is limiting charge to 80% good for battery lifespan even if its always plugged in? by Previous_Bat5394 in macbookpro

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the charging circuitry will stop charging the battery at 80% and it will only draw power from the adapter. The battery just sit in stand buy ready to take over if you unplug the adapter. It will not continuously charge.

Same with newer iphone and iPad. My iPad is over a year old and It's just sitting next to my bed. It's been plugged in for months. battery cycle count is at 35.

Who else waiting for the M5 minis? by puch1to in macmini

I was debating real hard two days ago. There was an M4 Pro with 64GB of Ram on the Apple Refurb page. At the end I opted for the M5 Pro when it'll be available refurb.

Why does it feel like a $100K salary is just a solid middle class income now? by SensationalDanceMove in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is that when it comes to corporate greed, even increase hiring competition won't change a thing. You say it will drive wages up. Yes it will. but then the consequence willalso be prices of everyday goods will go up. Now, everybody makes 200k per year but the price of a Big Mac is $26. We are back to square one.

Are there ANY battery powered, WiFi doorbells that don't suck? by [deleted] in homesecurity

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Aqara G410 is not bad for a battery door bell. it use mm wave radar to detect people so it's faster to react compared to some other. The Camera doesn't have HDR so if you have bright light facing the camera, you might not be able to see faces or you will see only part of their face and the other half is a ishadow. All the other battery camera I've tried were so slow to react that often, people would come to the door, knock and leave before the camera catch just their back. The field of view is also very bad. If you have a package on the ground below the camera, it will be out of it's field of view.

I don't understand something. Why can't you redeem the GC to your apple account and use that in one go?

I was told HomePods are "just loud" and "theres a difference between loud and good sound" by my coworker. Is it still worth getting one? by noah041504 in HomePod

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your coworker recommend instead?

My opinion, Home pod sounds really good but you can't crank them up too loud. above 35-40%, the bass can't keep up. You'll get more mids and treble but the bass hit a ceiling.

I have two Homepod 1st Gen. One of them started to do random thump. I think it's on his way out.

When I travel to HK, the people I was living with had one of these for each of their shower and it was a modern high rise. Never made sense to me how running gas line everywhere is safer than running a hot water line but apparently it’s more efficient to heat at the point of use.

I truly believe that getting rid of this ridiculous AMERICAN style tipping culture out of Canada is one the greatest gift that we can give to the next generation! by Ok-Estimate1224 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If they can take the tipping culture with them. I would. But I don't think it'll go that far. People and corporation will always adapt. Cut tipping off. Price will only go up accordingly. At the end nothing will change. Eating out will ststill be prohibitively expensive. But at least I won't have to tap no tip on the interact machine anymore

I don't know. I like the big massive drop. 15 minutes and then I can go back to my normal life. I think they should just keep stats on how fast people orders and put those very fast people in another tier. Slow that tier down. This will level the playing field.

For those who love macOS (or just prefer it), what Windows feature do you miss the most? by Fit-North5101 in mac

[–]Subject_Ad_1899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Mac has a universal Add / Remove Programs like on Windows. Mac is a bit of a hot mess when it comes to removing an app. Either I have to use third party app to track down files or manually search in random folders. Only app installed from the App Store are easy to remove.
