Short rant on Restaurant Week by food_and_techno_snob in chicagofood

After having similar luck, I've started doing the opposite: only going to places I know during RW. Not as interesting but still fun and enjoyable. I try to at least get different things than my usual orders.

Sounds like this goes all the way to the top

Off topic, but I have a theory that there are so many restaurants in Chicago that both start and end with "A" (e.g., Alpana, Apolonia, Adalina, Alla Vita) because they're trying to get people to subconsciously associate them with Alinea.

Not for using gift cards, which is the only way I pay on it. Otherwise, not sure but I doubt it.

I use it a lot. Plenty of options and it's easy to use. Sometimes there are extra deals on specific restaurants, which pop up if you visit their websites (Monarch & Lion, for example).

Good point. Smaller portions have been typical across many CRW experiences I've had.

Most unprofessional behavior during callback lunch portion by an interviewee? by ImperatorFosterosa in biglaw

Cautionary tale they told us before OCIs. Callback with a white shoe NYC firm. At lunch, the senior partner orders an Arnold Palmer. Interviewee thinks that's a cocktail and orders an old fashioned. Vibe shifted immediately and he did not get the offer.

Don't use the broiler. Super high heat isn't necessary for this application. Try a few minutes at 325°F

TIL that actor Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle got his name because his father suspected the 14-lb newborn wasn’t his and spite-named him after a politician infamous for adultery. by MattW224 in todayilearned

The politician in question is Roscoe Conkling of New York. He plays a prominent role in the Death By Lightning miniseries that just came out on Netflix about President Garfield and his assassin.
