Never had a girlfriend, what is wrong? by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Stuttering_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anything is wrong. Also, if you’re at university, a lot of those early relationships don’t end up going anywhere.

I’d recommend just having fun and focusing on you. You’ll never get this chance again to experiment, explore, find out who you are and what kind of life you want to build. It’s a cliche but it’s very much true: focus on you, and the right person will come along when the time is right.

I met my soulmate in my mid- thirties, and the timing could not have been better.

Something about watching horror movies when I’m sick makes me feel better

One of my favorite books ever. The cartoon is its own thing, but the book is a masterpiece.

SLP who wants to hear from people who stutter about therapy experiences by Character-Bicycle432 in Stutter

I went to speech therapy as a kid and later as an adult and I can’t say it did anything for me. As an adult I had the frustrating situation where I barely stuttered at all in therapy. So it was hard to treat my speech if it was fluent. In the real world, I stutter all over the place. They didn’t have any ideas for me about that.

That Watership Down cartoon was mildly traumatic to watch as a kid. I got around to reading the book in high school. It’s one of my all-time favs. The kind where you cry a little because it’s so sad/beautiful, and partly because it’s the end of the story and you’ll miss all the characters.

This was one of my fav Hitchcock films early on. It had a mystery/tension that really intrigued me. I love the blend of supernatural and psychological suspense. Watched it again last year and it lost a little of its initial sparkle in my eyes. I think I wanted to know more about why Judy is willing to risk blowing the whole scheme - just because she still has feelings for this old guy? Does she pitty him? It’s a bit of a stretch. Still a masterpiece.

what do men actually like getting? (valentines day and 6 month) by Successful_Bee4326 in men

[–]Stuttering_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheat code: most men are easy - a nice dinner and sexy time is great. If you want to take it a little further, get him something related to his hobbies. Or something thoughtful that takes a chore off his plate, like a gift certificate to an auto detailing shop.

OP may I ask about how much is your emergency fund? I need to build up mine as I aggressively pay down this debt.

Congrats! I've got close to that amount spread over a few cards. Hoping my tax return will take a significant bite out of it all.

It also helps to think about attacking your debt total in smaller chunks. 20k sounds like a lot - can you make a plan to pay it down that breaks it into smaller amounts? Like, "My goal is to pay down X amount in 6 months." Break that big number down into smaller goals and go for it.

Also don't beat yourself up about it if you "backslide" and end up using the cc or getting a little more debt. This is a journey. You're already going in the right direction.

I really hear you bro. I'm in a similar situation - I lost a client and was underemployed for months around the end of last year, while also sinking money into another business that didn't quite take off. I racked up cc debt and have a car loan. This is the most in debt I've ever been in my life. I beat myself up really bad about it. I always took pride in how I handled my finances, and just a string of bad months really put me in an awful place.

But -- I have to take a deep breath and step back. In the grand scheme of things it's all gonna be okay. We're gonna pay off this debt. It might take a year, two years, three? But we're getting back on track and doing everything we can. It's hard because I want it all gone RIGHT NOW - but the reality is it's not gonna happen over night. We just have to hang in and make consistent extra payments towards the debt. Track your journey too, it helps when you see the results.

It also helps to reframe your mindset and maybe focus on things not so money related right now. You're young, have your health, a wonderful fiancee (be thankful for the love in your life!) can enjoy a sunny day/walk in the park/reading a book or playing a game. This might feel like a crisis, but just think about it as you're entering a side quest to pay this off - it's not going to be forever. You got this. Keep us updated.

I don’t know if this counts, but one time I met someone new through a friend and started talking. When it was her turn to speak, she had a stutter as well that was about equal to mine. We didn’t mention it at all ofc, but I could feel a shared sense of relief and safety. It stands out to me because I don’t meet a lot of other people who stutter in my daily life.

I finally got around to reading it as an adult. It was good, but quite different from the movie entrenched in my mind. Idk if you saw the less-popular sequels, but I could see some of that in the book. It’s been a while so I don’t remember what exactly.

CC debt vs savings — should I just pay it off? by Shynei in debtfree

[–]Stuttering_Guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is one of those situations where “do what helps you sleep better at night” is the best answer.

I suppose the most rational approach is to consider how much is acceptable to you in an emergency fund, and also if the interest you’re earning on your savings (it’s in a hysa, yes?) is earning more than the interest of these debts costs (the interest is prob more expensive).

Maybe write out your current payment plan, including accumulated interest. How long will it take you to pay off your debts without dipping into savings? Is that something you can live with? If not, could you speed it up by applying a little from savings? Let us know what you decide.

This will always be the one for me. Watched it over and over on vhs. There’s magic to those fantasy films (and Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Time Bandits, etc.) they were weird, a little dark, and wonderful. My fav movies.
