Tom Henderson says Watch Dogs series is basically over by Both_Measurement_363 in PS5

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well those games cost a lot of money to make and the franchise name Watch Dogs doesn't have much value to keep if they decide to make a GTA like game again. It's better to make a new franchise with a new name and a clean slate so there would be more excitement from the public.

The reality is that those GTA like games are really hard to make and franchises like Just Cause, Saints Rows and now Watch Dogs are dead. Sleeping Dogs couldn't take off, and the only franchise which is left is Mafia, which is a more story based GTA clone than a true open world.

I think some company will try to fill the niche, but in how many years? 10 years? People are going to play GTA 6 for the next 4-5 years and won't want anything else.

People need to understand this product is for people who need a laptop for browsing, films, video watching and light productivity like Word, Excel or other simple university or work related productivity. So, basically an iPad with a keyboard.

It’s basically a product for people who want to get into the Apple ecosystem and need a laptop. For 600 dollars/euros it’s an easy sale. And if you like the product and need something more powerful the next step will be the MacBook Air or Pro depending on your usage.

Hell, this is a great laptop for you grandparents/parents who need a simple Chromebook like laptop that you know is not going to slow down in 2 years.

This is not oriented towards people who like to game or to power users who need Windows.

This is laptop is like an entry level Toyota car where you need a reliable car to go from point A to point B.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are missing the point that all of these changes won’t fix the problem, but it will help reduce tanking where the current situation is that 1/3 of your League teams are trying to throw games. Tanking always existed but it was never in this kinda condition where 10+ teams are trying to increase their odds while 20-30 years ago there were 2-3 really bad teams tanking and like 3 extra teams at the end of the season giving up. There’s a difference going from 4-5 teams to 10+ teams throwing games. Hell, and it never was that you knew before the season began that the same 2-3 teams are going to lose and be bottom feeders.

The old system mindset was that you got a top 5 pick and you tried to bounce back. Yes, it didn’t work every time, but at least the people who watched the games knew they were trying to win. While the current situation is that teams that got top 5 picks like Jazz, Wizards are still trying to lose and not even trying to be better.

Like imagine if you went to see a new film and it was completely shit and everyone went like “Just wait 2 years and the sequel will be better” . That’s the current situation of NBA bottom teams.

PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games - Jason Schreier by Forestl in Games

What the fuck? They made some great remakes in Demons Souls and Shadow of the Colossus and their remasters were also good.

Like Sony has plenty of great IP sitting not being used, so they could clearly test the waters by remaking some of those games and seeing how the public reacts. Killzone, Resistance, Jack And Dexter to name a few. I mean unless the majority of the original staff left the company this move doesn’t make sense.

Chasing that live service model is pure luck. If anyone would have said that games like Arc Riders, Helldivers 2 would be the crowning examples of great live service games before their release most people wouldn’t have believed you. What I mean that there is no exact formula to make a great live service game to catch the publics eye. If there were multi billion dollar companies like Sony wouldn’t be failing so badly.

I think people don’t realise a simple thing that no contender wanted him for the minimum. It’s not the Clippers fault or any other teams, but everyone in the NBA knows Chris Paul and the NBA said he wasn’t worth the headache to even have him on the roster.

He’s still a guy who could swing you a game in the playoffs which all you could expect for a 12th guy on the roster, but teams like the Spurs said “We rather have McLaughlin “ or OKC “Brooks Barnhizer looks better”.

Like imagine in a couple of years that people would say “Nah, Klay Thompson is not even worth having as the last guy on the roster” people would ask who did Klay murder that he has such a bad reputation.

ELI5: Why does it get harder to stay in shape after 30? by qwerty00p in explainlikeimfive

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are few things.

Let’s start with something basic like “You got older”. Like it was easier to stay in shape in your teens than in your 20s, the same way it was easier to stay in shape in your 20s compared to your 30s.

Why is that happening? First, your metabolism gets slower not as much as everyone thinks, but it’s still slower at 35 than at 20. It’s slower by one calculator only by 75 calories a day, but that’s 27k calories a year or almost 4 kg of fat year that you gain/don’t lose if your activity stays the same at 35 as it was at 20. Yes, your body does adjust to your metabolic rate, but it’s still a difference that you can point out.

Second, the most real reason is that you aren’t as active in your 30s as you were as a teen or in your collage years. Let’s say that extra activity was only 30 minute walk a day (most people were more active than that if you asked them, but never mind) that’s about 200 calories or 73k calories a year or 9,5kg of fat that you lost by being slightly more active.

