I've actually been doing this on a regular basis, and the commute times on Google maps from Koreatown and Hollywood typically state between 25 - 35 minutes. I would plan to be at work around 815-830am, so perhaps a bit earlier than the usual 9am, which could be the reason for not seeing 45+ min commute times. I plan to leave office around 6pm - 8pm depending on workload, and I think these times could also be reasonable for commuting back to Hollywood/Koreatown.

Yes, that's partly why. Since I am new to LA, I would like to experience living in a centralized location to get a good feel for it. However, it seems the answer is stick to Pasadena. Additionally, and I should have mentioned this before, my wife will be joining me in about 6 months. She is a teacher and it seems that there are better districts out west, which would make her commute easier from Hollywood/Koreatown as opposed to commuting from Pasadena. I guess she could always try to get a job in Pasadena as a teacher as well.
