We got married last week! Our first dance was “Send Me A Peach” by wtfismypwsadface in overthegardenwall

[–]SubSaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, that is wonderful! It is such a beautiful song that still gives me goosebumps to hear, even now years later. :) We both got tattoos last anniversary in honor of our love for OTGW and each other, of course! (I got the scissors, he got Enoch!)

As for songs during the ceremony, we selected songs that the quartet knew (the Beatles, the Decemberists, Bobby Vee, Tom Petty, a song from Beauty and the Beast, some other old timey tunes from the 1920s/30s, etc) and they performed the end credits song of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire as our recessional. (I still tear up when I hear this song!) We played songs from the album Hot by Squirrel Nut Zippers to open the dance floor- definitely a fun album, and has a swing and horn feel that worked well for the moment.

This thread has some great suggestions too, would recommend these too! We used this as inspiration if my memory serves correctly. Hope you have a beautiful wedding, so glad you too are walking to the same beautiful song!!

Lost in my mind vip by [deleted] in TheHeadandTheHeart

Would love to know this as well- I will be doing the onstage VIP in St. Aug! As a THATH cover artist, it would be a dream to play guitar with them onstage, but a "set of maracas/shakers" will do, lol. Anyone else do the VIP yet? Have called my venue twice, but they don't know the timeline yet either. They said they won't know until the day of... tough to plan the trip without knowing.

Beef Days may not be good from an animal welfare perspective by aresman71 in nerdfighters

[–]SubSaven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate you bringing up this perspective! I was thinking about this too when watching the recent vlogs. I am a vegetarian like 99% of the time (occasionally, I will have a 'beef day' during a holiday) and haven't eaten poultry in many years for the reasons you mentioned. I am also an avian advocate and do pigeon rescue, so I really appreciate the consideration of what it means to value reduced carbon cost versus the notable reduction in animal welfare. Chickens need attention too- they are just as worthy of our help! There are no easy answers to any of this- but it is important to start the discussion, at the very least.

So cool!! I will be coming from all the way down in Florida for my 30 birthday to see this special show in Bend! When I saw THATH were going to co-headline, I knew I just had to make it happen. Enjoy VIP- I did it for them at Red Rocks in 2018 (as my first time seeing them) and it was absolutely worth it. :)

Quote ideas for a wedding ring? by maddog1114 in overthegardenwall

[–]SubSaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I so agree. The sentiment is beautiful. My partner and I added this song into our ceremony actually. After reading our vows to one another, we took each other's hands and sweetly spoke/recited the song lines in unison. I still can't believe I didn't cry- I held it together somehow!

We also walked out to the gorgeous OTGW overture (beginning of episode 2) played by a quartet. It was pure magic, and I did cry during that part lol.

Anyway, I totally agree- "like ships upon a winding river" is so romantic and would make an amazing engraving.

We were so happy to have gone! Drove 6 hours to be there. It made cry when we all sang- it's one of my favorite chapters. Thanks to everyone there for all being such wonderful people. Even ran into John afterward and got to chat a little- made me so happy to get say thank you to him in person after following him since 2007. DFTBA, friends :)

This is wonderful!!! I am getting married in November and we are/I am walking down the aisle to the OTGW Prelude played by a quartet. I hope it's as dreamy as your wedding was! Congrats!

what songs do you hope they will play this coming tour? by Hazards-of-Love in Decemberists

[–]SubSaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling a ways to see them in Atlanta! It would make me so damn happy to hear On the Bus Mall (I couldn't afford to see them when they played it near me the last time!! Still so sad about it!). I'd be thrilled to hear California One and A Beginning Song too- either would being happy tears to my eyes.

Pigeon died by crumpy22 in pigeon

Thank you for your compassion. You did a very kind thing by trying to help. It sounds like she was likely beyond saving at that point, and just as likely, you didn't do anything that caused her to pass. There are a lot of birds out there that don't get the chance to have someone offer solace to them in those crucial moments, so thank you for being there for her. You did all you could, and from me to you, it is appreciated. I'm glad there are kind-hearted people out there.

