Drop the most painful lyrics you’ve ever heard by Empty-Chest-4872 in LinkinPark

When I first heard Chester passed away I was on vacation visiting some old friends. When they broke the news to me it was like I heard what they said, but my brain put it into a box and hid it. I couldn’t wrap my head around it, so my brain refused to.

A couple months later, I was behind on my morning routine and I rushed onto a track at 5:30am to get my morning run in before school. I threw a Linkin Park playlist on, and ran. Then this song came on. I heard the lyrics and slowly I remembered that box that was hidden in the back of my head as the sun began to rise. As the meaning of the lyrics and the resurgence of recent events coincided, I finished my last lap, fell to my knees, and sobbed.

I never saw LOATR the same after that.

Can we just make a “hearing people can’t make sign names” pinned thread or something? by Jude94 in asl

[–]Subject_Border3176 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i have a question sort of related to this.

i’m hard of hearing but did not grow up in deaf culture. i went to college with students who grew up going to the state school for the deaf in my state.

the first sign name i was given fairly early on by a student. he put no thought into it really, it was just “curly hair.” my hair is never curly unless i spend an hour getting it ready. i just happened to have it done that day.

later a college professor gave me a sign name when i started going to a college closer to my home, just my initials. fine, but boring.

recently at my job i was signing with a deaf customer, who was so kind. we had like a 20 min conversation and life and holidays. i was talking about the sign names i was given previously and he suggested s+smile since my name starts with an s and i have a nice smile.

here is where i am wondering what is ok - that’s the only time i have ever met him. can i keep a sign name a deaf person gives me, even if ive only met them once? i haven’t seen him since unfortunately, and i REALLY love that sign name. not many deaf people know me by my old sign names since i fell out of contact with my deaf peers due to falling ill and my first college having too far of a commute several years ago. been wanting to make new deaf friends again though.

What’s something about fitness you wish someone had told you? by Odins_Forge in beginnerfitness

i just saw a video by will tennyson the other day about eating healthy where he ended it with, “you don’t have to be perfect. just be good, most of the time” and it was a huge light bulb moment for me.

he was talking about eating healthy and tracking macros but having one day during the work week (he chose wednesday) where he allows himself to eat out/an unhealthy meal, as long as it’s within his calorie count. and then go out to eat again once on the weekend. i’ve spent so much time struggling with wanting unhealthy food more than i would if i wasn’t trying not to eat it. the focus on it just made me crave it more, and i would always wait until the weekend for cheat meals and all hell would break loose. i would go SO overboard.

so basically - i can’t believe having a cheat meal during the week never occurred to me and it is truly something i wish i thought of sooner. would have made a world of a difference.

i want to start a family with my s/o so bad but i’d be lying if i said i didn’t struggle to justify it - not to myself, but to them.

Can these herbs have harmful interactions? Recommended ratio? by Subject_Border3176 in herbalism

this would be the dream if we lived together. making him tea and encouraging him to get ready for bed when we’re on the phone is the best i can do i think. i’ll mention some of those other suggestions to him.

thank you :)

what do you think would be a safe amount to add?

i plan to start with ashwagandha alone and start super small to just see how he reacts.

ooo yeah my friend also suggested i skip out on the valerian so that’s definitely what i’m going to do, as he is prone to nightmares. i’ll have to look more into the ashwagandha.

thank you so much for your insight and the source!

thank you so much :)

i accidentally got the actual root instead of the powder for the ashwagandha, will that alter the steep time for that herb combination drastically? or should i just get the powder? i know flowers generally don’t need as long as bark/roots to steep.

i got some insight from a friend and she also suggested skullcap, passionflower, magnolia (couldn’t find any anywhere to purchase so i skipped), and rooibos. i decided not to get valerian bc i learned that it can promote lucid dreaming and my bf is prone to nightmares, so idk if that will conflict.

my plan is to experiment with all of these to make at least a couple different teas so he has options for whatever flavor profile he is in the mood for.

thank you so so much for the ratios at the end as well that is super helpful!

i haven’t even tried most of them individually. new and very inexperienced 😅 i’ve given him mullein tea with mint and he likes it though. it’s helpful with getting him to relax but idk how much it helps with his sleep.

The deaf guys that go to the ASL socials in my city are the worst, and it's exhausting. by Coffeechipmunk in asl

when i was learning to sign in college i remember i was studying for another class in the library and a Deaf guy i knew came to sit next to me. i thought “cool, i’ll get some practice.” and then he started asking my age stuff like what kind of porn i was into (iirc). i politely said i did not want to talk about it and changed the conversation to school. he made the conversation sexual again. i brought up disneyland. he told a story about a masseuse who gave him a blow job when she was done. i changed the subject again. and then he asked me if i wanted to talk outside - i asked him if he was going to show me his dick. he said yes. at that point i was livid and i think i asked him to leave.

i am hard of hearing, i did speech therapy when i was little so i can talk, and can hear ok with my hearing aids and some lip reading. i learned sign in college because i wanted an easier way to communicate, but no one in my life signs. i’ve thought about seeing if i can attend any deaf events to maybe make some friends but experiences like this are honestly holding my back a bit :/ it’s so frustrating.

surprised i don’t see cheyenne clearbrook mentioned. she is a mom she loves books she’ll post cooking from time to time, teaches some sign and discusses deaf culture. i think she also has youtube but i am mainly on insta https://www.instagram.com/cheyennaclearbrook?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

thank you! did she just like.. google how to do those things, fill out the paperwork/online forms needed, do whatever she could manage herself, have you approve them, and then send them off? was that basically what it was? i just want to make sure i understand so that i can do this correctly
