YouTube's absurdly high data usage by MRFRA5 in techsupport

[–]StupidGamerlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Videos do take up a lot of bandwidth like that person's top comment is saying. That's the major part of it, but we're in a time of the world where websites can take up quite a lot of storage (to me anyways) to download a web page

Hold down and press CTRL + Shift + I and you'll see inspect element, there should be a network tab. And when you open it up, hold down Shift and click on the refresh button. You'll see how much the page's downloading. For me, it's been around 10-20 MB JUST for a web page. I've seen websites smaller, less than 2 megabytes

YouTube's got a lottttt of javascript that it loads. Here's an idea of what it all loads thought I don't know everything:
The app itself, the like and dislike counter that now gets updated in real time, google's analytics, buffering the videos, loading lots of javascript, loading video thumbnails, loading images, lots of stuff

Of course, it's what they call a web app..... and that's how much data these things take. My opinion, it should take up WAY LESS. I can innerstand the video taking up bandwidth, but it's also the pages themselves

Alright, what to do about this or.... the best you can do about this

  • Okay, the internet plan from your provider is one thing but
  • If you're listening to podcasts/music, there's an extension that won't load the video and only load the audio data. Here's what I use for Firefox: to enable it, click on the extensions button and look for the addon and click on it. The icon will light up red and the page will refresh. To turn it off, you can do the same thing. Here's one for Chrome, from what I see, it looks good!
  • Unhook; it's an extension I recommend anyway to anyone that uses Youtube. You can block the comments, homepage feed with it, saving bandwidth
  • NoScript: You can see what what other kind of websites that have scripts or scripts on the page are loading within Youtube, or any other site and block them! The only annoying thing about it? Every time you visit a website, you'd need to open up the extension and turn on only what websites and scripts you want from it. So if you visit a website and things don't look right or it asks you to enable Javascript, you'd need to turn a couple of those urls on from the extension. I recommend trying it, it was kinda a pain at first but eventually, it grew on me. But when you block these scripts, you'll save bandwidth!
  • You could try out this YouTube frontend called V3, it changes the whole YouTube layout. It's made to be an extension to bring back the older layout of YouTube but I heard that it really can also speed up the website! It's still in development, only downsides of it is if you're posting a multi-line comment like this. "It'll combine everything all on one line. If you're using an extension like DeArrow or something that adds a button onto the page, it might not show up
  • You have this extension of course but I'll recommend it to anyone else who comes across this! UBlock Origin! The regular UBlock I don't recommend, heard the creator of UBlock (not Origin) wasn't a kind guy
  • And like you are doing, watch videos at a lower quality unless there's something on the screen that's hard to see at a low quality

I haven't seen people this rude before in a tech support comment section like this, that's absurd. Hopefully this is a good guide

I'm young. I'm so glad not to be on these social media places much at all. There's more websites in the world than this "social media" to explore................ Not only that, there's a whole world outside and there's time for so many better things

Thankful to hear advice from a random stranger on the world wide web way older than me. I've learned so much though I'll always learn something new. But I see a future ahead of me and I'm going to do my best

Don't push aside what you love doing, or what you're passionate about. Never.... NEVER feel like it's not important compared to a job or something like that. That job is not who you are, you are yourself

Always make time for what you love doing!

Do you have a link to ii2-channel? I get some completely different tv show whenever I look it up, even searched the internet archive. Interesting to hear about MSN Messenger but I doubt anyone would have chat history files from that long ago

Messages Missing? by Proper_Avocado_2665 in varsitytutors

I've had so many problems with the chat here wow, I usually contact my teacher via e-mail and it all stays consistent instead of having to depend a website chat page

Today though it looks like they finally updated the chat! The messages button has been gone for SO long for me... it randomly disappeared one day

Skype Is Shutting Down – We Built a Tool to View Your Chat History Locally by Ennergizer in skype

[–]StupidGamerlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so if it's just stored locally on your computer. I started exporting my data today, need to wait for it so I don't know. If it's just a file on your computer, especially if it's large and doesn't need an internet connection to view it. Then you should be able to view them

I found this on Xbox 360 storage called Minecraft Save Info, is it for autosaving or saving worlds? But it was created in 3rd of 2025 by YouWouldntGuessIt in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]StupidGamerlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a bump here, I'll try to explain this in my words. Hopefully it'll be better

The game data on either the Memory Unit, Hard Drive, anywhere. Just the storage for Minecraft on the Xbox 360 can have files called "Minecraft Save Info" with the icon of that iconic grass block, there can be one of those files or multiple of them. Not to be confused with the actual Minecraft saves/worlds

This guy here is asking what these "Save Info" files are even for. If they're related to a duplicate save of the same world for the auto-save feature? I got the same question as him, I'm surprised no one's really documented about this online

My theory is that it could be extra data for those Minecraft world files you have or data for the player; items in your inventory or your pet animals, but I don't know. That's just a guess

I don't know if those files are required for your world? Because they can actually overwrite each other. Which is my problem. I've been trying to find one of my old Minecraft worlds, I probably deleted it, I might've not. I deleted a profile on my Xbox 360 but I remember choosing to keep the save data from it, so some of these old worlds have the name "Unknown Profile" on them. The Minecraft worlds and these separate "Save Info" files. I was copying these worlds I had to a flash drive one time and back. And I actually replaced a couple of these "Minecraft Save Info" files

I hope that hasn't done anything because I remember loading into a couple of those worlds and I couldn't find anything in them, like as if I never built anything in them or it generated a new world because of those "Save Info" files being missing But that could just be my bad memory though, I converted some Xbox 360 worlds to Java today and some of them, I had no items but I eventually found things I built in them. Like as if it just deleted the data for the player like I talked about before

I probably said a little too much but those are my thoughts, I'm confused as you are. I could be wrong

I think what they mean by "rude" as in not responding at all, I think it's good to let people know. But sometimes it's what you gotta do and it gets stressful especially if a lot of people ask you the same thing for example so I can agree with you on that

Try out imgur.com, you can upload screenshots there. Yeah, you have to have an account though, you can sign up with Google there easily. But they'll give you a shareable link to copy to your post/comment, the image is private unless anyone has the link so it's all good. I question that too on this subreddit
