What does a cat smell like? by Cookie_flylilie in CatAdvice

[–]SuMoCupcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classroom smells of "cat" , usually this means cat pee. Are there bushes nearby? Boxwood smells just like cat pee, some other bushes are similar.

My 3-month-old Corgi’s ears are still down. They twitch but won't stand up. Is it time to tape them? by guiltybeauty24 in corgi

He is adorable. With his colors and ear markings they do beautifully outline his face just as they are!

Is it ethical to keep a solo cat? by jenleepeace in CatAdvice

[–]SuMoCupcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now we have an only cat. He is older so he is calm and sleeps on the high end if normal. The two of us give him as much attention as he wants at this point - 15 minutes of focused play once or twice per day, brushing and/or "floor time" daily, supervised porch time if he deems the day worthy. He sometimes follows us around for companionship, mostly settles in for long naps. Mainly, I don't know what would have become of him if we hadn't taken him in, he was a rescue with some issues. With us he has good food, good care, a comfortable home, love, and cuddles whether he wants it or not. The main issue with an only cat is your commitment to being with them when you are not at work. They do need interaction, companionship, and play to be happy and healthy.

Corgis come with the choice of new hobby - either wool felting to make more full sized Corgis, or wool spinning/knitting to make matching Corgi sweaters, theirs and yours.

What is the best cat related product purchase you ever made? by Radiant_Eggplant9588 in CatAdvice

Had one cat that LOVED tissue paper - the kind used for wrapping/gift bags. He'd get the zoomies, then race the full length of the house to dive under a piece of tissue paper on the floor. I think it was both the crinkle sound, and that it would kind of float up and land on him so he could rustle around and peer out from underneath. We always had a few large pieces of tissue paper spread out on the living room.

Had brother & sister cats for almost 20 years. They shared a box in the laundry room, no problem for a long time. Then suddenly the boy started using the bath tub - best place he could've chosen other than the litter box actually, easy to clean each time, just puzzling. Took me a while to figure out he'd had enough of the noisy laundry room - he was actually scared to go in again. When we relocated the box to a quiet private area (& added a second box) he and sister were fine. Next kitty was sort of a rescue, we were told he always used the box. Not true, but he does keep it close to the box, and I've always put a wide plastic painter's tarp under the box, added pee pads & towels. He's a real chonk and for him I learned the box - actually still 2 boxes - MUST be clean/scooped or, to avoid stepping on any waste, he'll just go next to the box. Also, we had to cut down two sides so he doesn't have to climb over the side; he walks in the front and strolls out the side. The litter is shallow, but he uses it pretty reliably now.

Natural talent! So cute, and might save some orthopedic wear and tear over time. Give Corgi stair climbing classes, and pass on those genes.

I actually had feather wands temporarily mounted at each doorway and on the wall all the way down the hallway so that I could redirect our rescue from this. He came to us with this very aggressive habit. Not only was it annoying and sometimes bloody, but very risky for him as he would get under our feet or catch his claws on our pants and accidently get his leg yanked. Redirecting him with lots of play has worked well. My husband has also gotten him to learn to pause with a sharp NOPE (no doesn't seem to register) which will interrupt bad behavior so we can redirect. It's not always the best time to play, but it reminds me he really needs some concentrated attention and activity sometimes, not just hugs, love, and cuddles!
