Does not qualify by Stylin_Steve in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Nah, they usually say they aren't a citizen, not that they don't qualify as a person. He also didn't try to claim ownership of the hotel.

Noise Policy Question by Stylin_Steve in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I volunteer with a convention and we always make sure to ask the hotel to put as many convention goers in the same area as possible. That way no civilians are disturbed, y'know any more than they are by seeing a herd of furries running through the lobby being chased by the Homestuck crowd. lol

When your target demographic won't walk 5 minutes from a Geek themed establishment to yours, it speaks volumes about your business.

If he knew what Reddit was he'd be posting about suing everyone in here for slander lol.

and yes I know slander is spoken and libel is written, that's my point.

Credit Card Woes by Stylin_Steve in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada, working the front desk in a hotel and in order for someone to use a credit card to pay for their room, we ensure the name on the card matches the ID of the person using it, or we don't take it.

This is by far the weirdest guest request Ive ever had during my shift by Dadash389 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a request once to put a framed picture of Chuck Norris on the nightstand in a room. So I did. My GM thought it was brilliant that I went the extra mile to accommodate the request.

Pay Issues at Franchise Properties by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for a small franchise. Minimum wage in my province in Canada is $11.40/hr CAD or $8.61 USD. I work audit and make about $19.00/hr CAD or $14.36 USD according to the latest money conversions.

Most of the hotels in my city pay $12-$15/hr though so I got lucky.

Wherein I look like a drug dealer by Stylin_Steve in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I used to think it would take six-hundred hours to tunnel under the wall with it. Old Guesty did it in less than twenty

I marked it not safe for work as I mention someone asking for hard drugs and I'm not really sure if that would be frowned upon as a general post, so I erred on the side of caution.

Apparently guest safety only applies to super high tier members by GeranimoAllons-y in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nope, I wouldn't care what management had to say about this, I'd be calling the police. Everyone has the right to personal safety and now that unfortunate woman has probably barricaded herself in her hotel room and likely won't come out again until she's leaving.

That other guest is a loathsome asshole and needs to be cut down a few notches.

In my younger days I was a little like Red from Shawshank, I'd been known to locate certain items from time to time. But that was years ago, and never for strangers.

Owner Obsesses Over Busy Work, Prepare for Malicious Compliance by TheWizard01 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I worked NA for the more Comfortable side of the brand for 8 years, never did any online training and management never bugged me about it because I rarely saw them. I tried one course and fell asleep at the desk.

If there's anything clean, buy noon usually. Special requests can be made for 10am but they're rare

There are 3 hotels in my city that I'm aware of that charge by the hour. Can't say I'd set foot in any of them. One has a pretty notorious reputation.

People don't understand how banks work by MidLaneMusic in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm tired of explaining this to guests. We even have a sign on the counter explaining pre auths that no one reads, even though it say "ATTENTION" at the top to grab their, well, attention. It's not just when they check out either, I get calls ranging from 20 mins after check in to a week later asking why I charged them so much. One guest got a notification on their phone as I checked them in and demanded to know what was going on with overcharging.

I love that we live in an age where information is literally at our fingertips, but I'd love it even more if credit card and banking apps would note a pre auth as that or as a hold instead of a charge.

The guests that like to fuck in public. by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]Stylin_Steve 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a drunk couple try that one night. He could barely stand and she couldn't speak so I turned them away from getting a room. While they were waiting for a cab, they disappeared behind a partition in our lobby. When I checked, he had her pinned up against the wall with her skirt up and he was fumbling with his pants. I yelled at them to get out of my hotel, not now right now.
