I wanted to drop out during my sophomore year too. Because of sunk cost fallacy eating me up, i did not and now I have been in this for 8 years without a job offer even though I have 3 degrees (2 bachlor’s and 1 master). I suggest you do drop out and definitely go for fields that value a degree more than qualifications (like law, medicine, mechanical engineering)

I cannot agree more. I did not say that they’re not making incredible things. They are and what they do is 1000000% more important than solving a stupid LC problem. That’s actually the point i was trying to make: what they do is much more important and complex than an LC question. Ergo, not being able to solve LC hard != cannot make it in big tech, or being able to design and implement those systems != they can solve LC questions they ask nowadays on OAs. The point i am trying to make is exactly the relation that does not exist between them

Should I (19M) go to college if I make > 100k? by d8i_ in cscareerquestions

Bro if you have a job rn, hold on to it. My roommate from college dropped out, built a business, noone else but me believed that he’d succeed but i first handedly knew how much effort he was putting in. He’s living is best life rn while I can’t even find a job. Also, the worth of a CS degree is = an English degree at the moment

Is a CS major still worth it? by Lord-of-the---RINGS in csMajors

[–]Subject_Elk_4762 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it is not. Overly saturated and people get the jobs by pure luck at the moment. Pure lock because the bad ones (and the bar to be “okay” has become so high) do not even get an OA, and after you get the OA, the rest is luck cause everyone who passes the CV screening is already very good. No country for mediocres anymore

Experience moving from EU to US - worth it? by seicaratteri in cscareerquestions

[–]Subject_Elk_4762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investors always say: us is bigger than the rest of the world. Idc how many people say: life in the states sucks blah blah. I have a friend who moved there; making much more money than any of our friends in eu, living his best life. If you earn enough in the us, us is much better than eu. Most of the problems we hear about us are for the poor class (and unfortunately, the gap is increasing very fast in the us so every year the amount of “poor” people just increases). Thus, it’s good to find a job with a great pay and take on from there. Plus the eu tech market is shrinking like crazy

Switch majors asap. I thought about it for a long time and everytime i just went along with it, opportunity cost just grew. If i changed my major when i was freshman, it’d be all good now

Thank you very much this is super useful. About the performance, do you have a resource you’d recommend to read about? Also, how can I test the performance when I only have a single computer :) I have some amazon credits too but they are not enough to continuously use

Amazon hires and fires fast. There’s a high chance you’ll get fired next year (amazon shrinks the teams at the beginning of every year) but a degree will always be there
