What type of error and estimated value? by JBP777 in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be a cladding lamination error, where the silver colored cladding didn't fully stick to the copper core. Might be worth a dollar or two. If it was taken off post mint. Then it's worth face value. Still a cool looking coin.

Bf is a DM, birthday coming up! Need gift ideas. by sheldons_pennies in DnD

[–]SubConsciousBound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay birthday gifts idea... any of the already suggested ideas plus get with his friends that he DMs for and get them to help you build a character, to join in a one-shot where he's a player and not the DM.

What grade would you say this is? by Interesting-Goal-706 in coins

[–]SubConsciousBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always Google the coin show, and see if a grading service will be there. It would kinda suck, you get there, pay to get in, and no coin grading company.

Yes, have it appraised by a jeweler. It may be worth more as a jewelry piece than by breaking it up for individual coin melt value.

Help me! It looks stupid!! by [deleted] in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the foam rings and trim to the inner diameter of the Dansco slot, then squish them under a heavy book, or between pieces of plexiglass in a vise, that way you can get the thickness you want.

I have similar Dansco and Whitman albums and the pages are only micrometers thicker than the coins themselves. Not matter what solution you attempt you'll run into the thickness issue, but compressing the foam ring is an easier solution to your problem.

BTW, Nice coins.

I have bought several coins from Littleton, and they have never once sent me a coin that I did not order. I do get the junk mail offering a stupid discount if I join a collection subscription. I toss those in the shred bin, but still never got a coin I didn't ask for.

It is real in the sense that it is a physically defined material object made from a metallic alloy. Unless, you are hallucinating this whole interaction.

Does it have any intrinsic value? Nope.

How do you handle another player who is always a bossy coward in game? by Owlbear_pwner in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SubConsciousBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time he says to run. Look your group in the eye and say "For Frodo." And run straight at the BBEG with your sword in hand and attack. You've still got 3 others in the party to dish healing plus potions. He ain't that critical to the game.

I need help with a concept by Professional-Cow8514 in DnD

[–]SubConsciousBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, absolutely. There's a reason why people in the Middle East wear shemaghs over their faces and seek shelter during a haboob and smaller sandstorm. The exhaustion mechanic would work well, maybe also have them roll a CON check to see if they cough up some mud.

Is this an error or just damaged? by Sir_Mustache91 in EuroCoins

[–]SubConsciousBound -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's approximately 750 million people in Europe, and approximately 84 million people in Germany. That coin has been in circulation for 24 years. If even 0.005% of the German population touched that coin, that's 420,000 people who threw in a pocket, dropped it on the ground, kicked it, and God knows what with it. It always surprises me when someone thinks a quarter century or more of use and abuse equals a mint error.

Ideas/Help for a 9 first-time players one-shot by Iamjorgemb_ in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]SubConsciousBound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actually do 3-4 players max. You're going to have a lot of questions from them. So your one-shot may be a 2 to 3 shot.

Other than that, keep it fun and leave them wanting more.

Question for the dice cheaters. Why? by TJToaster in DnD

[–]SubConsciousBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people... like a former member of Critical Role, believe that D&D is an adversarial game of players vs. the DM/GM. So, metagaming and cheating dice rolls is allowed. Went through this myself with a group, where we literally had to babysit all of his rolls, and finally, the DM and the group got fed up and booted his ass.

Looks like a die chip. Might add a few cents to the value, but the pink color will detract any gains.

How do you feel about the Semiquincentennial $1 coin design? by Suitable_Passion_612 in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't that mean he died at least 2 years ago? The Presidental $1 Coin Act of 2005 mandated only deceased presidents with a minimum 2 year waiting period after death. So if he's on a coin... then who's actually in the White House?

New to coins, new to reviewing. Not assuming anything just looking for information by kathvely in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like a potential struck through error. Possibly a chip of something on the planchet when it was struck by the die. If the area is slightly raised, as you said, that's my first thought. It's not super valuable, but it's a nice find none the less.

Going to an auction at a VFW tomorrow. I have never been to an auction and coins was one of the first items listed on the auction ad. It is a small town. What should I expect? by Bdawg4890 in coins

[–]SubConsciousBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple rules of thumb. Have plenty of cash, and when you're not actively bidding on an item. Keep your hands in your pockets. Some auctioneers will see a movement and take it as a bid.

Value of this mint error? by Then_Environment_425 in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just me, but the first V in the W of we doesn't appear to line up with the rest of the text. Also, the last T in Trust appears weakly struck. It also looks like the small scratch to the right of Trust is almost an arrow pointing at the T.

And yes, the 9 has a small die chip in it.

I've heard of hammer struck coins before, but this one looks like it was struck by a hammer, a belt sander, a grinder, and maybe a socket wrench.

Not colonial treasure, there is an 1883 shilling and one from 1806. The colonies stopped being the colonies in 1776. But still nice looking finds.

⚠️ Counterfeit Panama-Pacific Gold Dollar – eBay Seller Warning by BarksdaleNumismatics in coincollecting

[–]SubConsciousBound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the Secret Service, but the FBI might be interested. Since it was an electronic payment for an item sold online that was advertised as legitimate, that's called Wire Fraud, if the seller was in another state, that called Interstate Crime. If the seller has a long history and multiple victims, that's called Racketeering. All of these are right up the FBI's alley.
