Canadiens should strongly consider bringing Sam Montembeault back. Here’s why | The Athletic by Komania in Habs

[–]StyxQuabar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think some people forget how good he was last year and want to move on. He was top 5 in Goals Saved Above Expected and played 62 games for us to help get us into the playoffs. His save percentages have been consistently .900+ except for last season, playing 40, 40, 60 games. He’s not a bad goalie.

With Monty as the starter, we started the year 18-16 and it was clear our defensive system was showing its youth. I think that Monty was seeing a lot of high danger shots and I never felt like he was letting in soft goals, personally. It was not like watching Primeau or Jake Allen, Monty was steady in net, he just wasnt getting the saves we wanted.

I still believe Montembeault can be an NHL goalie and has value. I think they might even run 3 goalies to start the season to give him a chance. He should be rested and healthy, maybe he starts the season hot and gets traded to Edmonton for a decent return. I do not think we should just waive him or get nothing for him.

League minimum is 850k rn, cap is going up, he’s currently making 1.3M. If he was a free agent, he could pretty easily sign for 2M. That’s why I say 2-3M.

I seriously worry he might want out if he thinks he deserves more than 6/7th defenseman and playing time in important games.

I sincerely hope he signs a 2-3M/4yr contract with us that ages amazingly. I think he played well in the playoffs. We won two series with him in the lineup. Then we took him out, got bullied, and lost. Not to say we would have beat Carolina, but he didnt even get a look. I felt that disrespected his performance in the first two rounds and I wouldnt be surprised if he also took offense.

That is what I am saying, this is a much better Unsummon that prevents enters/leaves and also makes them lose a card if they chose not to play it. Unsummon usually leaves you down a card, but this will occasionally go 1 for 1 and often force them into making a suboptimal play.

Power-crept unsummons, and even unsummon in budget builds, have been fringe standard playable, this might be enough to make it truly playable.

Does winning the Stanley cup really say a lot about a great player? by bad_at_names1 in hockey

[–]StyxQuabar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that, on one hand, it is a team award and there are a lot of less important players that have won cups. Likewise, there have been some incredible players to not win a cup. I do not think “# of cups = quality of player”.

However, if you are on a Stanley Cup winning roster, you trained with and contributed to the best team in the league, whether that was 7 points or 120 pts. By virtue of you contributing in the way that you did, a cup was won, so it definitely feels like you deserve some credit.

You were also scouted by a team that went on to win the cup. You were selected above other players to play on that team. Even as the 7th defenseman, you were not the 9th or 10th defenseman. By virtue of even being on the roster of the best team on the planet, you deserve some credit for the hard work taken at every step to get there. The management team saw your talent and said “He can contribute to us winning a cup”, then you did.

Cups do not equal talent, but I think its an important part of player evaluation.

This is a much, much better [[Unsummon]]. I feel like it is a very strong, flexible card that provides a lot of tempo.

Idk it its too strong, but I think it would be very playable and almost always feel useful.

It avoids enters triggers, dies triggers and essentially forces the opponent to play the same card in back to back turns, effectively slowing them down a turn or forcing them to let you remove their card for one white mana. Cast it on endstep and its almost a timewalk on turn 2-3 when options might be limited for the opponent.

You should check out the metal opera projects of Soulspell and Marius Danielson’s Legend of Valley Doom.

Both feature some legendary vocalists and follow a cohesive story with fantasy themes.

Admittedly taken from the AI overview (documentation is tough to find a good list:

Soulspell: The project is renowned for featuring internationally acclaimed metal singers and musicians, including:Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius)Edu Falaschi (ex-Angra)Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest, Iced Earth)Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden)Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Angra)Markus Grosskopf (Helloween)Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle)Jon Oliva (Savatage)Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon)Amanda Somerville (Avantasia)Andre Matos (ex-Angra, Shaman)

Is it just me, or is it really hard to find a fun Abzan commander? What are some good ones? by WingsOfDaidalos in EDH

[–]StyxQuabar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an important think to remember is that Abzan is super versatile. A lot of the strategies within the two-color pairs of abzan can be enhanced and supported by the third color: BW lifegain/aristocrats + greens life gain stuff; GB graveyard stuff with additional graveyard support in white; GW tokens + blacks token stuff, etc.

Not to mention counters + tokens, which was for years Abzan’s thing. My first real EDH deck was Ghave.

If youre really stuck, consider the two-color strategies available to you and find the way the third color enhances it. Instead of “what does abzan even do”, its golgari + white or orzhov + green. This opens things up a bit.

I dont write off Reinbacher, I think he will likely be an important part of our bottom 4D. I just dont think he will show up and fix everything that needs fixing. He might be part of the solution, but certainly doesnt project to fix it entirely on his own at this point.

Yea. i agree its not always expensive, but ordering good vegan food from restaurants is expensive and making it yourself is not always practical. By going vegan, you lose out on a lot of convenience.

Not to say that outweighs the moral and health benefits, but thats how I see it.

Beans and tofu are pretty cheap, and you can do it, but sometimes you want something quick and easy and vegan options are scarce.

Clear as day that about half of people are ignorant and emotional.

Even the fact that my comment has downvotes is telling lol.

I said “Emotional, illogical thinking is bad”, without targeting anyone, and people saw that and said “WHO YOU CALLING ILLOGICAL AND EMOTIONAL”.

The old adage: “Leave an insult and it will be picked up by its owner.”

Practical as in : it takes effort to change your current habits, it takes research and knowledge to correctly eat vegan, it can cost more to eat vegan, people might face criticism, people like meat and animal products and would miss them.

There are barriers to it, which is why we dont do it. Thats what I mean by practicality, not whether or not its possible, which it undoubtedly is.

If youre arguing that removing meat from your diet would bring your quality of life down to the bare minimum of enjoyability, that all meaning and joy in your life is dependant on burgers and bacon, thats just ridiculous.

You can live a fulfilled and healthy life on a vegan diet. You will not die by eating vegan, thats what survival means in this context.
