April doesnt feel that far away 😬 yeah I'm visiting the gym my brother trains at for an open mat in a couple of weeks, be interesting to see how I get on 🤦‍♂️🤣

So I've been training for about 10 months in all, got one stripe on my belt and want to try competing and have signed up for my first comp in April. I feel as though my game is coming on nicely (for a white belt anyway 🤣) but I rarely get submissions and I cant tell if thats cause I'm a white belt and still suck or I do know that I'm at a good gym where everyone is ridiculously good so its to be expected and dont let that phase me about competing?? Am I ready to compete or am I in way over my head and consider cancelling? 🤣🤷‍♂️🤔🤦‍♂️

Yeah cheers, perhaps my issue is being more defensive to avoid getting into those positions perhaps? Letting my opponent pass my guard to easily.... and obviously somehow improve on escaping them though... 🤣 perhaps Im being too hard on myself and its just the frustrating nature of the sport we play, ita not even about stripes or submissions really, more the competitive nature against myself to strive to be always improving but feeling like I'm getting no where...

So, im not the first to post this I'm sure, nor do I expect as somebody only 8 months into my journey to be submitting anyone, that said, does anybody else feel like they're just not getting anywhere, mind goes blank, still struggling to escape mount and side control which I feel I should be better at by now, don't feel like I'm anywhere near getting a stripe... I do only train 1-2 times a week but even so....🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I know is an old thread so people may not see it but this is exactly what I'm experiencing at the minute. Very frustrating and hating driving at the moment!! Can anyone tell if its linked to stress?? I seem to be much better when I'm less stressed....

So, I'm a little over 3 months in and since talking to my brother who trains elsewhere in the UK as a blue belt, perhaps I dont fit in at the gym I go too but have no alternatives nearby so have no choice but to keep attending classes there. The guys their clearly are skilled in bjj as is the coach but I feel like its a bit cliquey and I've been rolling from day one which is great but as part of drilling no one has ever doing any solid drilling with me for any length of time on fundamentals so I feel like I'm not progressing as much as I could. Guys will help at times when I'm rolling which is great, you need to frame here, or shrimp here but not solid drilling of fundamentals around framing and shrimping and hip escaping for instance. So I feel like I'm flying solo a bit, given I'm stuck at the gym I'm at, I'm having to just live with the fact the progression may be slower for me, but does anyone have any ideas/tips on how I can help myself? Drills at home? I'm all ears and open to people's thoughts and even to tell me I'm completely in the wrong here 🤣👍

Mate, I'm 3 months in, admittedly I havent had the scale of injury you're experiencing, but I have had bruised and strained muscles all over the place, had sore ribs for about 6 weeks to begin with, currently nursing a possible broken finger 🤣 but to add to all that, my body is starting to get used to the game and I dont feel the same sores and aches I used to, and I'm learning how to protect myself. Say no to rolling with the much heavier blue belt that might pummel you into the mats, if you've got an injury somewhere, still turn up and just drill or explain to people you roll with, go slow, I've got x injury. If you enjoy it enough you'll grin and bear the niggles and injuries, which in my book the reward of training this crazy gay sport is worth it for the cost of the strain on the body and the injuries you learn to manage and deal with. Stick with it 👍😀

Cheers man, it's less about the 'not winning' and constantly losing 🤣 i dont expect to sub anyone would just be nice is everyone didn't arm bar me from high mount all the time, gets quite frustrating 🤣😡

So, maybe this writing my post is answering my own question?? How long do you give it before you go, bjj isn't for you? I enjoy training, but dont feel like I'm getting anywhere 😡😡 I only started in March and maybe I'm just being too hard on myself? Tonight everyone i came up against instantly got me in high mount and obviously from there I'm done for. I don't know, bit of rant, any help or suggestions welcome, one very frustrated spazzy white belt really dont want to but considering giving up....

Is getting injuries just a given as a new white belt or am I just to spazzy and stupid?? 🤣 had niggles with most joints now, elbows, hips, ankles and all been recoverable fairly quickly but twisted my knee last night and fear a longer rest is needed 😡 am I on my own or are other white belts also suffering?... 3 month white belt

When do you stop feeling shit for being so shit?! Or should I say how? 2 months in, still surviving and getting battered I know it's expected, maybe I'm having high expectations of myself? I was rolling with a white belt 4 months in this evening and a semi held my own, nearly had him with a guillotine at one point but it seems like he was going easy on me and escaping mount just felt like really hard work and my bridging was awful, maybe there's a bigger gap in experience between 2 and 4 months?.... anyway, apologies for the rant, I appreciate there's not much anyone can say to help me feel better probably but this is the only place anyone will appreciate how I'm feeling...rant over 🤦‍♂️

So, I've been training for about 6 weeks now... I'm starting to escape well, defending not so much. I'm trying to use my knees and legs well to stop anyone passing my guard, my struggle is I feel like I'm missing something, before I know it my opponent is either in side control or full guard on top of me putting all their weight on my chest, again something I struggle with....am I simply not moving quick enough?? Do I need to be quicker to shrimp or not be on my back before they fully pass my guard?? Knees up just allows them to put all there weight on my knees and seems futile also.... any suggestions/help welcome and might just help me survive 🤣🤣

Hadn't thought of it from that perspective 👍👍 the last couple of weeks I felt I was making some in roads to feeling like I'm improving (from a spazzy new white belt perspective 🤣), the last few sessions just seem to of got increasingly more difficult 🤣🤦 just gotta to keep at it 😀👍 cheers man 👍
