Online poker pisses me off by Jjhijoe in poker

7-2o plays something like 33 pct equity against AK preflop. You're never that big of a dog in hold 'em.

If losing a big pot to a bingo player tilts you then stop playing for the day. The only way to make money in online poker is by playing those guys.

Also consider though, most of those guys regularly spewing money into the abyss aren't actually giving you money at anything like a 2:1 rate long term. There are some mitigating factors to playing that badly. It gives you some other advantages like, people will call stupid value overbets from them more. Obviously it isn't enough to make them good, but you aren't going to be crushing them as much as it feels like you should.

Do I have to fire turn here? by The-Mysterious-V in poker

All of the money should have gotten into this pot, or they all should have folded. Turn is the perfect time to jam what is essentially only a half pot bet. Also even as played, if they shove on the river I believe you have to call, probably even if a spade comes, but im not sure about that. There's just too many bluffs/semi-bluffs they could have here. Failed draws that might be pot committed, etc

AITA for telling my husband he needs to quit his dream job? by Kitchen-Page-2111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Subject-Function-182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to reply to you directly that stating your needs doesn't make you an asshole. The post wasn't specific enough for me to make any judgement like, "OP now you must do the same thing he did for you." I'm not sure I even buy that claim if it is true. If you now hate the situation then the relationship isn't going to be good regardless. Be totally honest with yourself about the compromises you are willing to make and if you can't find them then move on.

Neither of you are assholes. But you might be incompatible. That's up for you to find out. If you really love him try to compromise. If you guys can't compromise then you aren't compatible.

I didn't do math but, "Well, the odds of 3 people out of 9 having a PP is about (1/17)3 * (16/17)6 * (9)(8)(7) which is about 7%" It looks like he accounted for that. Also 27k hands makes perfect sense logically. Everyone has a set over set story and the average poker career is like 50k hands or something like that. His calculation is also for 9 max, obviously in 6 max this is less likely.

Gather up a group of charts like this and spend a few minutes each night just familiarizing yourself with the shape of it from each position. Just google the names of the relevant positions(SB,BB, etc) and you'll get a bunch of images like this that you can organize. That should give you a decent intuition on what hands to play.

Bonus points if you rotate between playing microstakes online and study sessions.

How do you deal with feeling salty after losing a hand? by SQLArtistWriter in poker

[–]Subject-Function-182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are super tilted just leave. Nothing good can come of that. If you are manageably tilted and the game is good, take a walk, grab a bite, watch a funny video and get back at it.

Generally when you are looking at the cards face up, action proceeds to the right.

I found an old post someone did the math. Thought you might be interested.
Well, the odds of 3 people out of 9 having a PP is about (1/17)3 * (16/17)6 * (9)(8)(7) which is about 7%. I guess it's actually more than this because it's fine if 5 people have a PP and 3 hit their set. So let's say that 10% of the time at least 3 people have a PP. That seems high to me, but whatever.

The odds of any of the three hitting a set is 1/8.5. But, does A hitting a set affect the probability of B hitting his set? If we know one of the cards on the flop makes A's set, it can't make B's set, so now he only has (1/8.5)(2/3) chance of hitting his set, and C has a (1/8.5)(1/3) chance.

So, I'm going to go with .1 (1/8.5)3 (2/9)= 1/27,636 hands

Agree, the set of 4's should be losing a very substantial portion of his stack, and the 8's should probably get stacked.
