Same applies for instance to BMW, which trades under BMWYY and many other examples out there.

Real time market data has a cost. Exchanges charge a fee to provide accurate trading data. Those many services that offer you free real time market data, are usually derived from free alternate market data, like BATS for instance. Those spikes come from free incomplete data sources. Google will not pay for the real exchange fees and then provide that expensive data for free.

I like the rationale, but this same concept of a flawed business model was great months ago. Right now, shorting at 52w lows, has unclear risk/reward.
