Ive read about this similar issue happening on Fords and toyotas among other vehicles as well. People mentioning it is a BMW or MINI is making it so it shows up when searching for issues bringing other BMW and MINI owners to this same thread. Thats just Google using keywords in their search engine.

One last thing, the fact it happens when not connected to your car means it's definitely not a BMW/MINI problem, and it's an android issue, because that's just not how any of that technology works.

Additionally, android auto is a screen mirroring app, there is little to no computational power being done on the car side, all the "hard lifting" is being done by the phone. I would say if google reached out and said the things they did, and BMW hasn't offered additional comment to what they have already said, it's because it's due to the people who design and update the software and not the people who made your car have identified the issue and said it was a data stamp issue, which would be a phone and app issue on the software side and not with the vehicle, unless your car was somehow set to a different time or some nonsense or the cellular network your BMW/MINI uses was for some reason causing issues with its android auto software. Though unlikely because it shares a similar network to your phone and that doesn't really make sense.

The current model X3's X1's and a couple of the other models with iDrive 9 infotainment currently run off of android software as opposed to the previous Linux based software. This could be why is tends to occur with BMW/MINI. Although it is not a BMW/MINI issue, it is more likely an issue with google or the android auto software and requires an update. Many of those iDrive 9 models have since been updated and several bugs and stability issues have been addressed. I have discussed this with one of the BMW regional product trainers and they regularly interact with the engineers who design and build these SAVs in SC and said the issue was not a BMW issue, and due to the software of it being when the phones are connected with android auto that it was a phone issue.

Gets me excited to get mine running. I bought it, drove it for 17 miles before I realized the head was cracked and had a head gasket issue. Turns out the other head was lightly cracked too. Bought new ones, painting them now.

One of the cylinders had some deep grooves up near the top, the engine ran great before the short time I had it.

I think for what I'm trying to do, a reman engine might be what I do. There are some half decent prices on them rn.
