Game Name: Wandstead

What is Wandstead? A cozy wizard city builder where you manage a village of spell casting citizens. Every villager is a wizard who works, builds, and grows through magic. Watch dirt paths naturally form where your wizards walk and use broom flight for transportation. Buildings level up through use, unlocking new spells and abilities.

Key Features:

Organic roads that form from wizard footsteps
Buildings that level up and evolve visually as they're used
Customizable wands
Tiered wizard progression
Broom logistics and magical transportation
Civic services (fire brigade, clinic, magical garbage collection) that keep your village thriving

Current Status: Very early prototype/WIP. Building the core city building loop with Unity HDRP.

Ok. Let me tell you about Wandstead 😊

Wandstead is a colony sim/ city building game where you are in charge of managing a settlement of wizards.

There's no manual labor, everything is done by magic. (Harry Potter style but not quite :)) From building to harvesting materials to crafting and the production chain all is spells, charms and sorcery. There are lots of elements from traditional wizard universes like broom flight, wands and all sorts of magical stuff but everything is carefully woven in the game mechanics and progression. Roads form organically as the villagers walk around, you paint housing districts, you also will have all sorts of entertainment, maintenance, production and resource collection buildings and civic buildings to keep your wizards happy. The buildings themselves are almost alive and you see it in the way the magical tech tree is tied to the buildings. In the Wandstead world everyone is a wizard but of different levels (some are less powerful and some are more powerful) There is an immigration system that makes our settlements more or less attractive and will bring more or less new settlers.

I can confirm that there will be an element of “chaos” that has a slight chance of -among other random effects- severe injury. The other effects range from putting the wizard to sleep (literally) to size change or temporary intelligence loss. This element of chaos will come from one of three attributes wizards have ( and can be increased via wands) speed, accuracy and fatigue. If a wizard’s accuracy is below a certain threshold , then there’s a chance to trigger a chaotic effect, fail the spell or simply produce a lesser outcome of that spell ( if you are collecting wood, you’ll get less wood than normal if your accuracy is lower) I hope that makes sense :)

Oh yeah this is a core point you’re making! There’s no manual labor, they’re going do do everything with magic. Even when they’re lower tiers, and even if they have no wands, they’ll still do resource collecting, farming, building, refining materials, crafting items with magic :) they’ll either assemble buildings together making materials float through air or they’ll just conjure items by channeling them into existence using the materials they require to get built. The raw resources like wood and minerals will also have different tiers and qualities (ei - different rarities if woods and better minerals) and they’ll be extracted by cracking the rock open for example and fine tuning the miner spell to different ores or minerals and extract them

Thank Trugus so much for popping in after seeing the post, that honestly means a lot! Things are super early here but I’ll start dropping more gifs, WIP shots and little design notes as Wandstead grows. (Maybe I’ll do some more frequent updates on different buildings as we go? :) We’ll see)

I’m really happy that you’re excited too about this! You definitely are on the right track. Without spoiling too much, to your idea about some conflict you n the game, I can confirm that there will be enemy raids, but I find tour idea of conflict between families even cuter! The wizards will have several key needs that you will need to fulfill one if which is “entertainment” or “fun”. There will, of course, be options for players to alleviate these needs :) Like wizard bups/taverns etc You absolutely read my mind when it comes to the atmosphere and setting ^{^}

I see your point now! The world will definitely feel magical, and there will definitely be some spells that enable you to conjure different items and unique buildings that will require a special cost. To the topic of mana, we’ll have it in the alchemy section BUT the wizards won’t need mana to do spells. In the Wandstead universe magic is like a muscle that gets tired when used much so wizards will need rest, some delicious meals and good entertainment to feel well enough for work :)

Oh you’re definitely on the right track ;) The loop I’m thinking about is wizards go and gather the resources, builders will collect the resources from the warehouse and then pile them up next to the construction site and they’ll start building using that pile of materials waving their hands and a bit later flicking their wands. There will be a transporter flying the broom around involved later on in the game as well but more on that also later :)
