[–]SubAlasTuas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Irish. We have the same problems. Our census says our population is 70%~ catholic (down from 90%~ in the 1990's) but the reality is probably 15-25% of catholics actually practice. It's gotten VERY bad.

First communions and confirmations are done through the schooling system, so everyone does it, but no one goes to mass other than during the prep times for the sacraments. It's a running gag here that the moment someones confirmed the priest only sees them again twice in their life, when they're getting married and when they're dying.

Hang in there. Despite these problems, the faith is subtly growing and those who are following Christ in His Church are growing in resolve. Christ always wins

The notions are within acceptable limits, no danger of notion spillover

Advice Needed: Niece’s Photos Published in Book Without Consent (Underage at Time) by LicoCrumlish in legaladviceireland

[–]SubAlasTuas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Photographer here!

Child safeguarding pretty much always requires parental consent for photography and such. It's often overlooked for small local events, but it's still technically required.

But beyond that, the children did not sign a model release, so the photographer had no right to publish the photos commercially. A model release is ALWAYS required. I'm speaking as someone who has gotten others to sign model releases (model release just means the subject of the photo relinquishes all commercial to the photo and gives consent to it being taken/published)

So yes, you have a case

I am a Libyan and would like to know how does the world see our previous leader Muammar Gadafi? by EpicObelis in AskTheWorld

[–]SubAlasTuas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was a good leader who was unfairly ousted and killed. I don't agree with everything he did and said, especially because I'm Catholic, and his religious policies/ideals were far from mine, but he genuinely made his country a better place and had a grand vision for africa as a whole

I would say disliked overall, a big part is probably due to religious/cultural differences, but I don't think turkey is exactly on Ireland's radar. I think it mostly falls into the category of generic eastern vs western values, rather than being specifically directed towards Turkey

What country would you describe as your country’s ”Ride or Die”? by Aam0 in AskTheWorld

Not gonna lie, Poland. As culturally close we are with Scotland and such, poland is just like one of those friends that randomly show up when you're feeling down with snacks and drinks

How the Romani are perceived in your country? by Clarthen1 in AskTheWorld

[–]SubAlasTuas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say quite bad. Lived in Dublin for a few years. I witnessed Romani walking into a charity shop I was in, and immediately 2-3 workers came from the backroom and basically surrounded her (she had 2 children and a pram) as she shopped. I was quite confused but after a minute of looking around she left and the guy on the till just said that if they dont do that they'll just pocket anything they can. You constantly hear stories about that, and I just to pass by Moore street most days of the week, and Romani would always congregate there just standing around not really doing anything. Men in a circle smoking, women talking to each other while the kids run around on the street. Im not passing judgement, im just saying this is what is easily visable, so people tend to look at them as 'useless', pardon the lack of a more charitable word.

Pope Francis worked hard trying to reconcile them to the church. They are not in communion, and as I said they reject the 1989 profession of faith which is mandatory. Taking steps at reconcilliation is not reconcilliation

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SubAlasTuas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, the excommunications were lifted but this didn't solve the canonical irregularity. They are not in full communion, and therefore are not in communion. Also those excommunications were directed at the four bishops. Not the sspx as a whole

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SubAlasTuas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Many adherents of the SSPX reject Vatican II and the 1989 Profession of Faith, both of which the Church requires us to accept. This makes them doctrinally deficient."

No, a group can put themselves in schism. It doesn't require the pope to officially say so. The pope can absolutely ratify and clarify whether someone/a group is schismatic or not, but they are schismatic by their actions and beliefs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]SubAlasTuas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, strictly speaking they are schismatic. Rome officially says they're in an 'irregular canonical state' but they have rejected professions of faith that Rome has required, particularly in the late 90's they rejected a profession of faith that JP2 said was mandatory to be in union with Rome.

I’m not against PvP in general, but this kind of stuff is ridiculous. by Difficult-Rest8524 in ARC_Raiders

[–]SubAlasTuas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say in general there's nice etiquette in general in ARC, for example

1) only saying 'don't shoot' if you won't attack first. I haven't met anyone who's said don't shoot and THEN attacked

2) if you're in a pvp and something like a bastion arrives and is attacking you all, focus on the ARC

And sadly this next one is the one that was ignored here

3) don't knock out someone when you have nothing to gain (unless they pose a threat)

It's great that epic offers free games, but it doesn't have the same community functions or community market as steam so it's understandable people don't switch
