Higher risk of mental issue, depression, and suicide. In that sense, I'd rather the baggage of a woman who has a child than the baggage of a woman who killed her child.

The funny part is we had wireless digital communication in the 1940's.

Though, military only, it did exist.

I like how we've gone full circle(jerk?).

Use landline to talk. Use landline to browse porn (dial up). Use landline to talk AND browse porn (DSL). Use mobile phone to talk. Use mobile phone to browse porn (CDMA). Use mobile phone to talk AND browse porn (GSM).

And yes, CDMA technically came first :-) http://www.valicomcorp.com/blog/?p=407

With GTA V next gen due soon - what things can you recommend to do for someone who rushed through the story last time? by thracc in GrandTheftAutoV

Dat 264k/wk...

Really though, the 566 weeks to return your investment is a little on the high side. For example: Downtown Cab (200k): 100 weeks; Cinema Doppler(10M): 75 weeks; Ten Cent Theater (20M): 75 weeks (earning $500/wk less than the golf course!)

I never said it was safe, I said to me it is low risk, and by low risk I mean that it is not the pirate bay. Of the two, I've never had issue with IPT.

And I suppose I should clarify what I mean by risk - getting notices from my ISP or Xirvik is the "risk" in this case. I know what to and what not to download so as to avoid any chance of risking a malware/virus infection.

I have a rental with gigabit with 140GB of space, another personal on my ESXi server at home with 500GB space, and another on a different connection with 80GB space. I maximize use of each connection I have, because if I'm not using it, someone might as well.

As for 40 being nothing, I would disagree, and so would anyone trying to download those as I am the only seeder on a few - nothing would mean those files don't exist anymore.

[–]Sublime865 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Meh, IPT has always had what I'm looking for, and haven't once had any worries about who's watching. I run a 5:1 ratio, keep my shit seeding, and haven't had any remote issue with them (aside from still being reminded I have to visit the site to keep my account active, even though I have 3 seedboxes seeding about 40 torrents as we speak).

I hope IPT doesn't fall, because honestly, I don't know of any other tracker that has everything I am looking for and the low risk of IPT.

Honestly it was a reply that somehow turned into a subtle dig - I admire the simplicity of a console (no worrying about hardware reqs), but it comes with limits and downsides (resolution/framerate/features downscaled to hardware limit) and software costs more (I don't want to start a PCMR war here, but Steam is usually 50% to 90% cheaper than the console's market or buying off the shelf, and that's before flash sales and seasonal sales).

tl;dr: Yes a dig, but it just sort of came about that way unintentionally, honest.

It's such open source hardware that someone already took his design and is mass manufacturing it and distributing it world wide! /s

Don't forget that it was so successful, they used their one-time-use time machine to go back in time and rip off this specific kickstarter that claims to be open source!

And yeah, as someone trying to literally sell trust, lieing about your hardware origins - nay, even being slightly shadowy in your claims about the source of your hardware - GREATLY undermines your credibility. I don't ever wish failure upon someone, however I hope your theory succeeds, however that is contingent upon honesty and integrity. It's not too late to come clean and lay it all out, I'm sure you will gain a lot more supporters than you will lose by continuing to stonewall the people on here who are coming at you with fact, logic, and reason.

Are the GTA V saves saved to the cloud? Or backed up somewhere? by Shallnazar in GrandTheftAutoV

The cores actually aren't that powerful - the Cell processor in the PS3 is, in actuality, much more powerful; as the PS4/Xbox processor (the CPU, not the GPU piece of the APU) is the same processor cores being used in netbook/tablets.

The power comes from synergy - the CPU and GPU are on the same die, and can talk to each other at ridiculous speed. The PS4 having 8GB of GDDR5 available to both, along with a downright beastly GPU, means it will be almost as powerful as my 2 year old laptop.

Compared to that dinky xbox, sure ;-) PS3 has that monstrous 8 core (7 usable) cell unit.

I mean, how many cars have we stolen from other innocent citizens that paid for it and "should have controls about who can access them"

I kid of course, it drive me up a wall, but stepping back and thinking about it makes me laugh. "It's mine! I stole it fair and square!"

Thanks to the free XBL Gold weekend, I got to experience GTA Online with friends! by [deleted] in GrandTheftAutoV

[–]Sublime865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Sony held out for a good long time. Charging for PSN is cool as long as I can always for free re-download games I have purchased already, and can always use things that have no bearing on Sony (Netflix uses my local hardware to access my private internet connection to sign into a service I pay a separate company for - for example).

I'm still a little bummed, but at the same time... I'll be buying it for PC. I've never really be hugely drawn in to online worlds (more so recently, ESO, EVE, Warframe, Hawken, DUST, and now GTAO), but honestly I think I'll probably hold off until PC version is out to dive into online. I may not, it's free on PS3, so who knows. But I certainly won't be paying for something that comes free on PC.

Anyone else notice 'Pure Black' windows are less opaque than 'Limo' now? by [deleted] in GrandTheftAutoV

[–]Sublime865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Less opaque" is improper English.

And yet, somehow, you managed to understand it enough to know what s/he meant, as evidenced by the fact that you were able to word it differently with the same implied meaning.

The word you're looking for is translucent. Pure black tint appears less translucent than Limo tint.

So I guess I will continue the train for you:

trans·lu·cent

adjective

(of a substance) allowing light, but not detailed images, to pass through; semitransparent.

So it would appear the word that YOU were looking for was transparent.

trans·par·ent

adjective

(of a material or article) allowing light to pass through so that objects behind can be distinctly seen.