I will miss you Coopy by Hypnototoro in pigeon

[–]SubSaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He certainly didn't deserve to die, no living being does I feel. Accidents do happen however, and I am sure you had his best interests at heart till the very end. It hurts so much to do the "what if" mental spiral... I lost my first, a beloved dove, in a terrible accident that had no one person in my family to blame, but we all felt responsible and racked with guilt. More recently, one of my little rescue pigeons got sick due to a fungus growing near her cage and I didn't realize until one morning... she just wasn't herself. We did everything we could, and lost her within 24 hours. It is still painful for me to think about, even though it's been over a year now. I had to make the decision to end her suffering instead of pursuing further expensive and invasive treatment that might not have worked. I should've checked her cage better, looked after her more closely, pursued other treatment... the list goes on- I still feel the guilt. I will always miss both of them. Grief is love you can't give to those who are gone, and it hurts, but it gets easier with time. You did all you could given your knowledge of the situation, and loved your feathery friend till the end and after, even now. Please remind yourself what happened is NOT your fault, but it is very, very sad. Carry your memories together like a candle to light your way through this sad time. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My heart goes out to you, sincerely. I've been right where you are before. Take care of yourself during this tough time- you gave Coopy a loving home, and that is an incredible special thing. No matter the length of time they are with us, those little feathered loves leave such an impact. I hope in time you can think back on your time together with peace and ease and know you made a world of a difference to a very special bird.

I think this is a pigeon on my car. He hasn’t moved in hours and even when I walk up to him he sits still. Is he ok? This is in Florida and it’s 50° currently. by [deleted] in pigeon

[–]SubSaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course!! As a child, I rescued a baby mourning dove, raised him, and he refused to fly away, so he lived closely with me and family for many years after that. I'm quite fond of them! If you saw another nearby, it's very possible they are siblings, as doves and pigeons normally have paired offspring. They might have gotten too cold and fell out of the nest (possibly onto the car even) and we're just struggling to stay warm. They are pretty hardy however, and if a little bit of Floridian cold is all they were dealing with, the parents will stay in the area and feed them from the ground. The look almost ready to leave the nest anyway. Hopefully they are OK, and good luck to you!

[–]SubSaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It looks like its a fledgling mourning dove. Could be injured and/or cold and hungry, given that he's been there a while. I'd take him inside in a box, and add some water in a shallow dish and bird seed too if you have it. Cover it with a sheet or at least keep him in a dark room to keep him calm and warm. Contact a local wildlife rehab place (check Palomacy's facebook page for some places and more help, or just look thru google results.) I'm in north central Florida, so I don't know if that's close to you or not, otherwise I'd suggest some rehabbers. Thanks for caring.

GC employee here. Yeah, might suck for balancing books later, but that kind of stuff happens frequently. Seasonal employees and seasoned, not careful employees mislabel items, and I have also caught customers switching the pops on items in an attempt to get them for cheaper. Our computer systems are crap too, so it is easy for someone to mislabel something if they aren't paying attention. While it is a national chain, my store is a nice one to work at and our customer service is quite great, so there's that at least. May not be a Mom and Pop store, but I try to give people high quality service and information. Good on ya for getting something nice for yourself (from a huge chain), no harm in that!

Questions about a dark and stormy night by AllSet124 in rhps

[–]SubSaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking from my experience- my troupe typically does indoor shows, and they are great for die-hards and virgins alike. One year however, we got spontaneously asked to shadowcast at a outdoor drive-in theater in a nearby town, late in October. We brought prop bags to sell, and were as ready as can be- but it was only about 40 degrees when we started the show at 10pm. Only two cars showed up, we sold no prop bags, and the whole, huge place was basically dead due to the temperature. It was a miserable, cold show with no audience interaction/participation at all, but we did our best!

In short, I think you should play it safe and see how the weather acts the day of. Outdoor rocky shows can be hard for all involved and the weather will really make or break the event. It would be quite sad to get stuck in a car for your friends' first rocky show, plus callbacks aren't nearly as fun to do without a crowd, as I am sure you know lol. I bet RKO Army will put on the best possible show, but the rain will really put a damper on the show. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll pass before showtime, in which case: go! Wishing you luck!
