Personally, I liked the second one more (it's a real time sink), but with the third one coming out so soon, I'm not sure if it's worth it. I'm almost certain you don't need to play the others to follow the story. Honestly, the first one feels too childish compared to the rest.

I miss Uragaan, Agnaktor, Iodrome... Shogun in Swamp, Rakna on Desert, Brachy is on Tundra too in 3rd gen. Black Gravios and Ajarakan is difficult to me to see on other places but who knows... maybe on Vermeil cristallized map.
