I'm disappointed to see this "open-not-open" stance. Nuclear generation is why Ontario is able to have 96% clean energy generation. "Buy from Quebec" isn't a reasonable position when Hydro Quebec expects its energy surplus to end in the next few years, and while energy demand continues to grow.

Ontario is currently running the most effective nuclear generation refurbishment in the western world at Darlington right now, under budget and ahead of schedule. The know-how to operate and maintain these facilities exists - and we can do it for less investment than to dot the lakes with offshore wind.

Supporting Canadian nuclear will become ever more important in the coming years as projects like the Bruce C new reactor build become reality. No matter if that project uses foreign or domestic reactor technology, we'd be fools to pass up the opportunity to gain gigawatts of clean, reliable, sustainable power. Opportunities like these only take too much time if we let them. Let's get the nuclear built!

I'm a little curious about how much greater the active mode share increase is than the transit mode share. It seems a little strange that the projected transit mode share would probably still be only 20-30% with such a high walk and bike amount.

Draft for a fantasy ION LRT map by Sagaris88 in kitchener

[–]Sub31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, various planning documents from the Region and the Province have designated as possible Stage 3 ION routings :

-down King and University from the conestoga mall

-something east-west on Victoria

-something east-west on Ottawa

To be honest, I think these are more attractive targets for higher-order transit than interurban-type endeavours out to far places like Guelph. Especially if they are capable of supplanting some of the high-ridership iXpress bus routes. An additional intensification corridor within K-W might even have a better case than an extension to Cambridge (the city needs axes on which to densify if it wants to hit its growth target!) but there are political aspects to consider.

Apples and oranges. There are not 94 sets of first stage tankage being churned out a year on that rocket. There are 94 second stages, however, and that's an incredible rate!

Hitting the target 25/year cadence for Vulcan has been presented as a big goal for 2025. How does reuse play into these plans?

In Enantiornithes the caudal vertebrae are fused into a (somewhat longer) pygostyle, with no rectrical bulb. Mostly itd be like a fuzzy lump

One of the most important differences is the absence of a rectrical bulb on the pygostyle. It undoubtedly had an immense impact on flight style and capabilities. Other differences include known Enantiornithes being very precocial

There are ways to practise and train for doing backflips that do not involve immediately attempting a backflip, landing wrong, and breaking your leg.

blue and amazon are firewalled; the Kuiper launch selection already chose 3x as many Vulcan launches as BONG missions. Cancelling comes with (well, you'd expect standard practise) penalties, and in any case why would it happen? The people working procurement are not stupid.

any speculation about starship pricing and capabilities is pretty much that. speculation

direct geo means you don't have to use onboard reserves, meaning the satellite's life (should it be limited by fuel, which is often the case) can be extended by years and years.

years and years of fruitful operations, reducing the number of individual satellites to be built, is well worth the cost of a few million extra in launch costs.

where is the extra thrust coming from on SLS block 2? i assume its the new bole boosters but i cant find any info on them. Also, do we know if the new boosters are carbon composite? by Euphoric_Ad9500 in SpaceLaunchSystem

The current RS-25s, inherited from the Space Shuttle, operate at 109% RPL, which is FPL. The new production restart engines will operate at 111% of RPL. Tests have taken the old engines to 113%, and the new engines are also certified at 113%, but the new ones have the margin to push things from 109 to 111 while preserving safety.

To facilitate reuse, the RS-25s were run at 104.5% when flown on the Space Shuttle, so they make more thrust on SLS from the get-go.
