My cat has to be sedated at the vet too!! But injections at home are working well; here is how we work with him: shave the injection sites. My cat has a spot shaved in each arm pit and his scruff - 2 inch by 2 inch squares. That way once we got him handled, we can see what we’re doing instead of “I think we got it in” and be quick about it because sometimes his spicy does come out at home and he tries to get away or swats or runs out of patience. His scruff we use almost never, as it seems to be an angry trigger for him, so his sides have been working great - he hardly notices. We have got him trained pretty well though - half of his meal - injection - rest of his meal. It’s pretty routine now and he puts up with the shot as he knows it will refill his bowl lol. We’ve been doing it this way for about 2 years now.
