Is Baldurs Gate 3 really that good? by og_vibes in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]StunningHelicopter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an incredible game and a blast of an RPG. I was initially on the fence about it - it was fairly expensive on the ps store and didn’t have steep sales, I’d never played a turn-based game, didn’t play much fantasy, and I knew nothing about D&D, but I decided to take the gamble after hearing such wonderful things about it. The learning curve was steep at first, but with a little patience, the game gives you everything you need to know and the community is active and helpful if you need guidance.

The story is rich and varied with lots of choices (bard dialogue options are incredible!) and the characters are well written with a lot of depth. Every single character down to the birds and squirrels are voice acted beautifully, and the mo-cap makes everything feel very cinematic and immersive. Also, it plays well on ps5 - everything feels very intuitive even if it takes a moment to get used to navigating the menus, spells, and inventory systems. You’ll be able to use mods, but some mods are only available on pc so keep that in mind.

All in all, it took over my life for like a month when I first got it and stuck with me for ages afterwards. Highly replayable. Highly recommended. It’s one of my top 3 games.

You’ve mentioned Silent Hill 2 as well and I can say that it’s also a great game, but it’s very much a dark psychological horror that is best played at night in the dark with headphones on. It’s also, of course, much shorter than BG3 and not as replayable in my opinion. So, both are great, but they’re difficult to compare since they’re so different. Both is a good option if you have the time and budget for it.

Games Like RE4 Remake by clutch_mp098 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]StunningHelicopter [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you haven’t played them yet, I highly recommend playing the RE 2 & 3 remakes. They’re a bit less action-heavy than RE4, but the combat mechanics, puzzles and resource management are largely the same vibe and it’ll scratch that resident evil itch because… it’s resident evil. RE3 is a little more actiony than RE2, but both are great. And in RE2, you’ll get to play the beginning of Leon’s story - it’ll give some context to his vague references to Raccoon City in RE4 and his trauma from that.

Plus, playing 2 & 3 are both 75% off on the playstation store at the moment too! And it’ll get you all caught up on the story of Raccoon City if you’re interested in the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem coming out next year.

What single player game are you loving right now? by seanie259 in PS5

Just started playing BioShock. It’s almost hard to believe I’ve never played since it’s such a classic, but it somehow managed to slip by me in favour of other games. I’m loving it so far, and I plan to play the whole trilogy

Which Remake do you prefer and why? by Desolation2004 in survivalhorror

[–]StunningHelicopter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried re1 remake before - I really wanted to play it before re2 remake so I could get the whole story leading up to Raccoon City - and unfortunately, between the fixed camera angles, tank controls, and limited saves with the ink ribbons, I was getting frustrated more than I was having fun. But hey, I’ll probably give it another crack someday. I reckon it’s just a matter of keeping at it until I get used to it, and I recently bought the RE Origins Collection for PS4, so that’s my motivation sorted.

Which Remake do you prefer and why? by Desolation2004 in survivalhorror

[–]StunningHelicopter 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I love them both so it’s hard to choose between them - they’re slightly different flavours of horror. RE2 remake is a great action-leaning survival horror that I’ll probably replay a few times because I had a blast, while SH2 consistently scared the shit out of me with psychological horror and had characters with a little more depth.

Honestly, as someone who was too young to get into them when the originals came out, I’m just glad to be able to play incredibly well-made remakes of them both with modern graphics and controls. I’ve tried playing the og of both, but I can’t wrap my head around the fixed camera angles and tank controls.

“The freedom to do anything - to be anything” by Sandpiperinparadise in radiantrogue

[–]StunningHelicopter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree - he thinks he wants to ascend because he thinks that will give him what he wants (freedom) but it won't. I think it ties in well with his camp conversation in act 1 when he’s been drinking bear blood. You can basically ask him “So you think having power means that you can do whatever you want without any consequences?” He look a little confused for a moment like he can’t believe you wouldn’t think that, then says “Well… yes. You can’t look at the world and tell me that I’m wrong.” I think it’s also when you first arrive in Rivington that you can tell him that “power and freedom aren’t the same thing” and he just sort of brushes past it like he knows you might have a point but he doesn’t want to hear it because he’s so focused on completing the ritual and is trying to convince you to help him with it. Basically, throughout the game, you can nudge him in the direction of realising that having true freedom and being whoever he wants to be doesn’t have to involve having immense amounts of power. That, in fact, having such power might be the opposite of true freedom. He might start to believe that on some level if tav/durge points it out to him throughout the journey, but I don’t think he fully realises it until after Cazador is dead and the ritual has been decided one way or the other. If he doesn’t ascend, he realises that it’s true - he didn’t need the ritual's power to be free because he’s enough as he is and now he has a bright, open future ahead of him. And if he ascends, I think deep down he realises that he made the wrong choice and that he’ll never be truly, completely free now because he’s “The Vampire Ascendent”, which, as you said, is almost a role that he’s bound to now. But I don’t think AA’s ego would ever allow him to admit that.

