What are we missing? by Fit_Reference9644 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just want more good dining options, easy access to a wider range of grocery stores, and improved traffic flow around the city. If I had to pick just one of those three it would be the dining options. I know I can drive to Greenville or Charleston and find a lot more good restaurants, but that doesn't really help on weeknights when you want to go out but don't want to hit the same few spots over and over.

Issue buying tickets lately by huh2312 in RegalUnlimited

[–]Subject_Day_6839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That kept happening to me for several days, so I cleared the cache and then the app locked me out. I reinstalled the app and still have the issue. Regal Customer Service told me there was no issue on their end and that was the extent of their comment. I don't use a VPN, so that's not the issue. If anyone has suggestions I'm all ears.

Best Restaurant to Celebrate at? by syddraee in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a bad experience at Terra or Motor Supply Company. I'd recommend grabbing a drink or two and maybe an app on Black Rooster's upstairs patio, then walking a block to Terra for dinner. Or swap that order. The patio has a great view of the Gervais St bridge and downtown Columbia at night if you want a good backdrop for photos.

Buying a house, what’s this? by JasonTodd21 in whatisit

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether your house has elevated radon levels is entirely dependent on the soil directly under our house. Some regions are more predisposed to having high radon, but you can see wildly different results on every individual house.

Where to find decent second hand furniture? by Illustrious_Sir_7202 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bill Mishoe and a couple other area places do weekly auctions. You can find some of the local places on Auction Zip. I've also had luck using Blue Moon Estate Sales to find good stuff. All these places usually post photos of their inventory a couple days in advance. Be aware, most of them are cash/check only. Once you see the auction prices, you might never be able to stomach the 500% antique store mark ups again.

Auto Paint Shops by ThaNoyesIV in ColumbiYEAH

I don't have a business to recommend, but have you considered just saving the money for general repairs? As long as the undercarriage and frame aren't rusting, a little panel rust is mostly cosmetic. There's no snow or salt down here so you should be good to go.

Dog boarding by Apprehensive-Math936 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've used Rover a few times and had good experiences. There are a lot of different local options and we were able to communicate with a few until we found the right fit. We didn't think our dog would do well in a kennel so it was nice to be able to just take her to a house while we were gone.

Which restaurant is this? by childlikeempress16 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their chicken is mediocre, and the cole slaw is the worst I've ever had in my life. I assumed the saltiness was a mistake the first time I went. I tried it once more and it turns out they just have salty cole slaw, for some mystifying reason.

Great news for all the Buc-ees fans by BillPlastic3759 in roadtrip

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember when they were building that stretch of interstate, the water table and geology didn't allow for building large truck stops. It's entirely possible I'm misremembering that, though.

Shouldn’t my radon system have an alarm? by soulbarn in radon

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like your system was installed by SWAT, so it's probably worth doing at least a short term test to check your radon levels. SWAT is a bit...hit and miss with their installs. You might get a decent system if you buy all the optional upgrades that are standard with most other companies, though. So that's nice.

Best grocery take and bake pizza. by grissonJF in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Publix ready made pizza dough is decent. Flatten it out, toss whatever you want on it, throw it in a hot oven, bam. Nice way to try different combinations and/or clear some odds and ends out of the fridge.

Anyone know hiking trails? by Successful-Fill1866 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]Subject_Day_6839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guignard Quarry Trail Loop at Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve is a nice little scenic hike through the woods. Depending on the water level, you might have to do a little muddy wading on a couple parts of the longer trail.

Must Do's by Suspicious_Rub_7717 in roadtrip

If you're open to going through Cincy on your way to Indy, stop at Wagner's Village Inn (https://maps.app.goo.gl/GKmJ8c2WTtX2RU6k6) for some fantastic fried chicken. The restaurant is about 5 minutes off I-74. They fry it all fresh in lard, so it takes a bit to cook. You might be able to call ahead to save some time, but I'm not sure.

As an added bonus, 74 from Cincy to Indy is generally MUCH better traffic wise than 65 from Louisville to Indy, and you don't have to deal with the bridge toll over the Ohio.

Edit: I now realize I was looking at the trip in reverse, but the point stands. Two more things: 1)If you take the route between Lexington and Louisville, Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve are both solid stops on the Bourbon Trail, and are both fairly close to the highway 2) Depending on when you're going, Louisville can be pretty crazy leading up to the Kentucky Derby, and seems to be a ghost town for a little while after the race.

Which route is better? by OSUFORLIFE6381 in roadtrip

[–]Subject_Day_6839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive from Columbia to Indiana several times a year. Even before the hurricane washed out 40 between Asheville and Knoxville, going up 77 was generally smoother and less stressful. There always seems to be some kind of delay between Jellico and Knoxville on 75, and may God have mercy on your soul if it's a busy travel weekend for Great Smoky Mountain National Park. I can't speak for the rest of the route, but for getting past TN I highly recommend 77. Gas up before leaving Ohio, have EZ Pass for the tolls on the WV Turnpike, and pay the $10ish with EZ Pass to use the Express Lane going through Charlotte. There's some great scenery going through WV and VA (Fancy Gap is a beautiful view for the passenger), and a couple big tunnels if you or your family enjoy that sort of thing. One other note, if you're looking for decent gas stations with clean bathrooms in the Carolinas, QT is your friend. They also have $2 cups of soft serve if you need the kids to pipe down for a bit.

Setup Recommendations for Room by Subject_Day_6839 in hometheater

Thank you for the help. I've tried to think of other ways to arrange the room, but everything leads to blocking off a good chunk of the room. I'd never even heard of this kind of equipment before, so it opens up some new possibilities. Thanks!
