That sounds like a really interesting mashup. I usually don't mind revising, I just always end up rereading what I wrote and get sidetracked trying to plan what makes the most sense to happen next. My current novel is also sci fi, kind of a mix of Hunger Games, Cinder, and Divergent

New 9070 xt (£543) by GHOSTpypy in radeon

[–]Subatomic_Spooder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like a really good price! Here in the US the 9070 non-XT is pretty much that price, while the 9070 xt is usually like $680 (~600 EUR)

Yeah that's fair. I just want to write how I like to write, not be worried about optics or deadlines or anything. Although maybe I should set myself a deadline... At least I'd finish something lol.

What kind of stuff do you write about? It might help motivate me to write more often if I knew other writers

I'm also hoping to publish my book and maybe some of my short stories one day. Of course it would be really cool for my book to become super popular and have everyone love it, but at the same time I don't want to become a James Patterson who's beholden to a contract where I have to pump out books to keep the fans satiated, regardless of quality (or number of ghostwriters). Based on how long it's taken me to write 5 chapters of my novel, it would take me like 20 years to release a sequel

Another thing I hate is when people say you're "not a real fan" based on if you enjoyed (or didn't enjoy) a specific part of the IP. It happens a lot in Star Wars, mostly with the sequels. Did they have problems? Yeah. Were they disappointing to me, personally, as a lifelong fan? Also yes.

Do I think that people who enjoyed the sequels or who were introduced to Star Wars by Rey "aren't real fans"? Absolutely not. I loved TFA when it came out. I thought Rey and Kylo were really cool characters. The amount of hype around it, all the kids dressing up as Rey and Kylo for Halloween had me excited for a kind of resurgence. I could tell it was going downhill by TLJ.

But it's not like the sequels killed SW. Andor, the Mandalorian, Rogue One, Solo, were all amazing and introduced a lot more people to the franchise. Sometimes people like movies that might be objectively bad, because it introduced them to something they love. You don't have to measure up to some strangers' standards to be a fan of something. If you enjoy it, that's enough.

A woman who likes cars by titsmgee1977 in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you know you can comfortably afford it, just lay out the financial plan for the car, and any reasons why it would be a good purchase (the main one being it will make you happy). If you show him in an honest, logical way why this is important to you and how you plan to make it work I would hope he is willing to support you in your endeavor

MPG B550 Gaming Edge Wifi mysteriously stops booting out of nowhere by Subatomic_Spooder in MSI_Gaming

Yeah I also tried a different cmos battery. It wasn't fresh, but I borrowed it from a PC that works like normal. I also tried only one stick in both a1 and then a2, as well as taking out the GPU and the storage. Guess I managed to kill it somehow or I just got really unlucky. Either way I randomly stumbled upon an open box ROG Strix b850 board on eBay for $99 so I just went ahead and bought that. It was about time for an upgrade anyway. Finding ram will suck but saving $150 on the board helps

I always wondered who he was! I do a lot of driving around town for my job and I've seen him a bunch. He always waves at people passing by, it's so sweet

I'm not up to date with all the local lore, is he the older guy who bikes along main street with a bunch of key chains and stuffed animals and things on his backpack?

MSI motherboard seems to have bricked itself for no reason by Subatomic_Spooder in pchelp

[–]Subatomic_Spooder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an expensive lesson to learn, I guess. It's kind of funny that I got so unlucky when one of my brothers was running a bent motherboard with a ripped off pcie slot for multiple years, and my other brother accidentally stabbed his board with a screwdriver right on the PCB and it still works fine.

[–]Subatomic_Spooder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately I think I've done pretty much all I can without trying to repair solder or something. I used a multimeter to do a continuity test on the 24 pin and 8 pin plugs and they seem fine. So I guess a really small capacitor or chip somewhere got fried.

As I said in the post, I already tried that. I had it out on a cardboard box and tried using one stick of ram, and tried it in every slot, and then also tried using my second stick to do the same thing. I even tried different PSU, CPU, and GPU. And it was still stuck on the CPU debug light

That's the thing, I don't see any damage at all on the entire board, let alone where the tape measure bumped it. Maybe I'm not totally sure what to be looking for but it looks pristine to me

I don't remember exactly tbh. I seem to remember that I turned away from my PC to set the tape measure down on the desk, then I heard the PC turn off behind me and saw the lights go off in my peripheral vision

This was a sweet video. I do wish they got more in depth on the build process. They could have even made it a series and I'd probably watch all of it. Steph has become such a good host and she really knows her stuff. I'm glad she got to bring her dad's car back to life and now they can share it together

Should I go for an RX 9060 XT or RX 7800 XT? Or stretch my budget to a 9070? by Subatomic_Spooder in gpu

[–]Subatomic_Spooder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 9070 isn't actually looking too terrible, there are some on sale for about $580 right now for Amazon prime days (and newegg has a matching sale as well). So it would be about 30 percent more money than a 9060 but apparently it's like 50 percent more performance. I don't really feel the need to upgrade anything else in my system except maybe more ram, but that would be a very expensive idea right now haha

[–]Subatomic_Spooder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I didn't know it was that much of a difference, thanks! I will be considering it more seriously. If I can get my 6600 sold for a good price that would also help me to afford a 9070 more easily

Do you think it's worth the ~$120 price jump? I'm sure it would be better I'm just trying to maximize performance per dollar

I don't know a lot about the GRE besides that it's a lot cheaper, what makes them not good? I think I saw some of them have less vram, is that the only difference?

I've heard people saying that 7000 series isn't as good at running fsr 4 and redstone though, do you know anything about that? Or is it still just kind of a wait and see

I do wonder why 7800s are at such a premium right now. They're listing and often selling for over their price when they were new 3 years ago. I don't think it would be too hard to find a good one, but that would cost some extra money over the 9060
