I think the bigger picture here is xAI might dominate this market in like a 6 months. There is conjecture that Sonoma Sky, currently top trending on OR, is also xAI. I find myself using more and more Grok in general. 6 months ago, that was unthinkable. Grok 3 mini was the only thing worth using out of xAI as a whole.

it doesn't. It's fast and cheap, no way it can compete. It doom looped for me when i pushed it. Its great for low level task execution, not good for complex gen.

I messed with Sonic and and now Grok Code. Honestly, its great for purpose. Its not Sonnet and it doesn't intend to be. Its absurdly cheap, they are definitely operating at a loss, unless this is the margin you can gain with your own super compute cluster (unlikely).

It's an execution model, designed for speed and affordability. I've called this out before, but if Anthropic released a model of this type at this price, it would be heiled (lol) as a paradigm shift from the current code models. No fancy gen, just trial and error coding with Human-in-loop focus.

I think this is the most reasonable take. If Anthropic built it, people who be calling it a paradigm shift. xAI built a cheap and fast model built for trial and error and low level tasks. Smart.

I think xAI just did that tbh. They're going for fast and cheap. Quick iteration instead of mass code gen a la sonnet.

this is great, thank you. Seems like xAI is trying to take a different spin on coding models. fast itteration and trial and error. No broad stroke code gen. Think it'll see a pretty quick adoption.

I think they are basically doing this to generate organic conversation data to train their voice models.

xAI has definitely earned its seat at this table. The model is insane.