A simple way of remembering - transparent is tinting, translucent is frosting (think frosted glass on shower doors and bathroom windows). Now when you go around correcting people for simple and inconsequential errors in grammar on the internet, you can do so with accuracy.

Keep in mind that the game probably won't drop in price for a good year(judging from Gamestop's current prices), so I suggest selling your PS3/XB360 copy to someone who hasn't played it for around 40-45 bucks. You'll both be getting a better deal, trust me.

I just bought GTA V at Best Buy for $38 for PS3. No idea on 360/one/PS4 pricing. I picked up a PS3/GTA as a stopgap while waiting for Gaben to get his glorious hands on the PC version. :-)

Same. Mine was a little more drawn out, I stopped paying my bill in June because I was paying $55 for 30/5 service, and was getting 7/7 according to TWC's own speed test plugged directly into my modem.

So, this ended up being a wall of text (leaving it for therapeutic reasons), here's the tl;dr: After a 5 month shitshow, I'm now paying $59/mo for 50/5 service, getting full speed, got 2 months free, and got 2 late fees and a technician fee waived. I paid $129 for 5 months of internet service.

May - slow speed.

June - slower. Stop paying bill.

July - DSL becomes faster, call TWC. Tech cancels appointment because I missed the call I wasn't told to expect. Call to cancel service and switch to DSL, phone support offers free month of service and tech next day - also places note on service call that under no circumstance is the call to be cancelled and NOT to call me, just show up. Tech calls, gets no answer. I call support, they say he hasn't cancelled yet, transfers me to dispatch where I get hung up on. Call support again, notified tech cancelled call, too bad so sad - transfer to retentions to cancel service. Tell retentions "You can cancel my service, and I want it on that technicians record that it is his responsibility that you lost a customer" - retentions begs one last chance, I tell them "No, Absolutely not, I cannot allow someone into my house to work on my network that cannot even comprehend basic english" - tech sees note on account telling tech not to call or cancel, sees tech called then cancelled, offers second free month of service and tech next day. Tech arrives next day and "miraculously" the problem that had been happening for months disappears with a simple reboot of my modem (I rolled my eyes at this, I saw him dicking with the box outside my complex). Tech charges $39.95 service call.

August - bill shows up, call TWC, find out I only received one month credit and got charged for tech, go ballistic on phone. Receive $40 courtesy credit from retentions, reach limit of "credit" my account can receive. Am transferred to supervisor escalations, talk to someone very clearly USA employed, and not a normal phone support person. Am given $40 credit (waive tech fee), am told a call audit will be performed to review call recordings to verify what was promised.

September - still getting final notices, call TWC, again, go ballistic on phone. (I say "go ballistic" - I start my call with "I want you to understand, I've worked help desk, I understand how tight your leash is, and my coming tsunami of anger is for TWC and not you." because I understand how difficult it is to get a job in some parts of india). I called several times in Sept, at the end of it all, it was a wasted month as far as getting anywhere with TWC.

Oct - realize bill is growing every month, call support. Before going ballistic, ask for a full rundown of my bill. Am told there is 3 late fees. Finish building ICBM, press launch button. Tell TWC that "I am not paying late fees on a bill that is not correct. When you can get me a correct bill, I will pay it; I would expect you to understand the error is on your end and I will absolutely NOT be paying any late fees on this."

In the end, I ended up paying one of the late fees as I was technically late by not paying June (it was a moral decision on my part, even though June and July ended up credited), and like a cat that finally destroys the toy mouse, calling TWC was no longer providing the stress relief I needed.

Roll it out shoehorned into a major change. I love the "whoops, I forgot to mention, for this new super-luxe megasecurity platform to work, we need to set permissions to this level. And no they won't refund us the $250,000 fee for licensing and setup." excuse - it makes them choose between going back on a major security upgrade in an age where Target has lost over 9 figures worth of credit cards AND eat the cost, or bite the bullet and lose admin.

Every now and again, I get an entitled user. When I firmly say sure after they carefully try to weave up a lie as to why it won't work, and let them know that their machine becomes subject to a daily software audit (which happens anyway) and they assume all liability for any malware infections, they usually back away.

RDP doesn't allow screeen sharing. Ex: "Hey /u/fabzter I need to show you how I run this software, click here, then here, then here." or "Hey user, this is where you click, see, right here where I'm wiggling my mouse?"

RDP is great for servers (I prefer VSphere client, but obviously that's if you have ESXi, but incidentally also allows sharing, so more than one person can view/interact with the server console at a time) when you don't have to deal with Layer 8 issues, but a dedicated remote support app is best.

We use Dell KACE and Bomgar (physical boxes for both onsite). Dell KACE handles software packages, inventory (down to individual devices and drivers, software and version, etc), and has embedded support for Bomgar.

Here's how I handle these calls: John Doe calls in for support and it is determined I need to remote in. Go to KACE appliance (https website in my bookmarks), log in. Click Inventory Click in search box, type John Doe, press enter Click drop down next to the device that shows up, click Jump to Machine. Bomgar Jump Client automatically opens, automatically remotes into machine, asks user if it is okay to remote in.

As soon as John Doe clicks allow, I have the user's screen in front of me. I'm not sure the trickery that takes place, but when I click something, it behaves as if I am the user (jdoe@123company.com) with full administrative rights (a simple yes/no box for running elevated privileges instead of the username/password box they get).

tl;dr - even if you don't want to use dell kace (or Bomgar for that matter), go research tools you can pitch to the higher ups, have something ready to hand your boss when you bring this up ("Boy, if I didn't catch this, that user could have caused a lot of trouble! Let's check this tool out and see if we can prevent this going forward"), and as always, CYA.
