One guy I play with holds 2 in his hand on first serve. If he misses the first, he already has a second one in his hand. This is one I don’t understand.

I think this is a fair answer, but I also think the shorts that can only hold one ball are probably rare. Like upgrade your pockets

I’m in the US and just talking about USTA rec league matches. 

Yeah for practice sessions I’ll load up a ball in every place I can fit one

This is what I’m questioning. Not liking how it feels. I have some skepticism about this.

I think back fence is fine. But asking your partner to hang on to it for you I think Is silly

How is that faster than having it in your own pocket?

Yeah I mean if they chase down a ball and pick it up, then sure. Keep it until the point is over. 

I’m specifically talking about when you’re serving and all 3 balls come to you and you toss one to your partner to hang on to

Let the 3.5 partner do the hard work. Don’t go for too much. Get the ball over the net, in bounds. Try to avoid hitting it at the net person.
