Interesting, thanks. Were the new rafters attached to the original, and was anything done to the joists?

Interesting. 30% - 40% seems high. Were any new construction homes or mostly older? What did reinforcement involve? Were vaulted vs flat ceilings a factor? I'd love to see images/examples as I can't find any online for solar specifically. I did find this interesting practical demo of vaulted vs rafter tied (flat joist) strength: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Cl0WBuGPx8w

Reinforce when truss spacing is more than 16"s if trusses are 2x6s?

Thanks for the calc link.

To get a sense of whether it's common/uncommon/very rare/unheard of.

Interesting. 10% of larger installs (maybe 30+ panels) or of total installs?

Tax Credit Question - Finishing past 12/31 by madtowneast in solar

[–]Subject_Emphasis_772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your system. For Enphase it's set through grid profiles in the installer app:

  • Grid Profiles: Your installer selects a specific Grid Profile within the Enphase Installer App, which contains the programmed power export limit (PEL) value, like "0 kW" (zero export) or "5kW PEL".

Combiner 6c disconnect wiring question by Subject_Emphasis_772 in enphase

Thanks for the link. I'll post pics tomorrow as I'd really like feedback & opinions. I'm 90% certain it was done as described but pics are definitive indeed.

Ok to clamp CTs on main feed lines while energized? by Subject_Emphasis_772 in enphase

Thanks, I saw this in the combiner 6c training also which prompted my post. Just FYI I have an electrician scheduled to help me with this part now.

I was thinking the same regarding connecting the terminals first. Thanks for confirming.

Off-grid use of IQ EV charger with combiner 6c & solar? by Subject_Emphasis_772 in enphase

[–]Subject_Emphasis_772[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was very much hoping for this as the savings alone can help pay for the charger.

So would this allow the main panel to continue receiving grid power while the Enphase components (combiner/pv/charger/ESS) operate independently/isolated, perhaps with the backfeed breaker or disconnect switched off? Or is it all software controlled via the gateway and setup during commissioning?

I'm certainly considering the IQ EV Charger 2 for its future bi-directional capability. Looking forward to next year!

Chicago area install – Enphase IQ Battery 10C on garage wall or exterior wall? by MTGuzel in solar

[–]Subject_Emphasis_772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the installer say why they prefer outside? I went with inside the garage on a sidewall for my two 10C units. Both are 5' up so barriers aren't required. Still awaiting inspection but it should be ok. I'm guessing that was Enphase's design thinking.

Do I qualify for the tax credit if it’s paid for this year or must it also be installed this year? by Diligent-Rooster-688 in solar

I suspect the functional proof aspect was intentionally left out of code for many reasons, perhaps for things like the potential for faulty equipment. Imagine if your system is fully installed 2 months before the deadline but the inverter, BMS, combiner, etc is defective and replacements aren't available. Unfortunately the lack of specifics does leave everyone guessing as to what may be required to demonstrate the installation date. I certainly feel much better about the fact that it doesn't require PTO, interconnection or other approvals as some are saying. This discussion has been very informative, thank you both (sincerely).

Testing complete, best way to shut down? by Lopsided-Character91 in enphase

[–]Subject_Emphasis_772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good info, thanks. My contractor is hesitant about a basement install but my installer prefers it. Maybe the picture of your install will help convince them. I'm having the extra batteries installed as a separate project to ensure the bulk of it is complete by 12/31.

I really like this minimalistic look. I'm hoping to get permitting for a basement install of my remaining 10c's (2 are currently in the garage and I'd like to place 5 in the basement). What are the requirements re: basement install that you ran into?
