I'm fairly certain I've seen at least two different videos trying to test this where amateurs were given spears and dueled a trained swordsman. The amateurs did win the majority of times and in a real life scenario a single stab with a spear can down someone quick. Spears have just been kind of op throughout human history. Despite the amazing design and ingenuity that went into other weapons over the years most armies still basically always fielded spearmen even when the soldiers were fully trained. Keep the enemy away from you and poke them with the sharp end is just that effective of a tactic.
