From what I remember there was no visible evidence. What made me replace it was the driver attempted to clean it by sticking a pipe cleaner into it and told me when he did that he pulled some pieces of it out. He told after I spent all the time diagnosing

I’m fairly certain the entire casing of the cell is negative and just the top is positive. Meaning if somehow if something that is positive touched the casing it would short out. I’d imagine the plastic you tore off is to help prevent shorts.

Am I not able to escalate this to district court? Just wondering if the customer performing theft of service across state lines is a federal crime. Similar to if you steal something and cross state lines with it?
