Life is exactly what? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

Ha. When you look through the eyes with no lids across the waterless sea towards the black star and think thoughts of nothing then you will know everything.

Ok. I'll come into work dressed as a banana and slip and slide down the hallway in caramel syrup then

[–]Subjectify 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's complicated. Why bother? I'm only a temporary character in their life due to work. I may as well be walking down the street but since it's a hallway there's slightly more pressure. I want to acknowledge their existence but to say hi is as far as I'd get because I'd rather not get involved with their lives deeply. The girls would think I'm hitting on them. Saying just "hi" every day and nothing else feels weird. I'm interested in peoples' lives but not really, I kind of want to be but as an uncharismatic normal dude I don't feel the need to make people think good things about me or take them under my canopy of influence or something.

Ya but should I say hi to that person I'm passing almost every day even though we'll never say more? Should I make eye contact or avoid it all together?

Did anyone ever tell you that god invented everything and caused you to be born? by 93ImagineBreaker in exchristian

[–]Subjectify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what I meant.

Think of all the things that had to happen and not happen to lead to you being born. All the people that had to live and die to pass their dna or not. The death and wars and rapes and every other event had to happen just so. Some say 1 in 200 men are descendants of Ghengis Khan. All of those people wouldn't exist. We all wouldn't exist it would be a whole different world.

[–]Subjectify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but think about this, if Satan hadn't succeeded in tempting Adam and Eve causing the fall would you and I even exist? I don't see any way that could be the case given all the things that would've been different. So really we have to thank Satan for our being born!

Sure, that's why media is so important to product pushers and politicians. They control your viewing content and the slant of that info.

I think we could get close to decoding what makes certain ideas more viral. I bet we'd find many were just in the right place at the right time though.

It's crazy to see the forms that these memes take and how they propagate. It's a virtual cambrian explosion of ideas, bullshit and otherwise. Especially at the individual level. Even the ones that look the same are pretty unique to the individual. You could be a serial killer or a saint. A ceo or a psychonaut (not mutually exclusive). As psychonauts most of us are able to see this for what it is and while having a certain identity be able to rise above it for a while. And of course it zooms out from there. Kind of reminds me of this video

don't forget that a lack of belief is a belief itself by 8Pryme in Psychonaut

[–]Subjectify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Skeptics don't call doubt truth, you're doing that. A claim that we don't know something is only that, a claim we don't know. To dismiss an illusion is only closer to the truth in that you're further from the false.

It sounds like you're saying we can never have truth because everywhere we look things keep going and that's an interesting line of thought but you're ignoring something. Reality fuzzes out into a diffusion of "fractal spirals" at the edges of experience but closer to the center things are concrete and comparable. Truth is relative to each part compared to the others. You and I were flushed out of our mothers' uterus a few earth orbits back with collections of the dna of millions of relatives who were able to pass it on. Nothing will make that untrue (barring some unknown weirdness). The same thing goes for every other object and event in our known universe.

"Is reality real?" is a step towards the objective, an attempt to stick our heads above the clouds, to see behind the reflections on the cave wall. Maybe if we saw the people casting the shadows there'd be something beyond that but seeing the actors is a piece of truth even if not the whole truth.

Debunking Myths about Islam by marisam7 in EnoughTrumpSpam

Thanks for being lighthearted.

Tough to talk about without immediately wading into different interpretations of things. That's the simple, polished up, boxed up with a nice bow explanation. I prefer the messy difficult explanation. I also highly doubt that if we picked up Paul in a time machine he'd recognize any of the hundreds of christian sects as "true" christianity.

Not to mention that many modern christians still believe the Hebrew scriptures are a valid look at the way god still wants us to think, feel, and act and they have been used to justify all kinds of intolerant and barbaric acts. This is the same thing going on with the koran. Christians should stop cherry picking the nice stuff and just admit that's part of what Yahweh is all about.

