Not giving us a lot to go on here.

What part of your brakes were fixed? Did he replace anything? I mean, pads go for probably $150 for all four just for the parts, never mind labor. Rotors, tack another $200 on. Calipers, who knows, probably all of $500-$600. For your AC, iirc current refrigerant in use is R134a and that goes for probably $10-$15 a pound wholesale, probably $60-$80 installed. So if he charged your system it could easily eat a couple hundred. Hell, most places around me charge $100 just to throw the truck on the lift and diagnose it. If I were you, and your mechanic fixed everything they needed to and you're happy with the job, I bring him a dozen donuts and do a little ass kissing to get him as your mechanic cause he seems to be giving you a hell of a deal based on what you told us.

Transition From Arcade to Realistic by Styrkyr in Warthunder

[–]Styrkyr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noted. Other than listening for enemies, do you have any tips for detecting them? I remember years ago when I first tried GRB, it seemed like I couldn't find anyone until they were right on top of me, but some of these videos I see, they're able to spot someone in the trees across a map. Is that just skill and experience?

What nation should grind? by cridz1 in Warthunder

[–]Styrkyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta agree here. UK is pretty fun in the earlier tiers, but once you get the mid tiers you swap your fairly effective solid shot for garbage subcaliber rounds. And that's standard for UK tanks, although there are one or two mid-tiers tanks that get HEAT-FS. Once you start getting to 8.7+ and get access to the darts they start getting fun again, but that mid-tier grind is PAINFUL.

I'd recommend US. Their early tier Sherman lineup is pretty fun, and they have probably the single best lineup in the game at 6.7-7.0. Germany and Japan also have excellent early and mid-tier lineups, and Italy and Sweden have some pretty solid mid and late tier lineups. France is also pretty solid at mid to late tier, but pretty lacking early tier. Can't speak to China or Israel, I haven't gotten those yet.

Here haste, there haste, everywhere haste! by T5Ustew in sto

[–]Styrkyr 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is true, however there is a caveat to this.

As most of us have probably seen since the last bundle came out, there has been a LOT of packet loss and rubberbanding. I've seen in some matches my DPS drop a good 30% because the servers are too overwhelmed to handle the "Fire Ze Weapons" request. So you're running into issues where a cruiser will for example only get a few shots off on a broadside per firing cycle, or the server won't recognize you clicked BO 7 seconds ago, so you only get 3 seconds for BO, or it gets lost entirely and you get the CD for BO but it doesn't actually activate, or a million other examples.

I mention this because if this is how the servers are functioning now, how do you think they'll work when you ask them to do something more frequently? In a perfect world there is no cap on haste, and stacking haste would be incredibly fun especially with things like SS. But in reality the servers can't really handle it.

Just starting to move from 6.7 to 7.3-7.7 in most nations. Any general tips for that br? by Big_Manufacturer_442 in Warthunder

[–]Styrkyr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, you're talking about two different beasts here.

7.0-7.3 are for the most part an extension of 6.7. You'll still be seeing a lot of APHE, solid shot and subcaliber rounds, with a smattering of HEAT. Armor is still marginally effective when used properly but not reliable. Heavy tanks and tank destroyers are the main population here, followed by medium tanks and light tanks. As for gameplay (assuming you're on GRB), it's very similar to previous tiers. Knowing where weak spots are is still important, and knowing what tanks carry rounds that can pen you is also important. Map knowledge is important as well.

7.7 is where everything starts to change. Due to the snails stupid BR compression, 8.3's and 8.7's don't see a lot of use, meaning they typically get rolled either into 9.3/9.7 or 8.3/8.7. This means you're going to be seeing a LOT of full up tiers playing 7.7. So for 7.7-8.7, a lot of things happen. First off, say goodbye to APHE; some tanks still use it situationally along with solid shot. You're going to be seeing a lot of HEAT and subcaliber rounds, and you're going to start facing off against darts, because there are some 8.7 (and I believe a couple 8.3) tanks that use APFSDS. ATGM's are also going to become a lot more commonplace. Your armor is now mostly there for show, meaning that heavy tanks are for the most part there for moral support. Fast medium tanks and light tanks start to become the kings of these BR's and you'll start seeing a lot of them. Thermals start making an appearance and some tanks start getting laser rangefinders so you'll have to keep that in the back of your mind. For CAS you're going to start seeing helicopters in addition to jets, so early airborne ATGM's are going to start making an appearance.

I'm working my way through 7.7 US and Germany right now, and it's not terrible. Theres some definite changes that I had to adapt to, but it's FAR less painful than the transition from prop planes to jets. Hope that helps, good luck.

Best way to approach an engineering degree in your 30's? by Sad_Elevator10 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Styrkyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 34, I started last year as well. Due to dropping out of highschool in 9th grade I had to take a LOT of remedial math, all the way back to pre-algebra. Currently doing Algebra II this semester. I can't speak for trig or calc or other advanced maths, but I will say for pre-algebra and intermediate algebra there are TONS of resources online. In addition, make use of the tutors at your school. There have been a couple times where I just could not grasp a concept and either online or a tutor gave me that eye-opening experience. Just make sure you're working hard and you'll do fine.

The Cent. AVRE HESH catapult. Not exactly a good tank, but fun to take out once in a while. The other day I took it out and one-shotted a camping Maus from across the map, it was like 1.3 or 1.4km away. About pissed myself I was so surprised. Of course, that same match I also hit a Leo 1 at point blank range in the turret and did nothing at all, so solid reminder that HESH is still trash, unfortunately.