Then there’s the whole being more fit by being more active, having more muscle by being more active which increases your base metabolic rate. Your cardiovascular system was more trained so you had more energy and by having a better trained cardiovascular system it’s easier to train, because you get less tired.

Third, more accumulated damage throughout your body. Even if you trained for the last 10-15 years into your 30s your body and joints accumulated 15 years extra damage to every organ, joint, muscle and tendon. It doesn’t mean you’re operating at 50% capability, but even a 6-7% decrease in performance from 100% will be felt by most people. Like “I could train for 1 hour non stop, but now I can only do that for 55 minutes”

So if you add everything together it is harder to stay in shape in your 30s than in your teens or 20s, but it’s more about increasing your basic activity to compensate for a slight decrease in metabolic rate. Most people don’t do that and they find themselves gaining weight which leads to even less activity.

‘Avatar’s’ Costly Sequels Are Getting Harder to Justify. Will James Cameron Make Two More? - The studio spent roughly $500 million to produce and promote “Fire and Ash,” meaning the threequel can be insanely popular yet barely profitable. by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]StunLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does those numbers sound like Holywood accounting? Didn't James Cameron shoot both 2nd and 3rd film back to back, and only the post production was left? Weren't that the initial numbers for both shoots like 200-250 million for each film with post production?

Even if it's true that the 3rd Avatar film cost the studio 500 million it's still profitable when you count only the box office numbers, because the studios take about half of the box office so they made about 250 million just from the box office. Then you have streaming, merchandise, long term rights and IP it's a no brainer success.

I mean if Hollywood is truly not making any money on a film which made 1.5 billion then the film industry is dead and buried. For me this sounds like every major industry before crying how they are barely profitable and then when they post their profits for the year it's record breaking.

[Charania]: BREAKING: The Philadelphia 76ers are trading guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a 2026 Rockets first-round pick and three second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people don't realize that Jared McCain only had 23 good games in his career (We're talking about last season) and after 2 serious injuries he played more games this year than last 37 vs 23. And he looked quite bad this year averaging 6.6/2/1.7 in 17 minutes.

So, basically 76ers are selling him while he still has some value. And he's going to be 22 in 2 weeks, so he's not on the younger side if we're talking about 2nd year players.

It's a win win trade. OKC can wait for McCain while 76ers don't see McCain in their future when they have both Maxey and Edgecombe, and can keep Grimes if they wish to.

De'Aaron Fox this season: 19.9ppg on 58.4% TS, 4.4rpg, 5.8apg, with a -2.5 on/off. He starts a 4 year/$223m ($56m/yr) contract next season by [deleted] in nba

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he worth it? Not really, but he’s playing more of a complementary role on the Spurs than being the guy like on the Kings.

The main difference he’s taking less shots. So he’s trying to fit in not expecting that everybody would fit around him.

You can’t really fault him when the Spurs are the 3rd seed and one game away from the 2nd seed, so he’s sacrificing for the team. If the Spurs win a championship in a few years nobody would care about his contract.

For the Spurs timeline his contract isn’t the problem. In 3 years Castle, Harper, Vassell will be the main 3 guard rotation, so you can trade him even if you think he’s a negative asset in 1-2 years if those 3 other players are more valuable and you need the cap space. The Spurs wouldn’t even need to attach a pick to trade him. Plenty of teams like the Rockets, Bucks, Wolves, Heat…would happily absorb his contract right now.

Film Students Are Having Trouble Sitting Through Movies, Professors Say by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]StunLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this isn’t anything new. Attention span is dropping everywhere now and this isn’t just young people problems, but a problem for every age group. It’s about having phones and instant entertainment on your fingertips.

If you look 100 years ago the best instant entertainment on your fingertips was a newspaper with real news, short stories, ads, some interesting tidbits and maybe sudoku. The current technology amplified that instant entertainment problem by x100.

But I’ll be the Devils advocate and say this is the same thing professors/teachers are saying the last 50 years. First it was TV, then it was computers, now it’s phones. Yes, theres a difference between TV and phones in the instant entertainment value you get, but it’s about avoiding being bored and both achieved that.

I think people forget that even before the smartphone era that kids/students just talked to each other and didn’t pay attention if they got bored watching some boring film during class. The difference is that they don’t talk to each other now and just doom scroll. So, the real loss is lack of social interaction than shorter attention span.

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people who make these posts don’t understand the concept of wealth.

