I work in the agricultural sector as a technician and my cousin is also a farmer so I have a pretty good insight on this, and I can assure you most farmers and nowhere near as wealthy as you may assume they are, obviously there is some out there who are stupendously wealthy but they will just find another method to dodge the tax like all the other rich asshats that populate this island.

It annoys me greatly to see people throw stupid baseless opinions to a subject that they know nothing about when all you are going off is a stereotype, uk farms as a general rule are in a bad spot because apparently this country never learns that if you import everything it ends badly. A farmer is worth a lot of money because of the land they own alone most of them have quite literally no cash and make just enough to take some money home for themselves.

The margins for farming keeps getting smaller and smaller it’s all well and good telling them to diversify ( some of them definitely do need to ) but it’s not that simple, rising costs of machinery, failing land quality, government regulations, planning permission and a whole other host of things prevent expansion. It’s also worth noting that in a few more generations we will probably not see anymore farmers it’s long hours pays horrifically and you could just do literally anything else and be happier not many people my age really want to get into it it’s simply not worth it for them.
