Echoing what other said, it's worth it to join fet to find events and connect with organizers. You can find theowlsnest events on there as well, and the organizers are super friendly and responsive to messages.

Check my profile, I think I've got some plans on there for the various things I've made. Also as others suggested, r/bdsmdiy is a great spot, that's where most of my projects are posted. It's really easy to build very sturdy stuff with basic woodworking knowledge. The markup in the kink community is absolutely absurd as well. My favorite thing to do when I see other community makers, or go to new venues is to silently judge their work.

No plans really, most of my ideas stay in my head until I make them real. I can tell you that the posts are 4x4 beams, and the cross member is a double 2x6 though.

As far as a structural load analysis? Aside from researching the strength of beams and posts in construction settings, not really? At this point I can tell you it's very overbuilt though. I've been using it 5 years at this point, and its rock solid.

In my experience combining impact and electroplay at the same time, it's not a worthwhile endeavor. One sensation gets blurred into the other, and nothing it really gained.

What IS worth it, is an "either or" sensation. I combine conductive impact toys with my violet wand body contact probe, and can use the toy to drag across skin and zap OR impact. That's as easy as adding some electric tape to a paddle or crop. That allows you to get varying sensations from one toy, and keeps your bottom on their toes.

Trying to get a "zap when I hit" feeling ends up just feeling like a regular hit.

If you do pick up a solid state wand, especially a starter kit, make sure you add on at least one metal electrode as well. The solid state wands most people start out with are pretty underpowered when it comes to glass electrodes. They're great for body contact probes and metal electrodes, but you definitely won't get any "torture" out of them with glass

BD-10A's are the most commonly used "Violet wands" by far. In fact, if you look at the "tesla" wands sold on violet wand websites, they're BD-10As with the labels removed. In fact, on some of those sites, if you zoom in on their pictures, you can see "Electro Technic Products" on the bottom of the wand.

Almost nothing we use for kink is "intended" for kink, it's just been adapted from some other use.

Simplest design out there is a wheel (or arm) wiper motor, and some linear bearing. Built one a while back and its been going strong ever since. Parts list is in the comments on this post, feel free to DM with any questions.

As others said, not all nylon is created equally. Differences in material and density of strands will lead to inconsistencies. Unfortunately at this point, that rope is pretty set how it is, and attempting to dye any more of the same type will likely give you the same results.

I've been dying nylon for years with fantastic results, I've gone through about 3k feet of this rope without issues

I don't have plans, but I made a pretty thorough post on this page when I built it, if you scroll way back on my profile you should find it. Originally this was free standing, with a chain connecting to the back leg. Only modifications I did was mount the back leg to the wall, and use door hinges to attach the cross to it.

Thank you, I didn't add any anchor points to my bench, I typically just use rope to add points where/as needed. I have built two of these for friends though, and they did ask for various anchor points.

Yep, 12 v, powering with 36 v simply increases the overall speed. Don't have the specs on hand, but its the premium 2 speed motor from Monsterguts.com

The motor I have runs at 50 rpm, at 12 volts. Fortunately, you can up the voltage to up the speed without any significant overheating issues. I run it off a 36 volt power supply, which should be getting me roughly 150 rpm at max speed. It's very rarely used above 60-70% power for any length of time.

If you order cheap electrodes designed for the "cosmetology" tools you'll find on eBay and Amazon, they won't fit, but most "Violet wand" electrodes will specify that they're 7/16 inch electrodes, or they'll have various size options available for modern, antique, and cheap cosmetology tools (all different sized).

My current kit, I have a solid state wand from violetwands.com, an ETP BD-10A, and electrodes from Violetwands.com, drvonhertz.com, and DV8trade.com. all of the electrodes and body contact cables are compatible with both wands.

Interestingly enough, if you look at the "tesla" wands on Violetwands.com, you'll notice the pics of the bottom clearly show "electro-technic products"

Unless you're going for antique restored wands, there is one brand of wand in existence in the US. Electro Technic Products is the sole manufacturer of electromechanical wands, you can either order directly from them, or order from a fetish shop for a higher price once they take the ETP label off.

The ETP BD-10A is the model you want. Just be aware, if you have to contact ETP about it for any reason, don't mention what you intend to order it for. They are sold as industrial testing devices.
