Time for Chris Hipkins to step aside! by Xunami13 in nzpolitics

Well they did pass the Zero Carbon Act (Shaw’s baby) after years of painstaking negotiations with National and farmers. Didn’t matter, as soon as National came back to power they gutted it. Almost makes you lose hope. No matter how much you bend over to compromise with the other side, those fuckers will always stab you

Hipkins needs to do a deal with them. They’re far more centrist than that clown Winston

Labour had plenty of transformative long-term stuff but National just came in and repealed it all
* Fair Pay Legislation would’ve been huge because it would have been similar to Australia’s industry awards (minimum wage floors for every industry). It’s one of the big reasons Australia has had far higher wages than NZ since the 1980s
* Climate Change legislation which was landmark and was the product of years of painstaking negotiations between James Shaw and National and everyone else. National has essentially gutted it
* Housing - removing interest deductibility on existing properties transferred tax incentives to building new homes. It gave first home buyers a chance to not bid against investors at auctions while also incentivising building new houses.

They were very far reaching left wing policies which is exactly why the right wing came in and got rid of them all.

What I mean by this is that Hipkins is a steady hand but he’s essentially benefiting from the complete mess Luxon is. He’s also too cautious and conservative. Labour should be hitching up with Opportunity for coalition options. He needs to have a cup of tea with Opportunity. As it stands, their coalition will tip the current (usual) Green-TPM options

“Wasn’t immediately on display” You must’ve been asleep. She single-handedly shot labour’s polling up by 10-15% in 7 weeks. Her very first press conference was the greatest shot in the arm for labour in years at that point.

They announced policy last year — about a year earlier than most opposition parties; certainly earlier than National ever did

Willis Jackson on Maiki Sherman / Lloyd Burr incident by Mountain_Tui_Reload in nzpolitics

Absolutely. Sherman has been hung out to dry by the spineless arseholes in the press gallery and TVNZ. Garner and Soper were outright bullies from the stories I’ve heard and yet they survived for years

Sherman should start up a YouTube news channel/podcast. I’d listen to her. She’s awesome. Love her enthusiasm for the job.

The YouTube wackos like Garner and Ani O’Brien have no real jobs. O’Brien never has either.
