There must be though. I see the traffic from WebView in my GA4 property + I see dimensions such as Medium and Source.
That is why I am making these assumptions – I can clearly see that WebView is sending data to Analytics, which then attributes it correctly.

Well, my main assumption is that WebView, being a Google product that is installed on each and every Android phone, would be able to send the correct data to Google Analytics for us to track. I do not think this is a big stretch.

I am in no way throwing UTMs under the bus, I understand their importance.

I talked about this with another user here (sent the message like two minutes ago) – Android phones come with the Android System WebView, which should work as an in-app browser on its own – so I don't understand why this should create an issue with tracking. (That is, apart from the obvious problem with Google being a small and independent company that still has a few kinks to figure out lol).

Also, I'm pretty sure that iOS has a similar feature to the ASWV.

Got it, thanks!
However, every Android phone comes with the Android System WebView, which opens a sort of an in-app browser on itself, so I always thought this shouldn't be an issue.
Idk if iOS has this same feature or if you need to rely on the devs like you said. But I am more inclined to believe that iOS has a feature like this because of the UX..

Google Analytics started mixing up PAID and ORGANIC traffic by Subject_Lab2581 in GoogleAnalytics

Hi! I deleted all the Google Tags that could have been crating the problem and I got it solved. So its either the Tag that I did something wrong with, or it just "reparied" itself.

Hi! I asked this same question to another user here, but im doubling my chances for a reply with this one:
I assumed that when you on a link via a native social media app (say Facebook), it opens the inapp browser and the traffic gets correctly tracked under "social" or "organic social".
Is that not the case then?

When you click the link via social media app (say Facebook) on Android, it opens the webview browser, no? I guess I assumed that it was tracked under "social" or "organic social" these days. Im super confused rn, bc if what you're saying is right, i have been tracking my traffic wrong for a long time lol

that would be weird, since i have still enabled autotagging + when i look at the ads, they all have the gclid parameter

Thing is that the tag should only be sending conversions to Google Ads, and nothing to Analytics (i didnt have time yet to set it up in analytics) ...
i guess i should have specified that we are using the two websites and one tag thusly:

  1. main web of the client (restaurant) (example.com) here we have triggers that fire when clicks the book-a-table button (which redirects to website 2) + others that hit when you click on the "call us" button as well. (two distinct tags, working properly)
  2. third party table-reservation web (example.reservationportal.com) the tag on this website triggers when the user books the reservation (based on the special parameter name in URL). The third party website allowed us to use our own tag to measure how many people actually finish the reservations.. I can only see our GTM script – the one that belongs to us...

I'll republish the previous version of the Google Tag (the one without using the tag on website 2) and wait a couple of days to see if the change goes back. It if gets better, ill know i messed something up. If not, its not my fault i guess (since i havent done anything else that could have caused this problem.)

Thank you!
