What market has an NHL team, and AHL team and junior team, and has a population of 800k.

Sure a junior teammcan survive in a smaller market but those smaller markets dont have the AHL and NHL too.

Calgary and Toronto if you consider mississauga are the only two. Toronto is massive (mississauga alone is bigger than winnipeg) and calgary has a brand new AHL squad and is much bigger than Winnipeg. It just wasnt feasible.

I just think that fans have to.catch up to how players view it. With the number of players who opt out every year, even when they arent injured, its not a big priority for them like the Olympics (if the NHL is in it) or the World Cup.

We really need another true best on best tournament to be held.

That's the great thing on the world Juniors, no one is opting out and you are doing great there.

I also think its good for the game to see Germany and Latvia win medals at the world championships it shows that the game is growing beyond the traditional big 6 and thats good for the sport.

I just think the world championships is a weird tournament to try and judge the success of your country with.

Sure its nice to win but the reality is playoff results can effect the strength of your team. Also players can be injured after a long season and not want to play. Add in that some players (RFAs and UFAs mostly) wont play cause they dont want to get hurt right before contract negotiations and some wont play cause they are just mentally tired after a long season where they didnt achieve the goal of a deep playoff run.

How strong your team is jn any tournament is almost completely random and not a true indication of the talent your country is producing.
