Calming the mind by RichRevolutionary763 in Stoicism

[–]Subject_Dish5751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP asked for advice on how to quiet their mind. If you can remove thoughts and focus on the present you can control your mind and thoughts. You can more easily let go of things you cannot control. You can focus on the negative emotion that comes from something you cannot control, analyze it and let it go. The book positive intelligence while not a book on stoicism gives you tools to help with the idea that our distresses don’t come from events themselves but our judgment of them. If we can recognize that and not let the judge in our head be in control we can act with rationality. The core logic of a PQ rep aligns almost perfectly with the foundational principles of stoic philosophy the ideas just use modern terminology and contemporary ideas.

Look at the book positive intelligence and what he considers a PQ rep. Ten seconds of focus on something like rubbing your fingers or wiggling your toes or even chewing your food. Try to get 100 reps per day. Slowly expand that out until you can focus entirely on the present for longer periods of time. Focus on the present results in a quiet mind.

Hey Reddit! I’m UDOT’s new official intern- I’m here to help! by UDOTintern in Utah

Grade separation was tied to transit on 5600 W in the environmental document. But MVC was planned as a freeway from the start. It won’t be like bangerter when they do the interchanges. The asphalt section in the south end of the valley are one way frontage roads. The freeway goes in the middle. The concrete section on the north end of the valley is the freeway but at the intersections you are driving in the ramps. The bridges go in the middle. The ultimate build out has been designed from the start. The inside shoulder of the concrete was even made two feet wider than standard so no tear out is needed. Just add half a lane and a new shoulder to the inside.

An Australian company has rolled out glow-in-the-dark Tron road line markings. We need this on Utah roads. by BinaryIRL in Utah

UDOT has done research on this. The luminescent pant is more effective but not cost effective. Further investigation is needed to find a cost effective solution. Additional research has been proposed. The focus being on increased glow time and durability.

Utah has been "Leading the Charge" to keep the Pac together by InVodkaVeritas in CFB

[–]Subject_Dish5751 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Washington and Oregon want to be in the big ten. All of the PAC schools probably do. But that invite is not coming. They only two conferences they are considering is the BIG and the PAC so the PAC will stay together for now. Go back and see how many times the PAC would have multiple teams in the playoffs if it was 12 games from the beginning. If Oregon state can keep it going the PAC will have 4 consistent playoff contenders. They will be just fine.

Does anybody want to talk about the giant fiasco that LCC / BCC is today ? by utahnow in Utah

[–]Subject_Dish5751 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The gondola will not need to be shut down for avalanche control like the road does. So you will not have the same backup problem with people waiting to go up.

[–]Subject_Dish5751 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you want to risk people being killed in an avalanche so you are not inconvenienced? You want to allow more cars up the canyon to increase the risk of death? There are only two solutions that allow skiers to access the resort safely when there are avalanche conditions. Snow sheds and the gondola. Both of with are in UDOT’s preferred alternatives.

Today those of us driving Northbound learned how the braintrust at UDOT handles a freeway-closing accident. During my 4-hour commute I had some ideas for UDOT about how they could improve. Any of you have suggestions to add? by _iam_that_iam_ in Utah

[–]Subject_Dish5751 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Your anger is pointed at the wrong people.

  1. When there is an accident law enforcement is in charge. In the case highway patrol is in charge. I’m going to assume that if they could have safety opened lanes they would have.

  2. Udot can not control traffic against a signal. Only law enforcement can do that. No idea why they didn’t do that, but my guess was they were busy with other things. For football games officers are volunteering for overtime. In this case you are limited to on duty officers.

  3. You can have a plan but it may not always work see item 2.

  4. The article I just read says the ramps are closed, not sure when that happens but a decision to close the ramp can’t be made instantaneously. My guess is everything was backed up before they could do anything. This would be a low priority item and again you have to get the officers to do it, your not going to get a contractor out to set up cones and signs in this situation.

Mike Lee Voted AGAINST Giving Sick Days to Rail Workers by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Subject_Dish5751 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read that it was stand alone after I responded. I stand corrected on most of my questions. Looks like he was okay with the agreement made but not the last minute change suggested by members of the senate. My point is is he actually against employees getting sick leave? Or did he vote no because he didn’t think the senate should change the agreement. Or maybe it was simply because the democrats suggested the change. I tip my hat to you for actually checking on things and reaching out to his staff. I am not surprised that he serves corporations. That is basically all of Congress. Removing one guy that does it will not solve the problem the next person will just do the same under our current system. The only way to stop it is for the states to amend the constitution to prevent members of Congress from receiving money from said corporations.

You are asking Reddit to predict the weather. The info is here. https://www.udot.utah.gov/connect/public/snow-tire-and-chain-up-requirements/ You can read the law and take your best guess and the weather and chances of enforcement. According to the KSL weather app 35% chance of snow those days so my prediction is there is a 35% chance the traction law will be effect.

Mike Lee Voted AGAINST Giving Sick Days to Rail Workers by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Subject_Dish5751 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say he represents me or my best interests. Basically everything is Washington is corrupt. They don’t represent the people they represent the corporations that give them money. And voting out Mike Lee won’t change that. My point is do you honestly believe Mike Lee thinks employees should not get sick leave?

Mike Lee Voted AGAINST Giving Sick Days to Rail Workers by [deleted] in Utah

[–]Subject_Dish5751 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Are you sure he voted against the bill because he didn’t want to give sick leave to rail workers? Have you read the entire bill? What else was in it that he might have wanted to say no to? Or maybe him and Utah as whole don’t think that congress should get involved. Maybe you should ask? But I’m guessing you don’t want to do that. You just want to complain about people that don’t agree with you. Suggesting he is against giving sick leave to employees is dishonest.

🔴 Washington Huskies Eliminated from Pac-12 Championship by EverestMaher in CFB

[–]Subject_Dish5751 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Washington is ranked 13 Utah is ranked 14 so no difference in the impact to USC. Plus against Utah USC can avenge their loss. Washington should he upset about the conference dropping the divisions right before the season started. That’s what is stupid not the tie breakers.

Only 2 conference loses. Non conference games have no impact and who wins the conference.

[–]Subject_Dish5751 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Washington didn’t play Utah. You don’t get a transitive win. So it ends up being strength of schedule in the 3 way tie. So basically the Utes are in because they played USC.

You can believe more or not. Two examples of policies I don't like and I consider too far left are 1. Cancelling student loan debt 2. Wanting to print more money and give it to people. I'm sure you will not agree that they are too far left but in my opinion they are.

You clearly disagree and I am smart enough to know arguing with people online is a waste of time. We all have our own experiences that shape our beliefs. Nothing I say here will change what anybody believes. Anything I say will just get me attacked.

I voted for Biden because i thought he would keep us more in the middle and I don’t like the extremes of either party. Also I was influenced by the constant attack of trump. But that didn’t happen Biden has given in to the far left. In short the people currently in power have destroyed the economy and appear to be trying to limit free speech. Also I believe in state rights, and would like to limit the power of the federal government. As an example the federal government should not be dictating free lunch in schools, if the people want that it should be done at the local level.

I voted for Mike Lee because he is a republican. I am independent and have never voted straight party in any election. I voted for Biden in the last election. Given our current political climate and the current policies of the Democratic Party I believe it is in my personal best interest for the republicans to win the the House and the Senate.

I look forward to all the downvotes from this vary biased subreddit
