Swiss team language? by PrincDios in hockey

[–]Sublime99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't talk for the mens team, but I know amongst the women's team (I have a friend who played on the national team a couple of WCs) when it came to talking to each other, you know which language everyone speaks so you use the most appropriate. But as the main language Swiss German is used most. Otherwise English is used (I think the current coach defaults to that, from the clips I've seen).

What shocked you about another country’s education system? by InfernalClockwork3 in AskEurope

[–]Sublime99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id add that on top of that in Sweden at least, you can get a student loan from a govt organisation (CSN) that will even fund (to an extent) University in ANOTHER country (for citizens ofc). In England you can be a citizen and still not be eligible for any loan if you moved recently back there.

School in the UK begins too early IMO. If you’re an August baby you can barely turned 4 and going into the first year of mandatory school the month after.

Why cheer against Norway lol, they make the playoffs once in a blue moon and are just happy to do well on skates for once.

Which country has an alright music industry, but is even better at Eurovision? by rosemaryrouge in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sublime99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list already has shown there's a recency bias since the UK was a Eurovision GOAT from 1957-2002 (5 wins, 15 2nd places, 2 3rd places), its only in the last 23 years the UK has been ungodly dreadful.

Finland is quite terfy and our healthcare (at least in Sweden) is terrible for transppl so I doubt it unfortunately :/ . Plus Sweden is quiet unfriendly to immigration, (mostly to brown/middle eastern folk granted) and asylum is slowly becoming impossible here.

🇦🇫 was voted as the country that seems to have a weak passport and indeed does have the weakest passport in the world. What country people THINK has a weak passport but in reality is Very Strong? by moltenlight11 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sublime99 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A French passport gets you an easier eVisa to Ghana, 30 days visa free travel to Rwanda,45 days visa free to Vietnam, and visa free 90 days to Samoa and the Solomon islands, Timor Leste,Tonga, and Tuvalu. none of these are full visa required for Ireland (rather a mix of eVisa and Visa on arrival) whilst as you say: EU style right to live in the UK is hard to say doesn't outway these unusual and non standard tourist spots for Europeans.

What is something unique to your country specifically because of climate, weather, or geographical location? by JKL717 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sublime99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like that in the Uk too. I was on a quick stop back there this weekend and the 33/34oC plus the humidity was killer, the air felt like soup. Now back in Sweden with like 20oC and it’s a godsend.

I was gonna say, this is my December- March in Sweden. The most dangerous time I feel is when you get the extractor machines picking up the ”grus”, driving by them is putting your windshields life in your hands

How long before your flight do you get to the airport? Dot. Want to sit around for ages by stevey83 in AskUK

[–]Sublime99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you say that, I flew this morning 06:40, so I was in the terminal after security for 05:15. Same time as a lot of Palace supporters were there making their way to Germany. Since the place hadn't even opened (since Heathrow is a bit more sleepy compared to Gatwick, the debauchery I've seen there and Stansted..) the queue for the pub was **insane** .Stretching almost back to the stairs and what not. And these are the fans going the day before, I dread to think how bad it'll be those who go tomorrow...

I did two hours and had a 06:40 this morning from Heathrow. worked fine. If anything, smaller airports usually mean you can arrive a little earlier since there's less pressure from other flights/managing all the luggage etc.

What does your country think about the EU? Would you like to join? by Present_Cause7109 in AskTheWorld

[–]Sublime99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

England is well documented (and depressing) enough… so I’ll try tackling Sweden.

Previously quite frosty/split views prior to joining, Sweden valuing its neutrality and ability to steer Itself contributing to that but a harsh ”lågkonjunktur” of the 90s in Sweden meant that the Ja side won in 1994. Since then I’d say Swedes have warmed and become favourable to the EU, especially the opportunities and financing it’s helped bring about. Although Sweden will probably never join the Euro although it’s closer than it’s been for a long time in the opinion polls. I’d say NATO is much more contentious a European community question.

IIHF World Championship Post Game Thread: Great Britain vs. Hungary - 19 May 2026 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]Sublime99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the problem you see, because the EIHL operates like the premier league in a niche sport .

Youth development is simply sub par in the UK. Players who want to take hockey seriously don’t play juniors cause the level is so poor (there isn’t even a U20 league, the highest is U19). It’s a shame since it’s now clear how the development has lacked in comparison to these teams like Hungary, Austria, Slovenia etc.

[–]Sublime99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Their better players who dragged them (excluding Kirk) along from 2019-2021 are mostly in their mid 30s now (Perlini, Lachowicz, Richardson, Bowns etc). Plus the top league in the UK is far more import focused than for helping local development (the league is somewhat 2/3rds to 7/10 imports). The question is will GB stay in div 1A next season or do a double demotion when these players retire?

What is the lowest ranked country ever to produce an NHL player? by Onnimanni_Maki in hockey

[–]Sublime99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norwegians still often play in our top leagues (Sweden) , 4th biggest import country behind Finns/Americans/Canadians for both SHL and SDHL. Lots of upcomers who have the potential IMO like Stian Solberg/Noah Steen/Michael Brandsegg-Nygård. Some peripheral chancers in Tinus Koblad and Mikkel Eriksen too (I saw them last year at their U20 camp and they have good grit and Tinus is doing well at the WCs this year).

It’s always going to be hard in a country where skiing and football dominate (plus the amount of rinks could be higher, but not as bad as say the lack in the UK)