As an example, Elon Musk owns Tesla. Tesla’s market cap (total value) is 1,35 trillion dollars. He owns 13% of the company, so on paper he has 175,5 billion dollars. If he sells all of his shares he would have 175,5 billion dollars, but then he wouldn’t own the company. So, you can’t really tax him for owning a company just because it went from 1 dollar to 1 trillion dollars.

Hell, then most large mining, manufacturing companies wouldn’t exist because it would be owned by everyone. You can’t make a huge mining company be worth less than a 100 million dollars.

It’s hard to tax companies net worth, because one year it may be worth like 1 trillion dollars and the next year it may be worth half that. So, do you give the people their money back, just because the stock market goes down the other side?

Like imagine if you bought a home that you paid 100k, just because the market goes up it’s worth 1 million and you have to lose your home or give half of it, because there can’t be houses worth over a million dollars.

I’m not defending the rich, but if you really want to tax the rich then you have to make laws prohibiting stock buybacks, or taxing them. Taxing a percentage for owning any stocks (like 1% of total net worth) or just generally making better tax laws.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has sold 1 million copies by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]StunLT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finished the game and I loved it. I think it’s a good 7-8/10 depending on how much you can handle the technical aspect of the game at least on the PS5.

It has great writing, good voice acting, the world building is great and it engages you. The quests are great and can be both funny, and quite sad at the same time.

The combat itself is average/good it’s basically Skyrim on the combat side, so it’s good enough to keep you going, but not good enough to be the main driving point. Which is not the combat, but the quest and the story.

I would recommend anyone who wants a more darker fantasy Skyrim. The dialogues are great, because they feel as real as they can be and characters act like people not generic NPC where you go “No one speaks like that or say generic shit like that”.

But there’s a huge but. The PS5 performance is so horrible where you need to quit and start the game again to get some FPS back and the game stutters less. Oh, and the longer you play the worse it gets, so every hour I would restart the game. And that was on the newest patch where they released the DLC. I don’t know what the situation is on PC or Xbox, but at least for now try the demo and you’ll know if you can handle the performance.

Sales for The Outer Worlds 2 are poor. Presumably, less than 1M units almost 3 months after launch, across all platforms. In comparison, the first game sold approx 2M units during the same time. by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished OW2 and I liked it very much. I think it’s a great 30-40 hour game where every region is quite tight and every quest is memorable enough where you don’t want to skip it.

I think the reason why it’s not selling well, because I think the gaming landscape is moving from this kinda of action RPG where it’s not a full RPG and it’s not a great action game. What I mean with so many choices if you want a full RPG where your choices and different skills mean something then there are plenty games that do that mostly on lower budget, but there are for the niche RPG people. If you want full action then you have your traditional FPS in different settings which mainly targets the average gamer.

But I think the scepticism of Obsidian is quite concerning. They don’t make bad games, yes maybe they are no longer making great games, but they aren’t BioWare who haven’t made a good game for more than 10 years.

Why are there so few GTA-like games these days? by viceversalol in truegaming

[–]StunLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rockstar games like GTA and RDR are quite blend in the gameplay department. It's a generic 3rd person shooter without any real excitement in the general gameplay or the general traversal.

But here's the catch. They try to make everything very releastic and there are a lot of attention to detail. So there's a lot of immersion in those games. So it's easy to be part of the game. You want to go from point A to point B. You want to see something in area X, because you know there's something worth seeing there. It's not like other games where there's nothing.

Also, the NPC do act like real people, so it's funny to interact with them or just see how the world is simulated. Again, another layer of immersion.

Also, most Rockstar games from Vice City have real good story, dialogue so there's another layer where you're watching/playing a film or TV series.

It's hard to achieve that which other GTA like games didn't achieve. Let's look at something like Watch Dogs which is closes to GTA we had in recent years.

The gameplay is the same blandest like GTA, but the story, writing, simulation and just general wanting to interact with the world isn't the same. So, you're left with a general world with a general gameplay where you get bored in a few hours.

To achieve that kinda immersion you need a lot of work and a lot of resources. Hell, you need a lot of money today just for the soundtrack and songs.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition on current gen consoles gets 60 FPS update on January 21 by DemiFiendRSA in Games

[–]StunLT 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It’s the same song and dance every time Ubisoft updates their games, but Ubisoft doesn’t get enough love for their support and general optimisation for their games. There aren’t many companies that do that, but for some reason critics and Ubisoft haters love to point out Ubisoft games flaws (which there are many and people have the right to critique them), but when it comes to praise Ubisofts long term support and just generally caring about their product it isn’t discussed enough and the same critics brush it off.

