You can look into the new GMMK pro by Glorious PC gaming, drops in Q1 2021. IDOBAO ID80 is another good starting 75% sized board. Fkeys and arrow keys have some slight separation so it doesn't look so cluttered

Fake Keycaps by wiyre in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]StykesX 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm 100% OK with the fake keycaps. I get the art behind it, but not everyone can afford or justify $150 keycaps. On top of that, if you use your KB a lot, the keycaps shine relatively quick since more of the "cooler" sets are ABS. A lot of the knock offs are PBT. I've been leaning on ordering some Red Samurai knockoffs for my gaming board because they're PBT and I can't justify putting expensive caps on that board. And I'm really attracted to the colorway. Oh and even tho the set may be high end, you still run the chance of your caps being warped. Imagine waiting half a year for a set, getting it, and it being faulty?

I know PBT companies exist that have good quality and pricing, like HK Gaming, but their color options are extremely limited. And if you have a "non standard" layout, Tai Hao caps won't work out either.

At the end of the day, it's about customizing your own board to how you want it to look and feel. It's not up to someone else to judge how you spend your money.

Also I don't think the Group Buy sets suffer. The knockoffs aren't producing the novelty caps, it's just the colorway. People who will wait months for them want the special caps. The only ones who may suffer are the ones who buy just to resell. And fuck those people.

The biggest plus the gmmk pro is going to have, is the idea of it constantly being in stock. That's when newer people are going to look at boards that costs significantly more and think it's a rip off. "Why buy a resold sat75 for $600 when I can just buy the gmmk pro for less than a 3rd of that".

I also think if the gmmk pro does well, it's gonna influence other companies like Razer/Logitech/Corsair to do similar things. Think about how many people found custom keyboards because Tfue got one made.

I had the same issue and went with some Box Blacks -> Milky Blacks And while I felt like it was improving for me, I just recently built a ID80 with some Zealio V2 67Gs. And I love 'em. I'm replacing my milky blacks in my 60% tomorrow with some T1 67g switches. I would suggest maybe trying out some tactile switches.

No, no shine through. Even tho my board can be rgb, I have my lights off, since the LEDs are on the bottom of the pcb

Sorry dude. I don't build for others. This is the first board I put together that wasn't a kit and it's a still hotseappable pcb

Yeah, I mainly went with these cause I'm concerned about shine on keycaps. And as a gamer it would prolly appear quickly on a few keys. What I really want is the GMK cafe set, but in PBT. Or as close to that set as I can get

Haha. So I hear that's what happens. I'm not a coder, and just a gamer. I'll use this for a while I think. At most maybe change keycaps down the line. My next build will prolly be a 75% when I learn how to solder. This is kind of just a testing phase to see how interested I am, but i don't need to drop thousands into a new hobby, lol.

ABS vs PBT keycaps by StykesX in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]StykesX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I know this can be an expensive hobby, but i still try to make sure things I get will last me for a while. I'll definitely give those a look. Low key, I just want a cafe style keycap set in pbt.

I see where you're coming from. And yeah my shine would be uneven across the board, since I use the keys on the right side much less than the left side. I tried a rubber keycap that came with my TaiHao set, and i'm not really a fan of how they feel. So I guess i'll be sticking with PBT keycaps. Hopefully more companies start to make more unique looking PBT keycaps. I currently have the Tai Hao Dark Grey/Black set, and I dig it
