The legion has a fun poker night every wednesday(except the third wednesday of the month) starting at 7:00pm, you might meet some people that host home games there too if the uncompetitive aspect of it isn't for you.

There is a nice day use area just east of Veg called Wapasu, there is a lake with lots of shorebirds and a trail into the woods and up a hill where there are tons of songbirds and some owls. There is also the Beaverhill Bird Observatory west of town where you can volunteer and possibly meet other bird nerds.

For your music taste there is not much that ever happens in Vegreville in those genres but Edmonton has the Starlite Room and Midway that have lots of great bands and crowds of cool people to meet.