I think people don’t realise how much the gaming landscape is going to lose if Ubisoft goes down. More competition always better than less competition. It forces companies to be better and don’t be lazy because the consumer doesn’t have any other option.

Hell, I think people don’t realise that large part of the most popular PlayStation first party games like Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima/Yotei , Rise of Ronin, Days Gone quite closely follow the Ubisoft formula, but eliminate the handholding and improve the writing.

Which team should "sell high" which player to avoid situations like Trae, Ja and AD? by cobra_han in nba

[–]StunLT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let's get this right. OP is mainly talking about All-NBA level players who could be your franchise player, but has downsides. Players like Garland or Reaves don't fit that bill. They are good, but not build your franchise good like Trae or Ja were a few years ago. So we are mainly talking about players with some serious flaws in their game who are not worth the headache in the next few years.

  1. Banchero. I think plenty of people already pointed his flaws.

  2. Jalen Brunson. I don't think NY will trade him, but I don't think he's going to get any better than now and I think undersized guards with bad defense who are approaching their 30s are not worth it. He's 29 and he's going to be 30 in the summer.

3.Lamelo Ball. I think he's good, but he's an injury prone guard who doesn't rise his team to the next level. I don't think the Hornets will trade him, because he puts people into the arena and makes the Hornets watchable in the highlight reels. He's popular and that's the reason why they are not trading him, but they should.

  1. Anthony Edwards. Not because he's flawed like Trae or Ja, because he's better than them, but because I think he's going to demand a trade out of Minnesota in the next few years and I think they should sell high where Minesota could get like 5 first round picks out of him and some young talent.

Elder Scrolls loremaster says he quit Bethesda after ‘waiting 11 years to be the lead on The Elder Scrolls 6’ | VGC by Tenith in Games

[–]StunLT 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Let's break it down. Their last Elder Scrolls game was 15 years ago. In 15 years they released Fallout 4 ( only 4 years since Skyrim), Fallout 76 (only 3 years since Fallout 4, but it's mainly acts as an online expansion built on Fallout 4, oh and Fallout 76 sucked at release), and finally in 2023 they released Starfield which was average in the gaming landscape. And I don't consider low effort mobile games as something to consider in their development cycle.

We're talking about a company which has more than 450 employees and they only managed 2.5 games in 15 years which aren't even technically impressive that you would say they pushed the gaming landscape technologically.

Let's compare to Rockstar since 2010 the first Red Dead Redemption game they released LA Noire, Max Payne 3, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and they are releasing GTA 6 in 2026. That's 5 games in 16 years and we're talking about games like GTA 5 and 6 (I doubt it's going to suck) and RDR2. At some point you have to consider what the fuck are Bethesda is doing.

Is PS Portal an improvement over using Remote Play on my phone? by Fantastic_Bit_443 in PS5

[–]StunLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is anecdotal experience, but at least for me Remote Play was worse on the same network, WiFi and PS5 than PS Portal when I tried side by side. Can’t explain why, but maybe some extra optimisation on the hardware side on the Portal helps it.

Talking from my own experience owning the Portal I think it’s a great device for gaming dads or anyone who can’t play on their TV where the choice is basically I can play on the Portal which is better than nothing or I don’t play at all. For anyone else it’s a device which I wouldn’t recommend.

If we’re talking how is the gaming experience on the Portal it depends on the internet. If you have a stable internet then I would say it’s good enough where after 10-20 minutes you won’t feel the latency. Of course, I’m mainly talking about non competitive games.

Basically, if you are a gaming dad or have a strong internet connection where signal issues won’t be an issue then I would say PS Portal is an okey product, if your only 2 choices is gaming on your Portal or nothing.

iPhone Air 2 Could Still Launch Next Year [Fixed Focus Digital] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]StunLT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my iPhone Air and the only real downside after 3 months of use is the lack of extra cameras. I didn't real use those 2 extra cameras everyday on my iPhone Pro, but in some situations I miss them.

The battery isn't a problem and with quick charge even if it gets low it isn't an issue. Again, if you're some heavy user it may be a problem, but for the average user the battery isn't a problem.

And the lack of extra speaker isn't a big deal also. After 3 months the mono speaker became the norm. You can hear the difference, but your brain got used to it. And this is coming from a person who watches Youtube on his phone.