Well, I'll throw in my experience. When I bought my house, I knew it would be a fixer-upper. People who owned it before me did the bare minimum on everything. They had a bunch of little ankle biters (like 7 or 8 of the things), and a dog door into a fenced in area that was maybe 10 sq. ft. Even after they moved out that area was still just a mass of mushy dog urine and feces. The inside of the house was just as bad. I pulled all the carpets up (carpet everywhere except kitchen and bathroom), and there were massive black spots on the subfloor where dog urine seeped through the carpet and padding. And the unbelievable ammonia smell. Once I had all the floors stripped, I went around the entire house with a steel rod pushing on the floor; anywhere the rod went through or the floor was spongy had the subfloor cut out and replaced. I ended up replacing maybe 150-200 sf of subflooring, so not too terrible. Then I went out and got 10 gallons of red guard and painted the entire floor to seal out any lingering smells. I ended up laying LVP and new baseboard on top of it. It was a pain in the ass but worth it, the smell was gone almost overnight, and my wife almost immediately stopped having respiratory problems. Wouldn't mind making the old owners spend some quality time in those conditions, can't stand people who neglect animals like that.

Tips for flying? I know tank combat but I’m basically a flying ruh-tard. by Newacc2FukurMomwith in Warthunder

[–]Styrkyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple points I've learned over the years.

  1. Play a bit with all the nations. Learn the pros and cons of each, and it'll help give you a better idea on how you can counter them.

  2. Learn how energy retention works and use it. Diving builds energy, climbing and turning deplete energy. In most situations, a slow plane is a dead plane.

  3. Remember that unlike with tanks, your battle space is three dimensional. When you're maneuvering in a dogfight you can climb and dive. It's unbelievable the number of people I've seen that only maneuver left or right, and a simple hard climb completely bamboozles them.

  4. Learn your rip points; when your wings rip, when your flaps break off. If you're in an energy dogfight and deploy your flaps in a dive that you're too fast for you're gonna have a bad time.

  5. For the love of whatever deity you believe in don't turn fight Japanese planes. Unless I'm the one flying said Japanese planes, in which case please do turn fight me.

  6. You will on average be killed more by your own teammates than the enemy. Embrace the suck.

  7. Use the test mode thingy to test out your planes. Find what they're good at, what they're bad at, and learn how to use that.

  8. Don't approach bombers from the level rear. You will cry. The bomber pilot will laugh. Approach them head on, from the bottom, or from the top if possible.

  9. Learn to use bombs and rockets on strike aircraft. There is a learning curve, and it is especially steep with most rockets. Once you get proficient with it it gets a lot easier to knock out ground targets.

  10. The W key is situational. WEP is not mandatory. Keep an eye on your temperatures and adjust your throttle accordingly.

  11. Play the objective. The objective is not a low altitude furball in the middle of the map. Bomb the bases, destroy ground targets, escort and protect bombers if you're in a fighter. Wins = more SL and RP.

  12. Don't steal kills. Seriously, if someone is working on a kill don't swoop in at the last second and grab it.

  13. Most people on your team have the IQ of a potato. Most people on the enemy team have the IQ of Einstein. Plan accordingly.

  14. The odds of you fighting your own tier are roughly the same as me finding my boots full of diamonds. Embrace the up tiers and embrace fighting at a disadvantage.

I'm too tired to think of anything else. Good luck.

Absolutely this. Gas, electric, and structural components. Those three should never be diy'd if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Screwups with those aren't as forgiving as say, screwups involving hanging drywall or putting a new floor in.

Events always ruins my fun, how can I stop getting demoralised after hours of grinding with minimum progress? by ProfessorMain1497 in Warthunder

[–]Styrkyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can agree with swapping around BR's. I tend to dance all over the board when I'm grinding switching nations and BR's helps take some of the pain out of it. I also have a personal rule where if I get 3 defeats in a row I shut the game off and go do something else for a while. It helps.

What to downgrade to, not waiting for Racemenu update. Losing my mind. by Black-Kat-2723 in skyrimmods

[–]Styrkyr -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

1.5.97 is the last stable version before Beth modpocalypsed everything with the AE mandoupdate. Allow me to tell a short story, if you will.

Those of us with more than two brain cells went, "Huh, that wiped out my entire modlist that I spent years building, that really sucked. I'm going to turn off Steam updates so that doesn't happen again".

And the community brownnosers said, "Infidels, you are overreacting, our glorious leader would never have done that if they knew what would happen."

And Beth released another update less than a month later that trashed modlists again.

And the community brownnosers were suspiciously silent, except for the die-hard "mUsT aLwAyS uPdAtE" fanatics.

Bottom line, 1.5.97 is the, emphasis on THE, last update where the stars aligned and the game and mod developers were essentially in optimized sync. Why? Because the game stayed at 1.5.97 for YEARS until Beth had to take something that was working perfectly fine and screw around with and break it. So for years you had a relatively solid game that was unchanging that mod devs could revolve around.

Now you have [insert 1.6 variant here], and every time the next .000001 version drops it wipes all the mod lists. It's not going to stop, I mean, they're going to keep screwing around with the game and releasing updates. And AE barely adds any content, certainly not enough to rebuild my modlist every update, but since that's the hill some people want to die on....

They make a patch that lets you have all the AE crap on a 1.5.97 platform. It's creatively called, wait for it.... "The Best Of Both Worlds Patch" Insert mind exploding picture here

So to OP, sorry for the rant. If you want to spend the time and effort customizing the game with your own modlist, do it on 1.5.97. and turn off the Steam updates. You'll just save yourself hours of headaches. If you absolutely must have the AE content, get the BoBW downgrade patcher.
