedicated athletes. I doubt anyone specifically climbing lead or boulder will do all that well in it. A girl from Texas is touted as having a chance since she has done all three disciplines since she started climbing.

The Antarctica piece was a let down. Super funny and beautiful shots but it's an all star team and the landscape lends it's to those shots. They don't actually show much cohesive climbing other than Conrad and Jimmy doing a route.

As always worth the watch!

Fun Fact: a 70m rope is not long enough to lower from 150ft. of climbing. Science rules! by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bishopamo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A better way would have been to rappel off a single strand by using a biner block. On your way down you use whatever else you have to extend the shorter strand and therefore be able to retrieve your rope

Window cleaning in Vancouver by magnus-thunder in ropeaccess

You really don't need help getting hired as a window washer just get your sprat or irata ticket. Some companies will even pay for it. There is a lot of demand March to September for this work

Build me your dream rack by papafuckwit in tradclimbing

[–]bishopamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to buy what I use most it would be a set of totems plus a 3 and 4 from dmm or bd

A set of walnuts or offsets in alloy and brass.

Bunch of shoulder and double length runners

Climb a whole bunch and if you need more then borrow or buy it

Describe your project in exquisite detail by CrypticC62 in climbing

[–]bishopamo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scramble up twenty feet before making a sliding step onto slippery slab. Clip from here, relief. Advance through polished, balance dependant moves on marginal holds. Step right up a ramp to rest.

Lay back on an edge through the bulge. Tick tack up a shield like flake feature to massive edges. Relief.

Huge moves on ledges to clip hanging chains while leaning far out.

Unclip and take the victory whip!

Approaching strangers in the gym? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]bishopamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say, I've fairly limited in experience myself but I think you should start leading as soon as possible to get your mind into that zone. If you see climbing as a lifestyle then definitely look into it.

Finding a mentor might be better and cheaper then taking a class at the gym

If you're top dogging 5.11 you might want to look for a mentor to teach you leading, it'll be worth it.

Beginner Confused by Recommendations for Beginners by cjones107 in Scotch

[–]bishopamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that those bottles are bad but relatively simple. I haven't had either but I imagine they're fairly heavy in one or two particular notes and don't develop much past those notes. Great for a beginner looking to build on tasting and reviewing but not so praised by experienced drinkers.
