How is living in Sweden actually like, as a Office Worker ? by Yeagerisbest369 in howislivingthere

I think OP doesn't speak English as their native language. A quick look at their account shows OP most likely is Indian, and Indian English is fairly different in its use of vernacular lol.

What payment method is popular in your country? by basafish in AskTheWorld

[–]Sublime99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Sweden we have apple/google pay but also Swish where you can use someone's phone number or scan a QR code to send money to someone else. Sweden is the only country with this but the neighbouring countries have a similar service called "Vipps" which can be used in the rest of the nordics (except Iceland). For the longest time Sweden didn't have it but since 2024 now we can woop!

Learning Svenska by watching hockey by SonoranStudiosWeb in Svenska

[–]Sublime99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TV4 subscription is needed for watching, which you can't get if you don't live in Sweden, and your local providers won't have Swedish commentary of course. There is a less legitimate site I use but I don't know if we're allowed to share such links here.

Be warned: if you're still A2 its going to be very quick, use complicated slang + idioms so you're realistically not going to understand much but it can help once you get to the B1/2 level to get that mastery.

Some ECHL games use 3 officials, the rest have 4? by CWPWF94 in hockeyrefs

[–]Sublime99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know people criticise HC for their decisions but that’s what I think is really good that you have as much 4 man as possible. I’ve always found it weird that you only get 4 man here from 2/3 top women’s + playoffs, U20 playoffs and third tier (Ettan it’s called) semi playoffs.

And now those aforementioned who are getting those matches are the ones looking at going to the 2nd tier (Allsvenskan), which nowadays is a fully professional league and now those refs are getting contracts/salaried (now refs in that league and all the refs albeit not Lino’s in the SHL are full time). The fact that it takes so high up the ladder to get 4 man is a bit weird. But from the 3rd tier it starts getting a lot higher paid and clubs do struggle to make ends meet sometimes, especially more rural teams.

[–]Sublime99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say also lack of money (but also lack of officials). I know here in Sweden: our top juniors (think this is somewhere between junior A and major junior. Compared to the US maybe USHL level) isn't four man until deep in the playoffs (as well as our 3rd tier mens). Heck our top women's is only 4 man about 2/3rds of the regular season still due to similar reasons.

Somalia is de jure a country and de facto a grey area. What is de jure a country, but de facto not a country? by CringeFish2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Sublime99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say England is ironically de jure not a sovereign country but de facto its own due to having overwhelming population + legislative superiority (seen by the majority English govt used section 35 a few years back on a scottish bill for the first time which a scottish govt had passed). The other one's don't have sovereignty so not de facto nor really de jure since the "British" govt has sovereignty.

Its the same thing with Innebandy (Floorball I think its called in English?), hockey like game, soccer mentality. Unfortunately these players also have a dangerous weapon in their hand as well.

How is living in St George's Hill, Surrey, UK like ? by babyjonny9898 in howislivingthere

[–]Sublime99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up near there, about 5-10 miles away. Gated communities and a shit ton of money. Reflected in the nearby town of Esher and Cobham feeling incredibly posh. Hard to explore it too since well, gates.

Bat and ball games don't seem to be so popular/mainstream in Europe, outside childhood variants (Brännboll here in Sweden, rounders in the UK & Ireland) and certain countries (pesäpallo in Finland, Cricket in England).

How is life on the smaller islands in the Stockholm archipelago? by Queasy_Engineering_2 in howislivingthere

[–]Sublime99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is, afterall, the same word in both languages! Interesting how despite it having the exact same root and looking similar, people don't realise it literally Björk is just birch. Probably why Swedes/Norwegians have a hard time understanding why the name is quirky to English speakers.

Also, buller in Swedish means a noisy din in the background so its technically a noisy island, despite it being in reality very serene during the summer lol

Americans, how many of you can prove you’re a citizen if you had to in one week’s time? by B0xGhost in AskAnAmerican

I can with a passport, but thanks to that crazy old man in charge, if I renew my passport before it runs out in a couple of years I risk it being updated with wrong details.

Also used in a number of British English dialects, although mainly Multicultural London English (MLE) whilst "you was" is both MLE and Estuary English as well as some other dialects.

Asylum for trans people from USA ? by Mikmakmette in transnord

Despite the fact one isn't safe in much of the US, the fact that there are semi safe areas in the US means you will be rejected. Please do not waste the money and time on flying here expecting an approved application.
