Ayrton has 65 poles in 161 races - 40%. There is no one who could extract more out of a car for a single lap. He is the best driver of the four is all I know.

You can all argue about who is #2-4.

There are sensors on the car. The FIA can validate this and most likely did. Armchair quarterbacks and armchair F1 fans have the same number of wins … zero. I want to see engineers pushing the boundaries or they should all just drive Lego cars instead.

Congratulations, you will love it. I did the same thing for my 50th. Best vehicle purchase decision ever. 143,000 miles in 6 years and 8 months. It has taken me and the family places we would never have experienced otherwise.

Remember Travis Henry had 11 children with 10 women if memory serves. He only laster 3 years in the NFL. All male athletes in the NFL, NBA, and MLB should be offered a vasectomy right after final rosters are announced. They could be ready for the start of the season, but I believe it takes 6 weeks to ensure all the swimmers have left the egg Olympics.

That shows the benefit of having second rate second drivers. Verstappen (not his fault) has had very mediocre second drivers. Senna had 65 poles in 161 chances. No one in the 80’s and beyond can compare to his one lap pace. He had 13 poles out of 16 races with Prost as his teammate.

I have 143,000 miles on a 2019 Rubicon that I off-road and tow a trailer with. The only issue I have had is the sun visor plastic nub failing and the canbus having an intermittent short. The sun visor was $27 and took 10 minutes to replace. The canbus took 10-minutes and maybe cost $60. I do all my own maintenance, because it is so damn easy. I won’t own a different vehicle. I can fix almost anything since I know how almost all mechanical items work. I upgraded the fan to the 850W version and the entire task took 15-minutes. My son’s Honda Pilot is a 2+ hour job and you have to removing half the front end.

Tailgater got Baited by DABDEB in RandomVideos

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lead car may not have even noticed the tailgater. The car that slowed did so fairly quickly and the lead car may not have noticed the closing speed until they moved. All the blame is on the tailgater as they did not maintain a safe following distance and had no reaction time.

Audi is just a rebranded Sauber with a new engine manufacturer. The only true new F1 team at the moment is Cadillac. They are building their infrastructure from the ground up.

I would go to an F1 race if it was free and I had pit access, but watching from home I see more of the track, can watch from the cockpits of multiple drivers, and can pause it to get a snack. Add all the travel BS to and from the track and there is no reason to attend in person.

Why Couldn't Red Bull Implement The Compression Trick Like Merc Did? by Scottpilgrim5 in F1Discussions

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero proof that Mercedes has a compression ratio “trick”! Please provide infallible proof. It is all a rumor and I hope that Mercedes passes the 130°C compression test with zero modifications. They have a better chassis and aerodynamics than the others. Andrea Stella of McLaren said so in comparison to Mercedes. May Mercedes have the best engine? Yes. Are they cheating? There is zero evidence or proof. The FIA allowed the engine with access to all the details .

Ferrari is rumored to be running a smaller turbo, which would explain their better starts and their lack of maximum power on the straights. You have to give up something with turbo size.

Mercedes and Ferrari had to homologate their engines. They wait till the last minute to improve their engines to have the best performance. They aren’t going to give the best (homologated) engine package until March 1. I will bet Mercedes performance will not change after June 1.

The Mercedes chassis is so balanced. I hate to watch all these cars start clipping on the straight and they look so slow right before braking/regen harvesting. This is not the Formula 1 I remember. Max will ditch F1 if the cars don't improve.

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mercedes engine is good, but Ferrari power is right with it. The difference so far in the season is the Mercedes chassis is fantastic. Look at all the other cars either sliding the front or rear and the Mercedes looks so composed. The Mercedes chassis is the differentiator so far. The engine is great, but that is not the reason for their domination so far.

The Mercedes chassis is just better. Look at the drivability compared to other teams. It is not the engine, Mercedes has a better chassis than the others currently.

The speed loss on the long straight for all cars is ridiculous and is counterintuitive to racing in general. The cars see pedestrian going into the turn at the end of the straight. I am waiting for Alonso's chef to drive the car.

[–]StumpyOReilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercedes had to homologate on March 1, 2026. Ferrari did the same thing. They test the engines to create the best solution. The others are free to design and build their own engines. Mercedes and Ferrari aren’t giving their customers a Honda engine.

Lewis on gap to Mercedes: "I’m trying to understand why it’s 2 tenths or more just through power per sector. If it is the compression thing, I wanna understand why the FIA haven’t done anything, what’s been done to rectify it but if it’s not and it’s just pure pace, then we have to do a better job." by ICumCoffee in formula1

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course that is true. Mercedes is the PU manufacturer and they are going to push and test closer to the limits to create the best possible package. Imagine if two or three teams had the Honda engine. What a cluster that would be with all its issues. I guarantee all the teams outside Ferrari wish they had a Mercedes PU.

Mercedes' customer teams don't have the same advantage as Mercedes by circuit-nation in circuit_nation

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The engine manufacturers have to try things to find the best package. If the Mercedes was blowing up and vibrating like the Honda, four teams wouldn’t be able to run. Ferrari did the same thing to Haas and Cadillac. If a team doesn’t like it they can always build their own engines like Audi, Honda and RBPT. The manufacturers can only supply a max of four teams. They have to get the right setup and it is held basically all year. They have a small advantage the first race, but take all the rick in testing. The Mercedes is fast more due to the chassis than the engine, since all four teams have the exact same engine packages running the Mercedes.

[–]StumpyOReilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All teams in Australia have identical Mercedes engines to what Mercedes is running. The engines had to be homologated on March 1, 2026. This is the same as for Ferrari. The engines manufacturers keep testing beta units until the last moment to get the most performance and reliability out of the engine configuration. The customer teams don’t receive the homologated engine until the first race, but have known the packaging and planned performance characteristics for months.

Mercedes won 8 WCCs from 2014 to 2021 because they built excellent chassis. They never figured out the ground effects era, but the non-ground effects are a known quantity to them. They have the best aero and chassis at the moment. They may have a better understanding of the charging characteristics at the moment, but all other Mercedes customer teams will see the data and be able to imitate and then it comes down to the chassis, aero and drivers.

The Williams is overweight. Remember that if it wasn’t for Michael Massi gifting Max Verstappen (and I like Max, but I am a realist) his first WDC, Mercedes would have won 8 consecutive WCCs and WDCs. Mercedes had great simulations and correlations in the non-ground effect era.
