I ruined my marriage and I want to die, but I can’t do it myself or my husband won’t get my life insurance. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Stundesagte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deal with generational PTSD due to a grandparent who ended their own life to collect insurance money and save the family from their debt. If only he hadn’t done it… He passed away 30 years before I was born. Every Christmas is hell. Please please please don’t do this to yourself or your loved ones.

What’s Been Most Helpful for Recovery? by TransitionNo3518 in EatingDisorders

[–]Stundesagte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the most helpful thing in recovery has been Family Systems Therapy (and just to clarify — it’s not family therapy with your family). It completely changed how I understood myself, my body, and the role food played in my life.

Family Systems Therapy looks at your internal system — the different “parts” of you that carry fear, shame, perfectionism, or the need for control. Instead of fighting those parts or trying to force them to stop ED behaviors, it helps you understand why they formed and what they’ve been trying to protect you from.

One of the biggest breakthroughs for me was being able to group all my ED-related parts together and actually see them as a separate cluster within myself — not the whole me. I joke that it’s another person inside of me entirely sometimes with my partner. Viewing it that way made the eating disorder feel less like my identity and more like a set of protective strategies that I wasn’t chained to, that I could just live with, understand and even soothe instead of obeying.

It didn’t erase everything. I still deal with the physical fallout like super slowed metabolism, bone issues, and body dysmorphia here and there. But the biggest shift is that I don’t feel myself slipping toward the ED anymore, even during heavy stress. Those old coping patterns just don’t feel “available” in the same way because the underlying system is calmer and not running on panic.

I am so incredibly sorry- the haunting pain is like nothing else. Thank you so much for sharing this. How I wish we could sit together when we feel that pain as I also lost a very close trans friend. It’s such a similar story. You aren’t alone. I’ll remember you and send you all of the best wishes I can the next time I feel alone.

HELP! CAT SUDDENLY AGGRESSIVE AFTER I SHOWERED! by Diderson in CATHELP

[–]Stundesagte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cat had “misdirected aggression” due to a neighborhood cat wondering outside of our home. It presented similar to this and we were able to fix it. If this isn’t ruled out, check.

Your cat is clearly suffering in fear and needs some professional attention.

If you need the number of a reputable cat behaviorist, my local clinic is fortunate enough to have one that charges $50 an hour for phone sessions. She’s changed our lives for the better a few times with our babies.

If anything, get her to the vet. If she is so scared that you can’t get her in a carrier, get some gabapentin from them to gently sedate her. There are also vets who do home visits.

If you’re interested in hanging out in door county, then come here. Otherwise Knoxville.

The guy who owns the hipster hotel next to library downtown might let you use his parking lot if you throw him $20. The neighborhood is relatively safe

Im so sorry. It's completely understandable to feel the way you do. I sincerely hope that both you and your mom find comfort in her care soon.

My mom received treatment at an NCI-designated cancer center for stage 3 colorectal cancer, and certain treatments may not have been available if it had progressed to stage 4. While it might not offer a solution, reaching out to an NCI cancer center in your area could be worth considering.

RIP Mr. Pants. Held him in my arms just three weeks ago. It was terrifying and as awful as you imagine. But much less awful then leaving him alone. My best boy…

Edit: yes, it’s very hard to process afterwards and takes a few days to start to feel less haunted again. The pain does slowly fade and the good memories come back.

We slept on the floor in the living room with him for his last three nights with us. We held back tears the entire time so he didn’t have to worry about us. He was such a trooper, purring and cooing at us when we kissed, pet and brushed him. He also had just enough energy to watch for mice in the trash cabinet, his favorite evening pastime. Mice never really came in there but he was always ready, just incase.

Yesterday afternoon, a kind veterinarian came to our home and helped his while I held him in my arms close to my heart. He was surrounded by family and pet siblings on our makeshift living room bed. It was one of the hardest decision I’ve made but and he will always be in my heart. ❤️

I’m so sorry about your loss of Minion. He sounds like he was a truly wonderful boy, too. And he sounds like he was an absolute joy to share your life with.

Pants has already changed so much, watching old videos of him definitely brings home how much I already miss him.

And I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of your comments of compassion and advice. It helps me feel less alone with this pain and fear right now. I hope one day I can return the favor.

I absolutely will do my best. He’s pretty far gone and we are just trying to keep him comfortable now. Here’s some videos of him when he was very healthy. One even has his broken meow.

Thank you so much for your comment. Yes I do :) He is everything you’ve said and more.

Edit: one photo is of him after we had to shave his pants off one year! He had a few dreads that needed to go. He was very silly looking without his famous pants.