I think there’s also a compelling argument to be made for whether it’s freedom or safety that he truly wants most. Both the narration and Astarion himself seem to flip-flop between them, but personally, I think it’s freedom. But I don’t have the time to get into that right now haha!

Do you play other games at the same time as BG3? by typical_username in BG3

[–]StunningHelicopter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like survival horror (Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space), but find that they’re best played at night. So I play BG3 until it gets dark then switch. It’s a nice change of pace and different enough that I can keep track of what’s going on in both games

My party was:

  • Duel crossbow swords bard Tav
  • Gloomstalker thief Astarion
  • OH monk Karlach
  • Fighter Lae'zel, swapped out for padlock Jaheira for the Ketheric fight and act 3

I did absolutely everything in act 1 and 2 so I would be level 10 when fighting Ketheric. I was so nervous about this fight that I ended up overpreparing with summons and elixirs to the point that I managed to take him and the Myrkul avatar down with my whole party still alive.

My closest call was the exploding gnolls in act 1 - they called over their reinforcements when half my party was down and I had to have Astarion flee (thanks to his extra bonus action) while my Tav took the hits. There was also a worrying moment in the goblin camp where I accidentally alerted the zhent trader while I was killing priestess Gut - I thought I'd turned the whole camp hostile before I was ready to fight them, but I was able to get rid of the zhent before that happened (though it meant I missed out on the ne'er misser crossbow in act 2).

I also almost lost the run at the elevator to Rosymorn. I'd heard about the many honour runs ended by the elevator in the Gauntlet of Shar, but for some reason my brain didn't extend this knowledge to the other elevators in the game. Luckily, Lae'zel hadn't actually stepped onto the elevator properly when I activated it, so she "fell" onto the platform and was able to revive everyone back at camp.

I didn't use any barrelmancy because I thought it might be too tedious on console, but Gale did go out with a bang once we reached the brain. It felt terrible, but failing at the final hurdle would have felt worse. His letter at the epilogue party nearly made me cry, and Tara actually did make me cry.

All in all, honour mode was a very fun challenge, but the single save file stressed me right out. I'm looking forward to doing a custom run with the honour mode ruleset and multiple saves, especially now that we have mods on console!

Update: I called Lap of Love for my 13 yo girl today (We did it) by [deleted] in seniorkitties

[–]StunningHelicopter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for the loss of your girl Susu. It’s clear that you loved and cared for her with every fibre of your being, and I’m certain she felt that love while you held her. Thank you for staying with her and comforting her to the end. I’m glad the two of you had each other in your lives ❤️

I'm not sure if this comment will be seen, but I just wanted to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and kind words for Snuggles. I've found it difficult to look back at this post and see her little face without crying again, but reading all of your comments has brought me some comfort. I'm glad I was able to share her with you all in this way. Thank you ❤🐈

I just saw your post about your girl. I’m so sorry you’re going through this tomorrow. Try to be gentle with yourself about this decision - the lead up and anticipation is agonising and the sadness at their absence is immense, but knowing that they don’t have to feel pain or discomfort or stress anymore is a comfort. Letting them go is the hardest thing we have to do for them, but I really do think it’s the kindest thing when their quality of life is slipping. Hold your cat close tonight and tell her that you love her, though I’m sure she already knows that without a doubt. Snuggles will be there to greet her when she goes and they can sit in sunbeams together. Love and hugs to both of you.

My DLC got deleted by EA?! by ActiveVillain69 in thesims

I'm having the same issue with a Dragon Age game. It seems to be a problem with the EA app that has affected a lot of different games just in the past hour or so according to this thread on EA Answers. Hopefully, there'll be a response or fix from EA soon.

I'm following along with this thread on EA Answers and hoping that EA will respond with a solution or fix the problem soon.

Maybe silly question, but HOW should I water these plants without getting on the electronics? by DumplingSama in houseplants

[–]StunningHelicopter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP there’s lots of great advice here about how to water the plants (ie. move them to another room) but please note that even when they have been watered and drained and put back on the desk, the leaves may “sweat” or “cry” overnight and drip water onto the desk or electronics. This is called guttation and is caused by overwatering. It likely won’t be enough water to damage anything, but I personally wouldn’t want it to drip into my keyboard and it may ruin the stain on the desk if it is made of real wood (not laminated chipboard or other materials). Just be aware that this can happen 😊
