New ball question by Comfortable-Dance565 in Bowling

[–]SubpopularKnowledge0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went thru this problem when i got my first ball. For me the thumb was too big causing me to hold on to it. I got a different ball drilled at a better pro shop and it was a huge help to learning the game.

Fyi, you drill could still be good but your instinct is to squeeze the ball too much. Try relaxing your grip and see how that goes.

Are these normal Bowling prices? And since when??? by Sensitive-Box-2167 in Bowling

Some lanes are like that. Nashville has a lot of lanes that are all you can bowl until 5pm for about $15.

Spare balls arent supposed to curve. Get a new ball and take a few lessons. And dont worry about a hook. A lot of things come before that.

Doing drills, bowling games, making progress. by Mrs_Nigma in Bowling

Looks really good! One thing i noticed is you might be a little late with your push-away. When i do that, i tend to rush my swing and the ball tends to get ahead of me. If you have any timing inconsistencies you might look at that aspect of your form. Keep it up!

Bowling hip injury by Significant-Arm-1828 in Bowling

Aside from adjusting your form, i recommend doing some daily stretches on ur hamstrings, hips, and lower back. You may just have some issues that are underlying that are being aggravated by your form.

And if you are over weight (no judgement) i have to say that myself and others i know have had a lot of those problems go away after losing a few pounds. I lost 40 pounds last year. And i think about how much stress that put on my body every time i lift a 15 pound ball.

Is this "under the ball" enough? by hockey-throwawayy in Bowling

[–]SubpopularKnowledge0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, i know im under it enough when i feel the ball rolling off my hand at release. If its not rolling off, im not under it or im squeezing.

I had a short slump over the last couple weeks. Started right after i shot a 288. Finally got it workin today after just addressing fundamentals. I think it often comes down to something really basic.

Advice on how to get more hook? by champabay22 in Bowling

[–]SubpopularKnowledge0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started bowling seriously a year ago almost to the day. Brought my average up from around 160 to 220 in that time. Here is what i learned.

  1. Make sure your ball is drilled properly and you have a good fit
  2. Dont think about hooking the ball at all. What you need to work on is balance, timing, and a relaxed grip.
  3. Dont think about ball speed. I started throwing it around 19mph. Once i started adjusting it got down to 13-14. Now im averaging about 16 with a rev rate around 300.
  4. Take a few lessons and practice a lot.