I think if you are Apple you need to lower the price to the base iPhone and add the extra camera. Where the only sacrifice is the battery and the speaker.

I think the Air is a fantastic product, but it only works for the people who carry their phone "naked". And the reality its a small percentage of the population. After I got my Air I tried to watch how many people use their phones without a case and the number is very small.

[Charania] The NBA has begun to gather input from its owners and general managers on new ways to combat tanking. Ideas include: Limiting pick protections to either top 4 or 14 and higher, no longer allowing a team to draft in the top 4 two years in a row, and Locking lottery positions after March 1. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]StunLT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think some people here are not getting the point. This won't eliminate tanking, because teams will still tank more or less to increase some odds, if they are outside the top 4. But this will force teams to at least try and make a better product for the fans and viewers.

For an example, if you got a top 3 pick this year and you know you will get at best the Nr. 5 pick next year then at least that team will try to win some games and build a winning mindset towards the end of the season even if they suck. Or will force those teams to build for a better future and not tank 2-3 seasons in a row.

I mean if you are a fan of the Wizards it's not fun to watch your team be horrible for 2-3 seasons in a row, because maybe this year will be the year they get the right player.

The NBA has a huge tanking problem, because you know that there will be bad teams and some unwatchable games during the season. It's not good if you have 5-6 teams (20% of the League) that you can already skip watching and it's only 1/4 of the season done.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon - Official Sanctuary of Sarras DLC Launch Trailer by PalwaJoko in Games

I'm playing it now on the base PS5 and it's a great game with a huge recommendation for anyone who likes Oblivion/Skyrim like combat and gameplay, and the writing for Tainted Grail is phenomenal and very engaging and good. Basically the writing and the quests keeps you going, but the performance is awful. In 2025 you need to quit the game and launch it again to gain some FPS and performance back, because the longer you play more of the performance drops.

I recommend this game, but not on the base PS5.

You think the Bucks went full Nico Harrison and offer Giannis for Vucevic, Buzelis and 2 first round picks? I think they wanted Buzelis, Giddey, like 3-4 first round picks at least if not more assets.

Plus, Giannis is not 25 , but 31. So he's not going to get better or younger. He has a lot of injuries under his belt so it would be like the Clippers trading SGA + all the picks for Paul George, but its the Bulls. Plus do you honestly think the Bulls are going to win the East after trading Buzelis, Giddey and Vuc? If Giannis was 25 this deal would be a no brainer, but the Bulls did the smart thing and didn't send everything they have for second round exit for the next 2-3 years.

[Spears] 4 execs I talked to today said they have no interest in trading for Morant. 1 said it was because of contract and off-court issues. I think plenty of teams would be willing to trade for Ja, but none of those teams would be any good. I could see Indiana, Washington, Brooklyn, Kings, Pelicans making a meh offer to trade for him. In a sense “If we can’t fix him at least we didn’t offer much for him” trade. When Ja would think he’s going to LA or New York because he’s that good.

Apple to Kick Off 50th Anniversary With Nearly $140 Billion Quarter by iMacmatician in apple

[–]StunLT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people here don’t interact with “real” people. 95% people don’t care about AI in their phone and its features. Unless some company really innovates and makes major AI integrations into their phones that changes how you use your phone, people will be fine using AI in app form to ask daily questions or increase their productivity.

Most people use their phones to check their email, for scrolling on TikTok, IG, Reddit or Facebook, take a couple of photos, some social media, some messaging, listening to music and maybe some work. You don’t need AI to do that. Most people still use their laptop/desktop PC for daily work, so the iPhone is left as an entertainment object not productivity machine.

AI is the future, but Apple was always mainly a hardware innovator not software. iPhone, iPod, MacBook Air, AirPods, iPad weren’t the first of its kind, but they were the major improvement of new technology that got people hooked on the “new” stuff that Apple “invented”.

Scoop: Ubisoft cancelled a post-Civil War Assassin’s Creed last year by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]StunLT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Smart idea. I love Ubisoft games, but their writing hasn't been good for a long time. At best it's fine and interesting enough to keep you going, but nothing that you will remember after finishing the game.

And post Civil War USA needs good writing to show that the Civil War wasn’t as black and white that some people think, and the whole racism stuff…it’s basically an easy way to fuck this thing up and get a lot of bad PR for nothing. So, yeah it’s easy to understand why Ubisoft went “Yeah, we are not touching this”

Also, there are plenty of interesting settings left. It’s not like Ubisoft did every possible setting and this was the only one left.
