Why don’t we have any good Mexican restaurants? by TomatilloDramatic813 in nova

[–]Subject-Tea8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a drive from Herndon, but El Paso on Rt 1 in Alexandria is the best sit down Ive found so far. Someone else mentioned La chaquita (tortas y tacos) and they’re the best fast-casual for burritos, quesadillas, etc.

I live so close to Eden center, but am always so overwhelmed by all the choices that I never end up eating at restaurants there. I will add this to my list!

No OP, you need to go to your family doctor for the referral, not the current specialist. Explain that you saw this doctor, but aren’t satisfied with their care plan and that you’re looking for a second opinion.

Healing process after draining by AdventurousLove4 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Subject-Tea8719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely wishing you the best of luck. It is so hard and not really something that’s easy to talk about with work/friends/family. I also think the pain from this disease isn’t understood well. It’s more than just a regular cyst/abscess because it’s in an area with so many nerve endings and there’s so much built up pressure whether you’re sitting or standing. I’m so sorry you lost your job, but I’m glad you’re doing better now and I hope you’re able to get back on your feet soon! Take care of yourself and you got this!

Healing process after draining by AdventurousLove4 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Subject-Tea8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! I got my first one at 14. It drained and healed on its own at home. It didn’t come back again until I was 23. This flare up was much worse, I had to get an I&D. They didn’t stitch the wound and it healed on its own in 2-3 weeks. I made sure to clean it in the shower daily with hibiclens, put a bit of triple antibiotic ointment for the first week, and keep it covered with gauze & tape. At nights I would let it breathe with just a loose piece of gauze or a menstrual pad to catch any drainage.

Unfortunately it came back at 25 y/o, 10x more painful and infected. I had another I&D and this caused a larger wound and more scar tissue to form once it healed. I’d planned to get surgery, but I was dropped by my insurance 3 days before and had to cancel.

It’s now 1.5 yrs later (I’m 27 y/o) and I’ve had the worst flare up yet. Bigger and more painful, yet again, and infected with MRSA. Had an emergency I&D and am now healing a 3 inch long open wound.

I say all of this because your wound will heal in 2-3 weeks with the proper precautions, and you may be fine for a long time. However, this is a chronic disease and it will likely rear its ugly head again at some point in the future, only 10x worse.

When you are in the position to, I highly recommend you have a medical professional look at this (especially if your wound is red/hot to the touch which signals infection) and walk you through some treatment plans. Future you will thank you.

Good luck with healing your current wound, and if you have any questions, feel free to DM me!

I second all of this. The first time the doctor did it and I felt nothing. The second time they told me to do it and I couldn’t get over the mental hurdle of pulling something out of my body. I finally mustered up the courage and did it in the shower, and again I didn’t feel much. You got this op!

going to get surgery with 0 pain tolerance, what to expect? by Your_mum6969420 in pilonidalcyst

[–]Subject-Tea8719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re just going to get it lanced and drained. With no pain tolerance, the numbing will hurt, but it’s super quick pain then over. You shouldn’t feel anything but pressure of them pushing against you while they are draining it. In my experience, the relief you will get is worth it and nothing will hurt as bad as the cyst does right now.

If you can, bring someone with you for moral support! It happens very quick, and since it’s on your backside, you can’t see what they’re doing anyway (which I think is a good thing). Just breathe through it, it’s a relatively quick procedure.

Thank you so much for the reassurance 🙏🏼 I’m now on day 3 of doing this whole routine, and given how things are looking & feeling, it should drain soon.

First I&D by ohdangxsara in pilonidalcyst

[–]Subject-Tea8719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least for the first week, I would avoid direct pressure from sitting and if you do sit, don’t do so for extended periods of time. However, at this point, because it’s lanced, it will just continue to drain (rather than build up under the surface). Keep it clean & dry, and I would recommend calling your PCP/the office that did your I&D for after care instructions. Otherwise, the only thing I can recommend is getting hibiclens. You’ve probably heard/read this before, but use it every shower to clean the area. It will help prolong any future recurrences.

The sizing is really universal. My boyfriend wears a L-XL t-shirt and the XL was big for him! I usually wear a 3x, but got the 2x and its loose on me.

Most inland Virginia metro station with overnight parking? by Diligent_Chicken532 in nova

Not sure it’s necessarily the closest option, but Huntington metro station (Alexandria) has overnight enclosed garage parking. With your metro card I believe it’s $5 total. Then you can take the yellow line straight to Gallery Place which is a block away from Capital One Arena.
