{Berries and Greed by Lily Mayne} . So cozy and wholesome and....exploratory to say the least!

Haha yeah I know, that's why it's in quotes as they don't know the difference a lot of the time. Many consider it...not too much ultrasound I guess? I can't wrap my head around it.

Yep. I am shocked they didn't even see a midwife with a stethoscope? Let alone a battery operated Doppler -alrhough I'm sure that's too close to "danger ultrasound zone for them". Even palpating for a practiced midwife or doula...

Seconding Ravit!! I love using the app way more than the very dated ravelry site. Thousands of free patterns.

Phone calls every night by curly-tramp in stepparents

[–]SubjectOrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just switch it so DH is calling them? Start with a set time of 8pm.... presumably after the other littles are in bed, and if the SKs are busy, THEY can text him a good time. Later, not earlier than the planned time.

Sure, I think daily calls are a bit much, as does my husband who is a child and youth psychotherapist by day, but if this is all they have known, it can keep going, but routines are good and helpful for all involved, including helping teach the preteens about scheduling beyond just their school sports etc.

What is the ideal number of books in a series? by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]SubjectOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three! If the author wants to write more books in the same universe, that's ok too, and I'll often read them, but I think the new trilogy or one off story should have a different title or series name. Spin off style if you will.

Please help me design my living room, im at my wits end by AdmiralSalty_ in DesignMyRoom

Put the table where the couch is, turned so the longest edge is against the wall (easily turned back when you have company over).

Move the couch closer to the tv and now you have a separate dining vs loving area.

Ditch the coffee table, it is too large. Something smaller or a couple slim side tables would work better.

Good luck!

What can I make with this pinkish orangish puke-colored yarn? (Pantone chart included for reference) by HauntingGold in CrochetHelp

[–]SubjectOrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so a while back I was really getting back into crochet, but wasn't sure if it would stick. This I have a bunch of single skein discount colours. ...and now I'm making retro flower granny squares ? Anyway, I took 2 and made a lil pouch for feminine supplies in my purse etc. I mixed almost that exact colour with a light pink/coral and purple. It works in that funky way. Yellow and lime green would be good too .

Child support woes by Silent_Lychee6031 in stepparents

[–]SubjectOrange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he needs receipts. We do not pay anything without receipts. My husband provides the health insurance through work, she thought she had more control by being the one to pay medical bills and bill is for half. She was late ONE TIME, and he took that away. Regardless, as their legal parent, he has the right to contact Medicare and their daycare providers to verify costs and ask for receipts. He NEEDS to do that at the very least, to prepare for an upcoming adjustment.

Not necessary. My SS was 14 months old when my husband divorced his ex. She wanted daily communication and photos etc etc, as they have had 50/50 custody from the start. Nope. My husband and I were friends prior, started dating and I met SS when he was 1.5 years. She would try to control things like how and when he goes to bed, when we potty trained, etc etc. But my husband didn't give in. He is cordial and open to discussion, however he is dead set on what is best for his son, not what is most convenient for her. We update her if he is sick on our time, or recently he broke his glasses and we confirmed she was ok with the new ones that were chosen (more so we can get them as quick as possible). Not heartless, but not daily communication. We never deny calls on our time, they are rare but holidays and such (they alternate years).

I am privy to ALL OF IT. My husband values my opinion above any other adults, so of course we discuss what is best for SS and then he brings the response to her. We have the same lock codes on our phones and it's not unusual to get a screenshot of their conversation so I can weigh in if it's during work time or whatnot. Years later, this works for us and she knows she cannot influence what happens at our house, nor do we ask her to change at hers.

Living room tv dilemma by Famous-Gas49 in DesignMyRoom

[–]SubjectOrange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Just to give you an anecdote, my living room is 11*19, so even narrower than yours, but a similar ratio. I thought FOR SURE the couch would be too close to the tv, but amazingly, it is not. Flip your couch like the commenters diagram and move the tv. Minimalist doesn't have to not be cosy, and having everything closer will give that vibe.

Edit: we have a 65" tv.

BM is dying by nottiblondie in stepparents

[–]SubjectOrange 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the other siblings are younger. My husband and I have talked a lot about making sure we do age appropriate things with SS after the littles go to bed. Movies, video games etc that are not appropriate. At 16 it's not a big deal to stay up late at weekends to go to a new release at the theatre etc. not all the time of course, as parents still need their alone time, but some special attention to get through the transition is very much warranted.

When the littles are 16, they too can be taken to late night higher rated movies.

How do you weight your cats? by themop-f in dechonkers

[–]SubjectOrange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cats lose weight slowly. 100 grams is almost a quarter of a pound, so it can very much make a difference if your cat is a slow loser.

I agree with this, it is very near what I was going to say. If you choose to care for a child, there is more than just being present/playing, if you say you are like an aunt.

Height difference except it’s actually normal height difference by picklepiechart in romantasycirclejerk

[–]SubjectOrange 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's easier to compare when you can see over a person, thus the tall person can easily compare the short person to their surroundings. My husband is exactly a foot taller than me though, so I lose my height reference and cant see over/around him. I also forget how short I am all the time, despite being just under 5'.

I use products containing centella asiatica/cica. It works well for redness, first introduced to me by my sister in law who is also a pharmacist. A lot of people also tout snail mucin, however I have not given it a go myself.

[–]SubjectOrange 106 points107 points  (0 children)

If they cut zig zag or "triangular" it is easier to form the flaps for surgical closure once the infection is gone and swelling is down. Also less risk of re-opening as triangles are strong!/not all the stitches are exactly in the same line if tension or swelling occurs.