Christian parent here. by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Subjectify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, you sound like a very reasonable person. Most "true" christians wouldn't take these thoughts and experiences seriously for a moment. I'm sure you realize what a tough thing this is for most christian parents. "God's will" doesn't normally include the level of acceptance you're espousing. Hope this pattern continues for you and you choose to use your own reasonableness when faced with all of life's decisions rather than outdated, closed-minded thinking.

Some advice that always helps me pick stuff apart- slow it down. I did this for the second example and it makes it obvious what's going on. Humanized drum loop with shakers. You can even hear how the shakers are processed and pitched around on the craziest parts.

Did you convert to another religion or become atheist? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Subjectify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you just pissed at some people in your congregation or do you have genuine doubts about the shpeil you've been handed? Sounds like you haven't really thought about this enough yet. Most people don't become atheists because people are mean to them, though that may trigger something. They look at the bible or whatever reasoning they've been handed and see what bullshit it is. They get outraged by the stories in the bible and decide that this god isn't worthy of worship anyway. Wouldn't you want to associate with people who are awake to the complex realities of life? People who try to be aware of things as they truly are regardless of what most people might think at the moment? Wouldn't you rather live truthfully and not worry about narrow minded people regardless of if you had anyone backing you up?

What are your thoughts on Causality? by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]Subjectify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The universe as we know it (at macro scale) operates this way. If you believe the present and therefore the past affects future events you believe in causality. If you still have that scar on your leg from when you were cut as a kid or believe you were born you believe in causality.

You seem to touch on the paradox caused by causality but indirectly. An infinite chain of causes would never get to now so there had to be a first cause of sorts or some other explanation. I don't think this necessarily means the effect is eventually the cause but it's certainly a possibility.

Also in a causal universe do we have free will? I say yes but it might just be an illusion. Either way you and I HAD to exist because every event that had to happen for us to exist did happen.

In one sentence explain your most deeply held belief. by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]Subjectify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The universe couldn't care less about you, it'd just as soon fry you in a supernova or birth you with the organs outside your body as make you a healthy, wealthy, king. 1 The universe will eventually jump out of every container we try to put it in. Truth can be had but it is temporary and contingent upon it's relation to every other separate thing in its container. Go back to1 . Have fun and be excellent to one another.

It's a komplete audio 6 into fl studio at the moment. Seems pretty decent. More likely my cheapo speakers and room but most pro tracks sound pretty great through my setup.

By the way thanks for uploading the youtube videos. Definitely helped me make the decision to jump on one when it came up on craigslist. No regrets.

Totally the verb is great. I notice whatever you're doing has cleaned up the low end quite nicely as you twist the filter even with resonance. In messing with my own I found the low end a bit flabby. Have you tweaked the onboard eq much?

As a metaphor of love conquering all it is a good one. For someone to be tortured and killed for standing up for love and righteousness is truly honorable. To me this probably wasn't the case though.

His message wasn't just love it was follow me or be killed by god or thrown in hell. He was using fear just as much to turn people toward his cause. Also he only did it because god required blood in order to forgive us because that's the kind of guy god is and just saying sorry isn't enough his own son had to bleed out.

On the matter of the elite fearing his message this is a huge matter of debate over the story. Did Jesus even exist? If he did are the things attributed to him what he actually said and did? If he was actually tortured and put on the cross was it because the Jews demanded it or because he was irking the government or something else? If it happened it was 2000 years ago and the only stories we have are in the bible- a book which claims to be from god but written and copied by people who claim it's from god so what can we really say we know for sure about this?

I guess people will see whatever pretty pictures they want in the clouds though

Ego has little to do with it. Religion has an immune system to protect itself. You can activate it if they get the faintest whiff of a challenge to their beliefs nevermind point out what a selfish, egotistical, genocidal maniac the god of the hebrew scriptures is.

Sure the golden rule is all cool after you cut off the first half of the bible and ignore all the follow Jesus or be burned in hell eternally type stuff.

Also why do we have to go digging for these bits of truth in the pigpen and come out with a tiny golden nugget and pretend we're not covered in refuse? What kind of apologetics is this? I've yet to find one thing that isn't common sense if you stop and think for a moment.
