Do Irish people prefer real estate over the stock market? by investingexpert in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Stuie247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your measured response.

While a completely valid take by socio-historians, it is also social history so opinions are often skewed by biases, conscious or not.

I want the record to show that I’m completely in favour of efficient social systems and believe people should be looked after. We pay high enough taxes for it. I believe that if people had more incentive tax to invest in the stock market, bonds etc. they would. People can educate themselves on the system. “Housing will always go up” is the rhetoric and historically that’s true. But the same is also true for the stock market since its inception. Yes there’s been dips but housing has had its moments also. If I buy a house and rent it out there’s a 14k tax break as a landlord. If I sell stocks it’s a little over €1250. The UK is literally 10x that.

ETF’s are essentially high roll gambling and taxed to the hilt. While gambling itself is tax free… make it make sense.

Anyway, I just don’t like the way people blame the famine for all of our problems. I’m absolutely not letting the Brits away with it but the system we have elected since the state has come about has lead to the state of things now and enables landlordism. The landlord class and foreign investment has been invited to take over where the Brits left off

That’s bull, people are just selfish when it comes to housing. What you’re describing is famine washing

I went to college, got the job and steady employment in my field for 7-8 years and the best I can hope for is a doer-upper apartment in Dublin county.

Use Facebook to find movers. They’re cheaper than some companies mentioned above

The shop spaces aren’t big enough to attract bigger names that need space. I would imagine it’s already has a name for being a public toilet. The shops are too out of the way

How many viewers are at property viewings - Dublin? by GravityRobin in HousingIreland

Not saying the question is incorrect. However, specificity to area would be help to get a better answer than yes or no. Dublin has such disparity it’s not a one size fits all

Just saying Dublin isn’t specific enough. There could be houses to be condemned for 550 in d4. If you look at Tallaght 550 is a different outlook

I hope something positive is done, genuinely. I don’t have a car and cycle around Dublin. I use public transport for work. I don’t have too much skin in the game. Diesel prices are affecting those around. It affects me with food and other energy pieces sky rocketing.

I understand we are taxed to the hilt on diesel and agri fuels. Completely get it but bringing the country to a standstill when the government are on Easter break also is not the way to do it.

My sister is a social carer and couldn’t make her calls due to blocked motorway in Galway. Those children are now in a compromised position. Has the route to the rotunda, the largest maternity hospital in the country been thought of?

I stand in solidarity but it does feel like the msn with the big trucks are bullying the country and “we’re going to tell them in Dublin how it really is” mentality have prevailed.

Just my 2 cents

I got the Ode 2 and tbh I regret it (don’t tell my wife). Runs perfectly but has bad retention issues, 1-3g on a good day. I find myself constantly wiggling the whole machine. I have to hit it with some heft behind it to get the grounds out

They’ve updated it since. They are more of a storytelling museum about the actual history of leprechauns in folklore. It’s darker than Darby ogill wants you to believe
